Wipeout Pure - have you solved it?

I would like to know if anyone has made it past the Rapier Beta tournament. And if so I'd like to say in advance that I probably don't believe you.

How have the unlockables been so far? New tracks, new rides, new music?
I got
a new "classic" track
when I hit
10 golds
. There are
four classic tracks to unlock.
No idea about rides or music, though I'm not that far in.

Ok it hurts me to bump my own thread, but now that there are more of you out there playing Wipeout compulsively, I gotta know -- has anyone made it past Rapier Beta?

i'm getting there. i swear i'll beat rapier beta tonight or tomorrow. i've got the first track down cold, and the fourth is more or less a gimme. the second is currently the source of considerable shame and bitterness. but the third is a bit easier, i think.

I'm still trying to figure out how to turn so I don't hit walls. :P

I like the Dpad much better than the analog nub for this game. The analog nub controls feel too floaty. Also, it is tough to hit the L shoulder button when you use the analog nub. I've been practicing on the first course for awhile trying to get a perfect run! :lol This is my first Wipeout game I've played since the original PSOne version so it is going to take me awhile to get used to it!

Just beat it on my third try... and my first two tries were because I fucked up the first level. I'm flying with Auricom.

Beat it in two tries. You guys are weaksauce

And just to chime in: this is the first Wipeout game that I've played for more than 30 minutes

what are the stats on this zone ship? i really can't bring myself to play the last two zone courses. i find that mode completely boring.

i'm still getting my ass kicked by the third class :(

Join the club....

I'm curious on the higher tracks with the sharper turns... are you guys hitting both airbrakes to slow down THEN hitting the respective airbrake to powerslide around the corners? I'm actually have trouble training myself to hit both, then hit the one I want...

eh, that zone ship sounds overpowered. like piranha in wipeout xl. i'll see if i can beat phantom with harimau before i resort to that.

and i suppose it depends on what ship you're using, but i don't think there's any need to use both airbrakes at once. using harimau, i never need more than a quick tap on the appropriate airbrake...the thing is to take good lines and start your turns early.

Who the hell says "solved"? You're probably that kid I knew in 3rd grade who called levels "racks"... "Hey man, you solve the fifth rack yet?"

I am fucking sick of this...
1ms after you fire weapon, other ship puts shield on.
1ms after overtaking you, other ship drops bomb.
1ms after you overtake them, other ship fires missile.

I'm on the last frigging straight, get overtaken, pick up a missile, fire it and it misses!?
Cheating bastards.

The best (and by best, I mean worst) is when you're hit by the Control Disruptor with less that 5 seconds to go. :lol

GAME OVER. TRY AGAIN!

Also, the game is kinda buggy, in that sometimes you'll end up with a clipping error that gets resolved by moving you to the back of the pack. This seems to happen to me at the worst possible times. If the game let you try a race again without replaying the whole circuit, it would be less of an issue....

Pure has NOTHING on Fusion, though. THAT game had some serious clipping problems. I really enjoyed it, but the lack of polish was astounding at times. Though, I believe it worked in my favor one time. I fell through the ground (after a really bad jump) and it placed me WAY ahead of the leader for some reason. Usually wasn't that kind, though...

ah, playstation generation.

The Zone ship is 5 speed, 1 shield, 5 handling, 4 accel, I think.

I still can't get by the no-PSP class.

Me too, I wish Target or Best Buy would leave a PSP at the front door and I would trip on it and take it home...

Imagine if they left a copy of Wipeout Pure... that would be fun...
