Yuki Yuna: Washio Sumi no Shou - Movie 1

It was alright. As the first part of three, it's was mostly boring setup, showing how the three become good friends and their first fights against Vertex. I go into this fully for the fact that this probably ends up being Right of Left levels of prequel despair, so I guess an intro movie like this is necessary.

Oh, I completely forgot this was out.

I feel like I'm the only one here that likes LWA TV. The script isn't always great, but it's good most of the time and still better than most TV anime. And the direction, character designs, and animation are all top notch stuff.
Nah, I'm still having fun with it too.
The only episode that was a complete miss for me so far was the resurrection one.

What do you mean by this?

He basically has a lot of the 90s character trademarks that the other characters in the show do, like really angular and sharp lines (particularly with the eye shape), pronounced cheekbones, and a big chin.

But combine that with Sai's fantasy/wuxia theming and particular brand of facial deformity comedy and it really screams NINETIES ANIME.

Kirakira Precure A La Mode 03

Once again blue is best.

Kemono Friends 05

Prairie dog is quite the eccentric and a little too forward while beaver over thinks things to a ridiculous degree. The model house iterations were a nice touch.

Heartcatch Precure 14

This was a really strong episode. It's quite obvious Nanami is putting on a strong face to hide her aching heart. Sasorina is despicable for taking advantage of her loss.

Pretty good/10. Even though the intro arc was a bit rough to get through, I really ended up enjoying it. Can finally see where all the praise comes from, and it ended decently as well.

Apparently LWA is so terrible that fans just can't wait to watch every episode weekly asap regardless of legality. Sounds legit.

I like it. I didn't really ever have any crazy expectations for it, nor did I put the original OVA up on a pedestal (and I didn't carry any of the baggage or warm feelings for that with me to this TV series), but I find that it's a fun, mostly episodic show with nice little bits of humor here and there, and a couple great episodes (mostly the Sucy episode). Definitely have had more than a few laugh out loud moments too! There are a ton of neat easter eggs hidden all over the place too.

I'm not too good with verbalizing my feelings/critiques on it in an articulate manner, which is why I don't post much about it. At least i'm not good enough to be able to argue for it.

Na, I like it as well. I just don't post about it every week because I don't think I'd be able to say anything that I haven't already. I enjoy the characters and find them fun. I'm down with the wacky antics that we get each week. And it being a family friendly show greatly appeals to me.

I like it too. Lack of Studio Pablo backgrounds is a huge hit to me though and not just that it looks worse, it's less charming as a result imo.

but it's funny overall and I'm not sure what people expected about story and plot that they're disappointed. It's delivering exactly what LWA was and that's pretty good in my book. It's cartoony cartoon, that's good and refreshing actually...

If you keep reading this thread on a regular basis you would believe that anime is nothing but trash, while that might be true it's not healthy to think like that lol.... or maybe it is?

Chalk me up as enjoying LWA too, I guess. I actually agree with a lot of the complaints (if admittedly not all of them) that inevitably pop up every week, but they also generally bug me less.

I'm enjoying LWA as well. I certainly don't think it was the best thing that aired this season but I very much look forward to watching it every week. This magical girl school story is hitting all the right notes for me.

So then it's one of those times where LWA sounds bad only because of a loud few. I get it.

I think it's like that for any anime community ever really. The most vocal members form the narrative for the group and, if not challenged, can generate a perception where the group as a whole loves or hates something. It's only when it's challenged or you venture outside a communities' bubble you'll find that maybe that narrative isn't so universal.
This isn't me knocking the community by the way, just an observation.

Like, if I go look at the IGN Anime Club's facebook group, you'd see that Dragon Maid is amazing, Rakugo doesn't exist with or without its ending, Interviews had a small but dedicated fan base, and no one cares about anything else anymore since Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia and Clockwork Planet are on the horizon. I'm sure looking at other communities would form even more distinct and varying narratives.

I actually think it's really interesting to see how narratives shift between communities, ultimately where certain forums or groups sit on various shows each season. It's also interesting to see which groups get caught up in the big titles, and which maintain that things like AoT or SAO lack quality and exist on hype alone.

As for LWA itself, I'll probably watch it, at least the first episode, whenever Netflix puts it up, but I'm probably more on the side of those disappointed by it, seeing as I haven't really gotten into most of Trigger's efforts.

I know it's an Autumn show but due it arriving on Crunchyroll, I've just started My Hero Academia.

I was doubtful when people said it subverts some cliches but to be fair, I have been quite surprised by certain story beats. It's fun so far, the VA for All Might is great too.

"Oh my.. oh my... GOODNESS!!"

I really love All Might's Japanese VA, I think he nails the character perfectly. I'm far less thrilled with Vegeta/Piccolo in the dub. It just doesn't fit the character in my opinion, not from what I'd been hearing in my head while reading the manga anyway.

S2 starts in like 2.5 days.

MHA is the best.

Also important fact. All Might is easily the best hero of all time.

Glad you are enjoying it.

Comparing the opinion of the different communities each season is pretty cool. Some of them differ so greatly it's kind of amazing.

Well even if I don't like it as much as I did before... the broomstick race and the Sucy dream invasion episodes were REALLY good.

Though being better than most TV anime isn't exactly a great qualifier :p

I enjoying LWA overall but I do feel that only maybe a third of the episodes so far are actually good. I think the second OVA tempered my expectations in advance.

Twin Star Exorcist - END
zzwsshU.gif

Oh wow. What a treat this final episode was! This gif is the perfect symbolism for the theme of the show and how it ended. I mean, there was a LOT of Shounen cheese to the max in this episode, but my goodness, is was done really well, especially that last scene. It was one of the most real and earnest romantic moments I've seen done in anime. They righted the wrong from a few episodes ago to end the show on a positive note.

Overall, I really enjoyed the show through the 50 episodes it aired. I know there were a ton of complaints from those who read the manga because they had a couple arcs of "filler" and/or anime original material, but that part didn't effect me at all since I never read the manga, lol. Either way, I enjoyed my time with the show, even through the slower parts.

Hand Shakers ep.11-END
Did they really just end this pile of garbage with a semi intro/tease into a season 2? WTF is wrong with them. The show is terrible.; absolutely terrible.... Why the fu(k would they even be thinking about wasting the money/manpower to create a second season of this trash? Even with the reveals in the last couple episodes, the story makes no sense and doesn't explain anything about what is going on. You can tell they intended this to be 2 cour, but they should just cut their losses because this was bad... I will give them credit for trying to put out a unique art style/color scheme, however, it was ugly and the presentation was terrible.

Time to do this with the show:

I was more referring to the face book group. I couldn't stand the podcast they had going since the hosts were often massively uninformed or exceedingly unknowledgeable.

Yeah, I could see that. I'm just saying they haven't been ridiculously bad. At least it's something for me to take a look at for a bit.

I know, what a world. I guess this kind of trash is better than some other kinds of trash that aired this season. Besides, I tend to give the "original" series a little more leeway, but..... Yeah, bad choice here..

The design was a dead giveaway with the atrocious direction. Literally thought my vision got worse.

I'm still debating on whether or not I should go see Your Name when it comes to theaters next week. I've heard good things, but I'm pretty sure the theater is just going to have the dub, and I don't have 100% faith in that.

Tamako's Harem 07

I'm honestly enjoying this show, if nothing it's really well made other times it can be kind of funny or charming. The one thing that did bother me (the bird Dera) turned out alright and moreover he's a major contributor for the show.

A very interesting new girl gets introduced this episode.

A cold place where you'll get arrested counts as a Russian stereotype right?

Neo-Russia sounds like the worst place to live. Not that Domon's complete lack of impulse control makes things any easier.

Psychological trauma is one way to activate your super mode. It seems that every Gundam show, no matter how deviant, is destined to have shitty, shitty politicians.

I'd also like to note that Kyoji's design:

kukVFWu.png

With his thick, upturned sideburns, sharp pointed eyelash, scrunched up eyebrow bridge and Kubrick stare make him look like a Go Nagai character, which I assume was intentional.

I don't know when it's supposed to get good, but I dropped it 6 episodes in, a couple more than I'd usually give because I felt I was unfairly bias against the paradigm between the two, male leads (particularly the VA choices were exactly the same for another similar relationship in another KyoAni show I do not like, and I gave myself time to separate the two).

I couldn't get into it though. A user on another forum put it best, "It's like watching beautiful paint dry." Hyouka is impressively creative with its visual presentation but nearly every other element of the production is fantastically boring.
