WipEout Omega Collection releasing on June 6

My problems are multiples :

I have HUNDRED of hours logged into HD, Fury and 2048.

So I don't feel like I really need HD and Fury again. 2048 remaster is THE added value and worth the look. ...
It's the complete opposite for me. Having clocked about 2000++ hours into HD
and Fury, I need them again on PS4 like dope. What I'm most interested in is
that the game now runs butter smooth all the time, hopefully, no matter what
happens on the track. It are essentially these performance drops which put
a good racer off the line. Having a continuous ride / flow while pwning your
way ahead is what makes all of the difference for me. There are so many places
in HD/Fury where the frame rate drops, esp. if there is some action going
on at the very same place, that it becomes pretty annoying when you race a
good line and know your stuff. This seem like a minor issue from a distance,
but the margins are pretty small if you really race on a competitive level
where such drops make all of the difference.

... Then : I want the physical edition because of course I want a WipEout box (I missed the HD Fury EU physical release and second hand is too pricey now) but it's a game, like Rez, that is more convenient to have on the HDD to boot whenever.

So, just like Rez Infinite, I think I'll buy day one the physical release and down the line the digital licence when in sale.
Better buy three copies, really. It's good to have some copies left for a
couple of reasons.

It is worth it for the community features on PS4 alone to get it on the platform. With those you can coordinate LFGs so much better even after most people have fallen off the multiplayer.

I also hope they fixed the collision routine. This sticky behavior of the
crafts when run into each other is very annoying and don't do the game justice.

Another think I would like to see is an increase in difficulty from Elite and
an increases in AI cleverness. If you know the game and blast your way through
the tracks the AI lacks about 5 seconds behind on average. Would be cool if
the AI adapts to the skill of the player somehow. Also learning patterns like
where to place the bombs or use them to defend rockets or something would be
nice as well.

Liking the sound of many graphical improvements along with 1080p 60fps on PS4 looking forward to it. Did the original have 2 player splitscreen as shown in this video?

The original WOHD did, yes (don't know about 2048, guessing not), but it ran at 30fps and felt almost unplayable after the 60fps SP/online modes. Very sluggish. Is the split screen 60 in this version?

If I buy this game on Amazon UK, will I have the steelbook? It shows a normal box and no signs of a steelbook.

I know what you mean but being a game that I do come back very frequently (HD/Fury), it's absolutely worth it for me at this price point even if it were without 2048, which I agree is the main selling point.

Yeah the community function will really help I imagine. Hope the PS4 iterations have a nice long lifespan like HD did.

I doubt they're making any meaningful changes to either games meta beyond the remastering.

Looks like they've added proper grass or more of it compared to 2048?!

Yeah I'm interested to see how 2048 looks with some dedicated footage. Looked wonderful on vita but it might have some underwhelming geometry compared to HD and fury. Worries me that they never really show it in trailers.

Is there a reason to include all three racing games on a collection? Are they pretty much the same besides a different set of maps for each? Or is the gameplay really that different between the titles?

I would think they would just put all the maps on the latest iteration and call it a day?

Yeah, I was kinda hoping it would be a collection where you could choose any track and any vehicle from all the entries, but it looks like they're keeping them distinct. Oh well, still day one.

I haven't played much of them in years, but I'm sure they don't all play the same. Some feel a little different with handling and speed. It's kind of like Forza 4-5-6 are very similar but still different to notice.

2048 is very much its own thing. Fury was an add-on to HD so those two are already integrated.

Really this is a collection of 2 games.

Of course, I immediately commented on the US Blog to PLEASE add in some sort of PSVR support (I'll even pay for an add-on!).

Having tried WipeOut Fusion and F-Zero GX in VR (emulation, of course) was insane and I NEED IT FOR OMEGA COLLECTION

If this included ps vr support, I would have bought it. Since it doesn't, I'm not sure. I really love VR in Dirt Rally, but have no interest in playing the game without VR.

99% of people would projectile vomit playing Wipeout in VR. It ain't gonna happen.

Wipeout is a fantastic racing game on its own.

I prefer the way they decided to it. While I own all the games I've barely touched on them apart from HD.

I'd rather play them as they were meant to be played, with their proper campaigns intact.

Does anyone know if the game is native 4k on Pro or checkerboarded?
Dynamic 4K iirc. So can range from native 4K to lower depending on the load. It's probably similar to HD's 1080p60.
PS3 1080p60 (kinda) games ported to the Pro should be able to do some interesting things bump wise.

Right, thanks. Am interested to see how well it performs, particularly on the Pro. Shouldn't expect too much in the way of performance troubles at 1080p at least, but I guess we'll see how well done the port is.

Still bummed that we aren't getting the complete package, re: 2048 intro...

I think it's CBR in 4K. Native 4K, I don't think so.
Well, I'm not a fan of dynamic scalling either, at last not how it was
implemented for WipEout HD on PS3. For, the resolution got scaled if the game
was overloaded, i.e. if the framerate drops a significant amount below 60fps,
but that's something which needs to happen first and as such will drop the
response of the game as well for a fraction of a second. On PS3 WipEout HD,
with, for example, a quake running around and some action on the track, you
knew that not only the resolution will drop in a moment but also that the
game's response to your action will be messed up during the switch. It was
annoying.

I just got the PSVita version a few weeks ago when it was on sale and it comes with HD and Fury free add on tracks so I assume this is just a HD all in one of the vita release.

I'm all for buying it since I got it for $4 or so. Really looking forward to this and even considering buying a new TV for it haha.

All this mambo jumbo about scaling is worth sh!t if the response of the game
suffers for even a fraction of a second! With all the threading and stuff
going on in the PS4, I'm questioning that the new game won't be influenced by
it. Even the PS3 had issued here. Guess for example you have a blast in zone
mode and the game suffers for a fraction of a seconds. It will ruin your run.

It's a 9 year old game. How and whether they have improved it in this time is not clear we will know for sure when Digital Foundry gets their hands on it in June.

Actually the one thing that was very noticeable, at least for me on the PS3, was when the soundtrack would change to a new song the game would freeze for a fraction of a second which REALLY fucked up some Zone rounds.

Was odd, indeed.

Another thing was the tearing on the upper portion of the screen which,
frankly, is less noticeable under normal racing, but in zone at very high
speeds it becomes much more pronounced. And if the track is very demanding
like for example Modesto Heights this tear runs across the screen a couple of
times completely fukking up the run.

I knew they work on that tearing a bit more, but somehow couldn't fix it
for some reasons.

Another issue is the collision detection in zone at very high speeds. The
craft becomes so sticky to the walls, arrgh! The input will mess up with you
ricochet along the walls without being able to dump it down at high speeds.
