WipE'out" Pure update. :eek

I'm suprised at the lack of celebration of this Aphex news! You people obviously don't know who Richard James is! After playing Pure, you'll know. *devious grin* Yes, you'll know. AND YOU'LL TURN INTO RAVENOUS APHEX FREAKS YOU WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you just troll up everything you can against Nintendo?

"Played the shit out of this game yesterday and I concur with all positive impressions. This game is the Wipeout you've been waiting for."

Che, can you confirm that we aren't stuck to the track on this one and we are back to 2097 "bump and grind" racing?

Super ultra-fucking confirmed on that, DCharlie. This is the most violent WO yet. Great special effects too.

Played 4 player wireless too... smooooth.

My favorite is the Zone mode where the graphics get all Rez-like and you're speeding around this same special track over and over again, and with each lap, you go faster and faster (you don't even have to press the accelerate button, you're just constantly propelled, although you can use the brakes to slow down). Each speed bump earns you a "Zone grade" ... it goes from 1 to ... 9999 (or higher) and as you can imagine, the speed at even the high 30's Zone level is fucking unreal.

You can even unlock a special wireframe/Rez loook for some of the classic tracks from older WO games. HOT FUCKING SHIT!

I love you che :O

If this is not drool worthy I don't know what it is.

That sounds awesome. I guess I am gonna have to go with Wipeout Pure. Consider me converted.

Damn, che, that sounds fantastic! I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on this!!

Not that it's a huge deal, but is the framerate still simply 30 fps? 60 fps would really be icing on the cake, but that would be some fine tasting icing!

It must be.
The Nintendo DS is dead. I've heard SO MANY PEOPLE talking about the PSP... from age 8 to age 30. It's going to absolutely dominate.
That was from the PSP press release thread. If it's sarcasm, he's using it too much.

looks very good, i'm wondering if there's a lot of ghosting on the psp screen with this game. anyway can developers minimize it while keeping the speed and nice colors ?

Zone mode. awesome I rocked at zone mode on the demo of fusion.

Yeah, but Oli was THE premiere Nintendo fan on the GAF for quite some time. There was almost nobody around here that worshipped Nintendo products like Oli. However, things have obviously changed and he has adopted a more balanced approach to gaming...

You can still love Nintendo and comment in such a fashion on one of their products, you know...

Che covered all of the good stuff, but I'll just come in and say that he's not bullshitting around. Wipeout is hands down the best first-party launch title. Loading times were excellent, multiplayer was really well-done. The Zone (the Rez-like speed run) is hardcore awesome. Couldn't tear myself away (well, I kinda had to but yeah).

Fucking awesome! I haven't played Wipeout since 1998 :P

Did you play Twisted Metal Head ON? Any impressions of that?

I did. And... I really didn't like it. I think I'm writing up impressions for a major gaming website at some point, so I'll save the specifics for the people what is paying me. Apparently some people at the event enjoyed it, but... big time not me.

Did you like Twisted Metal Black or Twisted Metal 2?

Did you enjoy Twisted Metal Black on PS2?

The car physics and the controls in TMB are just awful, I am gonna try customizing the controls some more before I give up. Vigilante 8 on PSX was a lot better than TMB.

What what what?!?!?!?!

V8 was terrible in comparison to Black. TMB had FANTASTIC controls and physics. It's only real downfall was some weak AI routines, but that certainly did not ruin the overall game. I LOVED TMB and I hope Head On plays very much like it...

absolutely fantastic!

Also, how is the ghosting / colour bleeding? not a problem?

Yeah, like all other Wipeouts, Pure starts you off real slow and by the time you get to Phantom class, it's fucking uncontrollably insane.
Ok, sweet. I couldn't understand the excitement from the videos. The graphics are great and the music ROCKS, but it looked so freaking slow and unexciting.

i'm torn between RR & Wipeout as well. I was thinking of getthing both, but then they are both racing games...

Welcome back, Wipeout!!

man, Future Crew did some awesome PC demos too. I remember trancing out to that shit back in 1991.

I didn't find out about them until 93, but I was certainly blown away by Second Reality. I think that was the reason I bought a Gravis Ultrasound :lol

Cheers for the Wipeout info, btw. Zone mode sounds utterly amazing.

And God of War is coming out the SAME DAY

I'm sure i'll get both eventually, but I'm not going to play two racing games at once.

This man knows what he's talking about.

The recent gameplay vids of Head-On have me worried. It looks slow compared to Black, the collision seems a tad off, and the levels shown were kinda bland. I'm hoping, though...

EDIT: And the MUSIC! :(

Timing of this system launch couldn't be any better for me. Annual bonus time in mid-march = me not having to make a choice between RR and WoP. SPLURGE

...or you could get over the nintendo fixation altogether and enjoy the superior wipeout franchise on superior psp hardware. the last thing wipeout should inspire in a functioning gamer is a desire for crude old f-zero. but hey: whatever works for you.

You take that back. F-Zero GX is one of the greatest racing games ever made.

You're going to make him say that? He's already pandering to your way of thinking anyway.

Wipeout? Check.
Ridge Racer? Check.
Gran Turismo? Check.
Twisted Metal? Check.
GTA? Check.

PSP is THE system for vehicle based games. Now if only they'd release it in New Zealand...
