Power levels! And bullshit rules for added drama!

And don't forget lunch! Yummy!

I don't think i posted about it here but Derpa 13 is great. Absolutely amazing.

Derpa had all the magic elements that makes a trashy show a financial success. It must some kind of cruel twist of fate that this moeblob show, of all the moeblob shows out there, had to fall flat on its face sales-wise.

There may be espers, but there is no God.

Actually, I think Denpa sold about average. Certainly not like madoka or bakemono, but it wasn't a bomba.

How did Sano know and Wanko not? Wut. That doesn't...Also, that switch in color hue--from red to blue (above)--was meant for dramatic purposes I'm guessing, but it just hurt my eyes.

They play this same theme in every crucial moment, and while I liked it initially, hearing it every ep is nuts. Wanko and Sano have such broship.

What a troll face. Also, I can't believe they used the
'you came to this planet as a baby, that must be why you don't want to fuck it up.' shtick
Also, a flashback for even Robert? They did step the animation up for a few frames during that fight though, thank science; I was actually able to get into it a bit.

I thought it bombad.

I was lied to.
Quick spot check of first week sales:

Numbers, they mean nothing to me.

Context, I need CONTEXT.

How many fractales is this and is it enough to get a S2?

according to my terrible maths each volume of denpa sold on average 5.84 frt (1 frt = 883 units sold).

how this translates to the manabi line i have nfi.

It's past the Manabi line of breaking-even(for most shows), but you usually have to sell a little better than that to get a sequel.

Entirely consensual, I assure you.
Of course you would say that.

Okay... I guess 5 is a good number because it is greater than 4, which in turn is bigger than 3, 2 and 1.

So... BRING ON SEASON 2.

Okay, so, not guaranteed but not out of the question.

So long as there is hope I will believe.

considering the manabi line is supposedly 2899 units sold then one can calculate the manabi line to be worth approx 3.28 frt. given this combined with shafts notorious cost cutting i think it's safe to say it's sold enough for a s2!

Tasuke is home alone? What a life he has. Everyone in his family is overseas for some reason. The best thing about this arrangement? Tasuke's Dad sends him cool shit from China.
This includes a magical girlfriend apparently.
Still, I'm not sure if I should be glad for him when
she starts telling him about potential dangers he could get into where she will offer to come to his aid at his bequest. Now that sounds like danger level 9 stuff here. Look, she ruined the TV just now!

it would be the perfect use for all that money shaft will make from Nise.

Hey, there was a second season for Natsu no Arashi, which sold like, one frt's. Bereeve in shaft.
I want to bereeve.

(I like Tyrion better)
it would be the perfect use for all that money shaft will make from Nise.
Yeah there's that. And Kizu. SHAFT Aniplex is going to be rolling, and hopefully they'll throw some of that money onto Derpa S2.

The reused animation at the beginning of this episode was so filler. Before Tasuke's friends came over was terrible filler too.

So Tasuke
you almost died from entering your home, and your recourse is for her to tell you in advance next time? You're perhaps too understanding of her ways.
You're Dad is also officially best father of the decade. I didn't think it was possible to buy antique girlfriends. So one's a moon spirit and the other is a sun spirit? Well, at least I know your origins now. But you know it seems like instead of being a spirit that prevents misfortune, it's like you're creating misfortunes Shaorin (that's the joke I suppose).

The Law of Ueki: 26

Luke, is that you, bro? Jokes aside, Hanon's mechanical detachment and continued conceptualizing made for one entertaining ep. It'll be interesting to see if he remains fun.

Guilty Crown 16

Dickshu is bestshu. I know this is a YMMV thing, but I really like how he went from a dull yet sympathetic loser to an emo prick whose moments of badassery is completely overshadowed by his moments of douchebaggery. Definitely made him
getting punched in the face
rather satisfying. I'd honestly be totally fine if he became the main villain while
zombe Gai has to fight him.

Events like these really make the concept of Voids shine. Unfortunately, very few were revealed this episode despite the implications that they are used in even minor tasks thanks to Shu's tyranny. Oh well, maybe the next few episodes will fix that.

Also, what the fuck

Ruuan, learn to share with Shaorin. She's like your senpai in these circumstances.

So from Episode 1, Shaorin got banned from coming to school until she learns more about this era, but Tasuke never said anything about Ruuan being unable to so this episode is all about that. Can't say I'm very flattered about this. Frankly, it's because Tasuke's school is pretty boring since it's only been about these magical girls causing trouble there, and well... this food sales competition isn't anything exciting.

Black Rock Shooter - 02

I'm so glad I watched this hours after Guilty Crown and not in tandem with each other, otherwise it'd be the equivalent of commiting grade A torture to the point of seppuku, it's bad enough that I'm watching these as is.

The dialogue was lol, the explanations was lulz and well it was bad all round only 2 eps in and it's in contention for the guilty crown already.

So Geneijin is watching terrible harem shows (even by harem show standards - why is Hanaukyou Maid Tai La Verité not on this strange list) and hosanna is marathoning through Law of Ueki.

I hope the reveal of whatever contest this is for is worth it. Personally I'm hoping for cosmic marathoning through, I dunno, Weiss Kreuz or something.

I liked Weiss Kreuz.

The Law of Ueki: 27

These enemies are getting sillier and sillier, as are their powers. But with that said, this ep wasn't bad, as the last wasn't. I hope the trend keeps up. Hideyoshi seems like he could be cool, and his fighting style makes for an interesting fight. I'm seeing that the less powerful the powers are, the more interesting the fights are. It's been a pattern.

The Law of Ueki: 28

The 7th star sacred weapon is actually quite badass. Hideyoshi is pretty fun, and it seems as if candidates sacrificing themselves is a pretty common thing, lol.

The Law of Ueki: 29

This drama in this ep felt-incredibly ass-pulled, but it was still interesting. I'm surprised to see them let the traitor back in with such ease, but eh.

Toshiyuki Morikawa. OH YEAH. Too much truth be spewing. How does a loser like him have so much luck with women?
He has a pure heart. Perhaps too pure. Doesn't-even-know-what-a-skirt-chaser-is pure of heart.

2 festivals in 5 episodes - so quick. Just as quick as Izumo-kun can scoop fishes I bet.

Also, Ruuan, what the hell? Why are you helping Tasuke? Shouldn't you be like helping Tasuke lose?

Wow, Tasuke, you're an asshole. How can you reject Shaorin's OBENTO to have lunch with your friends? Have two sets of stomachs fool.

Wait, what the flying fuck. Shark fin curry sandwich? That is legendary.

What the hell did I just watch

I think I liked it. Inelegant in parts (especially with regards to infodumping), and filled to the brim with really disturbing weirdness, but I suppose that was kind of the point. Fuckin' cliffhangers though.

More reviews. (Was anyone waiting for a new harem show review from me? Well, you got your wish!)

Kill Me Baby 5 - Another funny episode. This show is getting a bit better, I think -- the last couple of episodes have been a decent improvement over some of the earlier ones. The show is of course as always incredibly stupid, but at least it's mostly a funny stupid now. Also, Agiri continues to be the funniest character. :lol

High School DxD 1-3 - This is somewhat different from the manga -- probably 75% of this episode isn't in the manga version, which starts at the ten minute mark of this episode, and the anime adds some content past that point too. The manga was stupidly amusing (I posted about it in the manga thread after reading the ten chapters released so far), and this is similar. I will continue watching this -- it's an amusing stupid harem comedy action fanservicey thing, and though quite dumb in some ways it's entertaining enough to watch. I like that the lead female, Rias, is definitely not your average harem lead (not that uncommon a character type, but that
strong and completely uncaring about being seen naked
type usually isn't the most prominent female in a show like this); though of course, the harem thing is mostly just about the setting (the lead guy, the other guy, and 3-4 girls) and supposition; they don't clearly like him yet. In fact, having his own harem is one of the MC's goals, though given the type of show this is I kind of expect at least some romance elements at some point. The show clearly focuses more on action and ecchi than romance, but there are bits of it, particularly with the new girl in ep. 3. Given what kind of character this guy is (so open about wanting a harem and being perverted...) you never know, but this is a harem show for a reason. I'm sure they'll like him eventually, and ep. 3's new girl does like him.

But yeah, it was nice to see the additional content at the beginning, versus the manga. The MC is a complete girl-crazed moron, but actually seeing more of his idiocy makes the events of the midpoint of the episode more amusing, I think. :) I assume that the original LN is more like this and has this detail, or was it added for the anime? I really know nothing about the LN version, as usual for LNs. Episodes 2 and 3 are more like the manga version, with only occasional changes. Oh, one other minor change early on is that Rias has different underwear on in ep. 1 of the anime versus that same scene in the manga. In the anime she puts on a black lace bra and panties, but in the anime it's white lace panties and no bra is ever seen (indeed, through ten chapters there's still no sign of if she has one on or not in the manga I think, though Koneko's is seen (in that scene where her clothes get torn in the fight, just like in the anime). This isn't exactly important, but it is a sign of how the anime has upped the fanservice versus the manga version -- and it definitely has. I don't know if the extra fanservice was needed, it wasn't, but they obviously think it'll get more attention this way or something. Given the audience this is for, they're probably right, I assume.

Anyway, a bit more seriously, something I definitely noticed while watching this was that there are some unanswered questions about the basic concept. The main cast are of course all devils, but either these aren't very evil devils, or the show excises most of the bad stuff. They do go around doing things that humans want them to do, but so far what they get in return for that has not been clearly explained -- are these people signing over their souls to the demons in return for doing these silly tasks for them or something? It hasn't said. Basically the series goes out of its way to minimize the evilness of the characters, despite what they are, presumably to make them more appealing protagonists I assume. I don't really mind, and probably prefer it to the alternative, but it definitely raises questions that the anime, and manga through ch. 10, don't answer, so far at least. I guess the most obvious answer is that they, and the MC in particular, just aren't that evil? But as I said, it doesn't explain everything, at least not yet.

That's not to say that the main group hasn't done anything bad at all --
even if she was evil, torturing that runaway demon wasn't exactly nice, for instance
, and getting people to sign contracts with demons can't be good for them in the long run -- but yeah, it's not exactly too serious about it. Of course, that's one of the good things about the show -- the humor's amusing and helps keep the tone light. The psycho killer villain guy in ep. 3 was definitely amusing, for instance.

On that note, there's another thing helping to make the main group look not as bad, too -- they're not fighting good guys, angels, or the like, but instead their enemies are dark angels, outcasts from the heavens. Looking up a bit about the franchise, it seems to mostly focus on this dark angels vs. demons thing, as opposed to being much about the third faction, the gods... it's kind of odd to have the fallen angels and demons be enemies -- of course, in Christian philosophy they are the same faction -- but this clearly isn't Christian despite the trappings, it's its own made up thing, so they can do whatever they want, and do. It's kind of odd, but eh. whatever. And these fallen angels they're fighting are clearly more evil than our main demon group.

Overall, despite a few minor issues this series is quite fanservice-heavy and silly, and is entertaining enough to watch.

Thermae Romae 5 - This time, he goes to a hot spring town and looks around in the shops and shows off his skill at archery. Good stuff... :) Every episode of this series is great. I know it's what I keep saying, but I'm hoping for a second season of this... though the upcoming live action movie will hopefully be good too. :)

The degree to which the series hypes up bathing culture is a bit silly, perhaps, but eh, why not... though his reactions to some of the things are a bit overdone, other times it makes sense because, I mean, he's from a long time ago, we have many things now people from then could never have dreamed of, as he notices in multiple episodes.

Ouch I know your pain man, my gpu died back in December.
This computer is now almost five years old, but still can run anything at decent settings, so I didn't want to have to replace it yet... but it has had some problems -- the power supply died just over a year ago, for instance, which was a complete pain to diagnose and fix. It's still go some clearly Not Right things like sometimes resetting when I plug/unplug speakers from the sound card, too (though less often than before I got the new power supply, maybe... or maybe it's that I try to not touch the back anymore while it's on?).

But yeah, so while using my computer last week sometime I had a hard crash where some graphical corruption appear on the screen -- looked like blue tilde characters covered everything, or something like that. A few days later that happened again, and gain I turned it off.

However, the next time that corruption was on the screen from the time I turned on the power, and then shortly after that it stopped working at all. No picture, the screen simply stayed black and neither monitor ever registered that I'd turned it on. Yeah, that is not good. I was hoping that it was a fix able problem, and partially took apart the graphics card to get the dust out (and got dust out of the case too)... but yeah, no luck so far. I did get it to boot up one more time, still with the graphical corruption, but it's not too usable like that, particuarly when sometimes it doesn't seem to start at all. I'm only on that computer now because I put an old Radeon X300SE card in as an interim; it's obviously useless for any games from the last five years, but it does work, and my computer starts and has run fine so far, so hopefully the problem is only the graphics card and not a bad motherboard too or something. That it's working now is a decently good sign. But yeah, if I have to buy a new video card... those things are expensive. I'd probably want to upgrade over my Geforce 8800GTS 320Mb, too, if I have to get a new one; not sure what price range I'm going to look at though, presuming that I do indeed need a new card as I seem to.

...If only you knew what came next. Given the severity of your stance, you'd probably rage quit and buy the said volume just to burn it.
What are you referring to, the manga or the anime? For the anime I don't know what happens in the last three episodes, no. As for the manga, I've only read through chapter 23 so far, but I might have heard some of what you may be referring to, I think. Up to this point at least it's consistently less sexist than the same parts of the anime are -- compare the first anime episode to the early part of the manga and Cecily is much more useless in the anime than she is in the manga, for instance. That doesn't mean it's not sexist though of course; it certainly still is. Cecily is still constantly having to be rescued by Luke, and rarely can back up her words with actions. It's just that they significantly upped her uselessness in the anime.

(Oh, and that backstory of Luke's in ep. 9 is pretty much the same in both versions, I believe.)

The courtoom scenes and the OST, all I found Mardock good for. Luckily, I found those two aspects pretty damn good.

Yeah, I was referring to the manga. The scene and subsequent result:
Cecily is taken out to a shack, beaten/sexually assaulted (and quite graphically at that), then decides, in turn that she need give up her womanhood for it is weakness incarnate--my paraphrasing of the sentitment. Of course, over even all of that shock-induced resolve, she finds that her love for Luke is too strong and decides to 'remain a woman for a bit longer.'
It's dumb, very dumb.
