Winter 2012 Anime Thread of Roundcats Up in This

This is probably my only real complaint about the series so far. Well, besides some obvious... things... but yeah the abuse of wide-angle shots is not very good.

Not that they're all bad. Like, the wide-angle framing for the entire Kaiki scene was in fact a really good idea.

Well there was like reason to do it like that for that sequence (although they overused it slightly even there), it clearly set up a power-dynamic between the two characters. The rest of the time it's just thoroughly pointless.

Dis goon b gud.

Yep, I really enjoyed the anime but I couldn't get very far in the manga. Which reminds me, Kurozuka came out at the same time, and was a similarly underrated series. The Kurozuka manga looks way more interesting than Ga Rei, though.

Don't know if I would call the Kurozuka manga good or anything but it's certainly more interesting than the Ga Rei manga.

That makes two of us.

BEST TICKET EVER.

Edit:
WORST TICKET EVER.

"You're one thousand years too early to be boasting about your tits."

Is it worth reading if I enjoyed the anime?

I think it is worth reading, though the tone is sorta different in the manga as there are more comedy situations inserted and you have a bit of an idiotic dude along Kagura as MCs.
The anime has a great start and is short and concise. The manga has a weaker start, gets better as it goes on but then overstays a little as it concludes the story, but it's still cool.
If you liked Yomi in the anime, go ahead and read the manga.

Edit: wait, you're not asking about Ga-rei manga, lol, missread it.

Araragi was too impulsive, that ticket was clearly to be used as a long-term investment.
Indeed, one day she might come to hate him of her own volition.

Then it's time TO CASH IN CHA CHING.

WTF!

I can't do this anymore, I need a break.

I know this was posted on the last page but whatever, thread moves too fast.

Fate/Zero S2 OP = Kalafina - To the beginning

Fate/Zero S2 ED = Haruna Luna untitled new song

BOTH tracks are composed by Kajiura, so she has basically taken over the entire show musically in S2. I'm going to miss the old OP and ED...

So people got a bit angry when I said One Piece anime was poorly done... so now I'm rewatching all them from eps 1!

Seems to be pretty decent so far, but so are most manga to anime early on, good pace.

But they weren't any good...

Fate/Zero deserves nothing the best.

Nise 5

Gotta cover all the bases when it comes to fetishes. Returned to normal levels of Bake/Nisemono creepiness compared to last week. The Kaiki scenes were great.

I thought this was a pretty interesting graphic.

Its total sales broken down per director:

GIG_9931.jpg

I won't list everything, but you guys can probably guess who's number 1.

Top 10:
Miyazaki Hayao (lol)
Anno Hideaki (Kare Kano)
Fukuda Mitsuo (GPX11)
Tomino Yoshiyuki (Gundam)
Whoever directed the new Eva movies
Mizushima Seiji (FMA, Gundam 00)
Ishihara Tatsuya (Haruhi)
Nishio Daisuke (DBZ)
Taniguchi Goro (Planetes)
Shinbo (Bakemono, everything SHAFT)

What ep did you leave off on before? You shouldn't feel obligated to watch them all if you don't want to because of what some people on the internet said.

I knew haruhi sold like hotcakes.

But DAMN.

That's a lot of cakes.

Nisemonigatari ep5
Dammit Araragi, should kept the ticket to cash in the future.

What kind of sister would let the brother do that?
What kind of brother would think of doing that and that?

Yeah, sorry, Ishihara Tatsuya was also the director of Air, Kanon, Clannad and Nichijou.

The first two guys I listed should have given away that it was not comprehensive.

It's becoming increasingly apparent to me that these long-ass drawn out arcs simply do not work for this show at all. It gives Shaft way too much leeway to dick around with stuff that is frankly wholly unnecessary not to mention it makes all the blatant cost-cutting seem that much more apparent, as has already been said. Believe it or not, Ararararagi being a creep does get old after a while.

Kaiki has been more than established as a proper antagonist already. It sucks that it's taken so long to finally get to this point but now that that's done I hope they have no choice but to start moving things forward.

I find it hilarious that there is only one director on that list whose entire sales record is from a single work. And he isn't even from the anime industry! Shows how non-mainstream anime is in the first place. :P

I guess this was obvious:

Also, more Engrish:

Maybe I think it should be easy to just type in a word into google translate and poop out the English equivalent, but maybe that's too much to ask.

As for the episode itself... again, they took the Star Trek trope of explaining what they were doing and drew it out for pretty much the whole episode. One of the duller starship battles I've seen anyway.

Maybe I think it should be easy to just type in a word into google translate and poop out the English equivalent, but maybe that's too much to ask.

But you're assuming they had a Japanese word in mind originally and simply translated it wrongly. The more likely explanation is that they wanted to use the specific English word for the on-screen which they think they're familiar with, but they got it wrong.

It's like how when a weeaboo decides to be awesome and use a Japanese word or phrase as a nick/tag/reply and gets it wrong. Said person did not translate something wrongly, but rather they simply wanted to use a specific Japanese word and gets it wrong.

Don't talk about Lord Nomura-sama that way you meanie.

I mean, he probably wants to be in it, though.

Right, but I mean, every browser has Google search by default. You'd think someone would have typed in "Dammy" at some point just to see if they got it right or not.

Laziness is the root of most incompetence. :)

Edit: On the other hand, go to www.google.co.jp and search for Dammy. There are actual results which make it seem correct! Except Wikipedia! Lol.

Zoku Sayonara Zetsubu Sensei 4

EXPLODING GIANT FINGER!

Suddenly, we get invading aliens, mechas of all kind, giant schoolgirl in a kimono, Mr.Storyteller and a hihikomori teasing an underage boy.

So animegaf

I recently befriended a classmate in my evening class. It turns out he is really into anime which is ironic since he isnt the other classmate wearing eureka seven tshirts. After class, he asked me with the usual " you watch anime? What have you watched?" questions. I told him i was currently watching Another. He mentions he is watching High School DxD. At the time, i didn't realize that it was the show yall posted gifs of strippers dancing. Suddenly, he goes into a 5 minute long speech about the show. I didn't even say anything, just remained silent and paid attention.

Spoilers for safety (Stuff mentioned might go beyond the anime)

He starts with a summary. Main character is a kid named Issei who dies and is reborned as a servant of a hot devil girl named Rias (had to checked wiki for that spelling lol).

Already my mind is thinking "...this is a harem show aint it?"

Issei's goal is to become a strong devil and create his own harem of female servants (Yep harem show).
He discovers that he has the power of the Red Dragon, which doubles his strength every 10 seconds and covers him in armor. A lot of girls start falling for him and he gets stronger and stronger.

His favorite moment is when Issei goes berserk and in order to calm him, a song called Oppai Dragon was played. The song later becomes a popular children's song (lolwhat?)

*blah blah blah*

He tells me that everything he said came from the light novels. The anime only covers the first 2 volumes of 11. He said about half of the novels have been translated and asked if I was interested in reading it. I just stared at him and gave a meek "maybe". He promised me to message the links to where I can start reading and reassures me that the novels are fun reads and better than the anime. He recommended to read the first two novels to see if im into it.

So what should I do? He just gave me the links and I'll be seeing him in person on friday. Should I read the first two volumes? Compromise with 1 volume and tell him I didn't have time to read the second? Dont read it at all? Just watch the anime?

He went through the trouble of sending me 6-7 links for me. I dont want to be a dick but if animegaf tells me this is absolutely nothing I want to do with, I will avoid reading/watching it.

I wouldn't mind giving yall impressions of the novels if you give the green light

Heres the link to the lyrics of the song i mentioned in the spoilers. Not going to lie, i was chuckling a bit as i facepalmed.

Cowboy Bebop Episodes 12-15

Episodes 12 and 13 were disappointing but the other 2 were highly entertaining. Faye does seem like she’s not worth the trouble though.

Ef – a tale of memories Episode 1

I don’t know what the fuck’s going on but I like it. English dub is pretty good plus I’m a sucker for anime girls with eye patches.

HxHr 18

I still feel kinda sorry for Ponzu, not only for this but what happens later on in the manga ;_;
Next episode's the final exam, it'll be interesting how they handle the fight between Gon and
Hanzo.

So animegaf...
I haven't seen High School DxD nor have I heard good things about it
other than dat ed.

Huh. Yeah. Maybe Japanese people spell it Dammy so often that Google just thinks that's the best result. Although, right in the article it's spelled correctly. lol

It's pulpy and dumb but it does enough right to be enjoyable, especially in comparison to other trashy shows. It gives me weird Golden Boy vibes, although I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't actively seek it out.

Dirty Pair 14

UHZOx.jpg

In the future, presidential debates will be presented in a tiny box on the middle of your TV screen, interrupting your soap opera kiss. They will be a mandatory overlay on top of all TV programming across all channels. The debates themselves won't even pretend to be about "issues" but will cut straight to the chase of name-calling and mud-slinging.

Truly Dirty Pair presents a frightening vision of a dystopian future from which our society should learn before it's too late.
