WipEout Omega Collection releasing on June 6

Same with 2048 on Vita.

I bought the PSP for Wipeout Pure and the Vita for Wipeout 2048.

This is not quite enough for me to get a PS4. But I'll buy the game as part of my collection.

Yep, I bought my PSP for Pure, my Vita for 2048 and my PS3 for HD/Fury.

Also people saying any of the PS1 titles are the best, ignoring Pure, have some serious rose tinted glasses.

So true, although Pure was something truly special as well.

Was that the first one that came out on the PSP or the second one? Because I owned the second one, and it was indeed very excellent from what I recall.

I would have bought it if Wipeout 2097 was included. Best one IMO, and also best soundtrack by far.

Undoubtedly. Maybe best soundtrack in a racing game ever?

Pulse was the second one, much snappier control, pure was more airy. I like them both.

Pure had awesome free dlc level packs (region specific) which was kinda crazy for a handheld back then too. Pulse had dlc too, but it was paid. Also got a PS2 port I think.

To anyone that buys this:

Do yourself a favor and get the Shatter soundtrack and play Zone Mode.

You're welcome.

Have it on vinyl, will have to synch it up and give it a go haha. WipEout 2097, incidentally, was one of the first video games to have her soundtrack on vinyl.

I always found it really interesting how drastically they changed the ship physics between the two titles, it can be pretty jaring going between them. The PSP DLC was surprisingly comprehensive and generous considering it was free. It included a BUNCH of licenced music, new track packs and vehicles AND skins for the menu! Unfortunately I think only Europe got them; the files work on my PSP (Aus). And yeah, Pulse got a PS2 port as a kind of apology for the delay of WipEout HD I think?... Citation needed lol

There were USA and Japanese dlc packs for pure too - Each region got different tracks and music. At least I think, I remember making an effort to try them all out.

Yeah, the dlc for pure was really awesome at the time.

thewipeoutzone forum still has the pure free dlc as I think it's not possible to get them from Sony anymore. I remember transferring it to vita and having it work too.

I think you're right, I remember Japan got some good support in particular. I've the EU ones that I can rehost if people can't find them elsewhere.

Recommended to someone who's not much into racing games ? After seeing the 4K footage on my TV, I'm clamouring for it for the eye candy alone. :p

Yeah it all still works. :)
I have all 3 versions of Pure on PSP actually, just for the different DLC packs. :)

Pulse was great as well, but I still prefer Pure.

My favourite overall would have to be 2097 closely followed my the original.
I do understand why they can't just include those games into this remake as the physics are very different and wouldn't work with this model.
But I can't help but wish for a remake of the original trilogy with everything in tact.

I'm surprised by the amount of Gaffers that didn't play any Wipeout game before this collection, based on the comments here and the other big thread following the announcement.

I hope this sells well because it deserves it.

It's not an easy game though.

The speed increases between leagues so it gives you plenty of training.

But it's a challenge, and a great one :)

--by the way, Redout is awesome. Little bit different from wipeout in the way it controls but not in a dumbed down way and it grows on you a lot.
Out on PC, coming to consoles (including switch) this year.

IMO: Pure > Pulse > HD+Fury > 2097 > 2048 (needed better framerate) > 3 > Original (awesome back then, but gameplay didn't aged well) > Fusion
--by the way, Redout is awesome.
I also love Formula Fusion on Steam, and Cosmic Challenge on mobile.

Nice, thanks. I'll check out cosmic challenge, there's an android version for free on the playstore, will download tonight.

I bought formula fusion and it's looking good but I'm still waiting for more polish before I sink into it.

Well, I'm not that big racing fan in general either. I've enjoyed playing racing games like Stunt Car Racer, SSX, TrackMania, and Driveclub along with WipEout series. If those kind of racers are to your liking, you might enjoy WipEout as well. Be prepared for an unforgiving old school arcade experience though. ;)

I really wish they could find a way to get 2097 and 3XL up on PSN. PS1 classic for Vita hopefully.

That way, I could have all the great WipEout games in one place. Fusion doesn't need uploading anyway because it was pretty crappy.

Cosmic Challenge is more different and it's better to play using a pad, but it has many cool features like a character editor with user generated tracks or weekly tournaments.

I'm going to buy this even though I might not get a PS4.

I bought HD for the PS3 when it was on sale, despite not owning the machine, just because I was so hyped :) 1st hand console never got as cheap as I wanted so it remains unplayed :)

PS4 is in place now, so I really need to get this one! Just torn between physical and digital..

^ have fun! I know what you mean about digital and physical...

If you go physical first it might be better as it could be harder to find later on + digital sale down the line...but have to put up with switching discs in the mean time.

Tough choice.

Good timing, just got a pad for my phone :D

To add to recommendations:
I also vouch for Distance. It's a simple game (it's in early access, after all), but it's rather solid and fun for a demo experience. Would recommend if it develops in the way it seems to be going at full release.

Absolutely, Distance is already quite awesome. Sorry for the thread de-rail lol.

My favourite thing in distance is time trialing on the Monolith stage. I played that same track so many times, great music too. Has user made levels as well.

I think it's also coming to PS4.

I do remember having it on PSP but my mate was really into WO in PS1 days so thats only tjme i played it

Been waiting for Redout to get a solid sale before I jump in, and FF I'm in the same boat; just waiting for the full release which appears to be coming up fast!

One thing that the PS3 game did well was integrating the MP3s into the gameplay, i.e. distorting the music when you crashed or got blown up. I will miss this dearly if the processing of music is removed (which I suspect due to the Spotify integration...).

Seeing Wipeout Pure on a PSP at launch was mindblowing.

I agree. Wipeout Pure was simply amazing at the time, and still holds up well to this day.

I loved all of the free DLC for Wipeout Pure. It effectively doubled the size of the game.

It's a shame that the Pulse DLC was never made available here in the US. Even though the game has been out for several years, I'd probably still buy the DLC if they released it today.

BallisticNG, free on Steam, http://store.steampowered.com/app/473770/

Sorta like the PS1 releases, just without pop-ups, insane draw distance and more than 30 fps :P

You can even import ships from the original PS1 discs.

EDIT: it also runs happily in 4K and beyond

Pure & Pulse occupy a permanent space on my memory card, I made sure I snapped up all the Pulse DLC as soon as possible (EU account).

I'm gutted all the Pure DLC has been removed, can't see any way to get it on my Vita.

Been following the developers Youtube channel for a while now. He posts update videos there quite frequently.

It's great to see 2048 getting the console treatment. Been getting a lot of time on my Vita lately due to me having to take my siblings to doctor appointments or classes that last for about an hour or 2. I usually wait in the car/lobby and put in 2048 and try to get elite passes on every event.

I didn't realise WipEout had such a strong history of DLC until I read this thread.

I wonder if this game is mega successful might we get some of the older games tracks or even full games as DLC.

I don't remember the exact steps, I'm sure they're somewhere on wipeoutzone - probably just involves transferring through content manager? Don't see how else you could do it, and I did it (a while back).

You can download them from wipeoutzone too, give it a google and it will be near the top.

I'll have a look. Are we talking legit ways of getting them (i.e. I can play them on my main account Vita?)

If I remember correctly, the DLC was from an age where the Playstation store either didn't exist or was in its infancy, so I think you literally just downloaded a ZIP file from the Wipeout Pure website and extracted it to your memory card. (That's probably part of why they were free--no infrastructure to charge people for it.) I don't see why you wouldn't be able to play them on your main account Vita.

Also, while we're at it: here's the Wipeoutzone thread where you can grab them.

Oh, wow. If this is true you guys may have just made my life, I had no idea it was possible to get the DLC like this. Thank you so much!

Can confirm, I've had them on my Vita for years now, they work great! Don't be concerned if the game seems to freeze for ~10s in the initial loading screen and loading a new track, it's just the system accessing the new data.

On the note of Pure and Pulse on Vita, does anyone else notice that they seem to run smoother? Performance wise, I think the framerate is a lot steadier and the OLED does wonders for the picture, too. Basically keep my Vita as my portable WipEout machine.

Gonna pre order this.

I really hope this sells amazingly well and that Sony then decides to make a whole new Wipeout as a launch game on PS5.

I'd literally lose my shit if that happened.

That's the dream, but the use of 'Omega' (being the last letter of the Greek alphabet) doesn't inspire hope; are they subtly stamping out any hope for a future game? :(

I think judging the end of anything by its name is bullsh!it. Sorry. ;) Omega
is just the next name sounding somewhat cool when put right next to WipEout.

It's the people ignoring the superior Pulse that blow my mind.

The two games on PSP are the best games, that's why HD is the best in the series as it's a perfect combination of the two. Throw Fury in and nothing can touch it.

You're probably right, but it's easy to be pessimistic about the future of this series sometimes lol

Pulse, to me, felt like it lacked character and was a bit more shallow. Don't get me wrong; I loved that hilariously unbalanced Eliminator mode (with Repulsor you become death, destroyer of ships lmao), but I felt like Pure had more charm. The menus were slicker, the music and tracks more varied thematically, and the floaty physics were added an extra layer of strategy to grasp. The intros are, however, equally badass ;)

One thing in particular that made Pure stand-out for me was the unlockable gallery of concept art (which I can't find a good link to beyond hosting them myself). These were really great tone-setters, and that counts for a lot with my enjoyment in games.

Sony is bringing 2048 to PS4? They must really want to erase Vita bad. What will they take next I wonder :P

All kidding aside, the PS4 really does lack great arcade racers. Seeing this happen is great. I for one hope Activision brings over Blur one day. The IP deserves a second chance at life.
