What should I check out:

Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom
XAM’D — Lost Memories
B Gata H Kei: Yamada’s First Time
Night Raid 1931
Dance in the Vampire Bund
Summer Wars
Fairy Tail

At the very least Summer Wars.
B Gata H Kei is a fun romcom, if you turn off your brain. And, Fairy Tail if you are in a shonen mood. No idea about the rest.

Fairy Tail is pretty good, but I stopped watching the anime in like the 60s.

Only other thing I've seen on there is Night Raid which bored the hell out of me.

Gundam Seed HD R ep 8

Surely everyone would want to be a coordinator. I really dislike Flay. The art doesnt really do Lacus justice. Athrun had a pretty gratuitous scene nice. Otherwise fun episode. Curious to see where the story goes with this setup.

Only issue I have is that they throw out terms without defining, like PLANTS.

I want to say none of the above, but I haven't seen Summer Wars.

Phantom is the only worthwhile thing on the list that I've seen, but only if you
don't watch the last 30 seconds of the show
(spoiler? non spoiler version: something happens at some point that could potentially ruin the show for you.)

They define them later, but yeah it's annoying how in medias res the story's terms are.

And Flay? My sister and I when we first watched this show 10 years ago (oh GOD HAS IT BEEN THAT LONG??) forgot her name by the end 'cause we simply called her the Psycho Bitch.

Episode counts are a pretty deciding factor for me too.
I havent started gintama yet because of it. I made it through CCS easily because it is so very veryyyyyy hnnnnnnnnnnnnng.

well
on the other hand, you could really enjoy the long series (and you would know fairly early) and watch it instead of a bunch of terrible 13 episode shows (a lot of which don't have good closure in the first place)
For me those long shows have been One Piece and Hajime no Ippo

Just a small warning, but Xam'd sees a huge fall in quality for the second half of the show. I'd still recommend it but just throwing that out there.

Yeah, it's pretty awesome, I know.

Too much awesome for the average human.

True, but I like to vary it up a bit. Plus I just acquired nearly all of Ranma 1/2 as well. I have a multiple series watching style. I would rather marathon several shorter shows and just watch chunks of something longer.

Tried and true.
I will marathon long shows with sufficient hnng content. Its not common though.

Hnnng is like an addiction for you
Long series hnnng will eventually wear thin, and you will be in need of a stronger fix.

before we know it, youll be in hnng rehab

No rehab needed. I have developed quite a tolerance.
You've said "hnnng" about fifteen times upon your recent return.
You must be the Moe King round these parts!

I've been holding back. Its flowing forth like a a moe tidal wave.

Bloody fantastic! XD I'm too busy laughing to write anything meaningful at the moment but I'm loving this show!

Is fairy tail at least as decent as bleach?

I can't seem to get past the 6th episode of Fairy Tail.

Watched Bleach through its very enjoyable first arc that kept me watching while it slowly creeped to hell and...stayed there.

So as far as first impressions go...

Then again, most would say 6 episodes isn't a fair judgment call, especially for a shonen.

Pretty much all long series have some level of hnng in them.

It's more consistent than Bleach, but Bleach has higher highs imo. FT is kind of a poor man's One Piece with some very annoying asspulls. It's pretty much the epitome of standard shounen that doesn't attempt to go beyond or below that.

I think I'd probably put Bleach higher solely for the fact the first few arcs and Soul Society are among the better ones in the genre while FT only has one really good arc.

True that they have elements of hnng but it takes ridiculous amounts of it, such as that contained in Full Moon O Sagashite and CCS.

Chihayafuru 22:
Interesting match. I think there was kind of some regression for Chihaya, but I can buy it based on the situation and her opponent. There were a ton of hilarious moments in this episode, probably more than any episode to date. It went against my expectations for the episode.

Not possible. Hnnnngh is an expression of pure joy and can last through a 12 episode series or a 50 episode one!

Just going by the respective anime for each series, Fairy Tail story arcs are roughly the same quality as Bleach filler arcs. It's pretty damned low on the shounen totem pole and you could do better with pretty much any series in the genre.

I would say yes. It starts off pretty slow but once it hits its first actual arc it starts getting pretty good. The arcs also don't last that long, they throw in fun episodes in between arcs and there are less episodes than Bleach yet more things get done in the anime.
They are also much less filler in Fairy Tail, with only one filler arc that lasts about 4 or 5 episodes.

Yikes, having watched all of both of them, I cannot agree with this at all.
Imo, Fairy Tail is pretty good if you like shonen stuff in general.

Damn, don't think I'd go that far. Bleach filler arcs are crap.

It's a generally fun series with the only major problem being arc climaxes. You could argue the scale isn't really on the level of other shounens, but I'm cool with that. It's just a straightforward magical adventure with fun characters.

I agree. No way that Fairy Tail is as "quality" as Bleach filler arcs. Baffled that anyone could compare it to the Bounts arc, I mean, I cant even type that without laughing. Thats like saying Jellal is as ineffective as a boss as Jin Kariya. Only thing that arc had going for it was the opening Ichirin no Hana, and the ending theme, Hanabi.

Fairy Tail leagues better than most Bleach filler. (Materialized Zanpaktou ought to be canon, its that good). The issue with fairy tail isnt the source material.

I agree with that, especially with the arc climaxes. I mean, most of the arcs start off pretty good and all the stuff that happens in the middle is entertaining, but man do the final fights of the arcs usually just suck.

Yeah this is probably why you can make a reasonable argument that Bleach has higher highs than Fairy Tail. The end of the arc should be the peak, but the way Fairy Tail arcs end feels a little cheap sometimes, so that peak is never quite what and when it should be.

All that said, I probably enjoy Fairy Tail more than Bleach now, even excluding fillers.

The premise has me sort of interested, but with the terrible duo of Chiaki Kon and Mari Okada at the helm I'd need to be sold really hard on it.

It's a fun show that sticks to the supernatural aspect of the story tied with a romance plot between the leads, but it's not fanservicy or filled with silly love triangles. It's a fun 12 episode ride.

Boy meets boy?
I liked this episode. More student council is always fun, and I liked the summer adventures. I liked Archdemon as well. Not enough Karasawa though.
