MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Assembly approved a ban on the so-called morning-after pill on state college campuses, a restriction that would be the first in the nation if approved.
The vote in the lower chamber late Thursday sends the bill to the state Senate; both are controlled by Republicans. Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle said he will veto the measure if it reaches his desk.

The legislation would prohibit University of Wisconsin System health centers from advertising, prescribing or dispensing emergency contraception — drugs that can block a pregnancy in the days after sex. The state university system has 161,000 students on 26 campuses.

Republican Rep. Daniel LeMahieu introduced the bill after a health clinic serving UW-Madison students published ads in campus newspapers inviting students to call for prescriptions for the drug to use on spring break.

"Are we going to change the lifestyle of every UW student? No," LeMahieu said. "But we can tell the university that you are not going to condone it, you are not going to participate in it, and you are not going to use our tax dollars to do it."

That part's kinda dumb. The morning after pill is like a megashock of regular birth control pills, right? If you're going to foresee needing it a few weeks down the line, why don't you just use the regular pill at a more moderate dosage for greater effect?

Well, if you advertise contraception then people will think it's OK to have sex.

Instead, the university should just start advertising anal sex as an alternative. "If he sticks it up your pooper you won't get preggers!" Has a catchy ring to it.

Interesting, I read this story right before I came here:

ALBANY — State lawmakers yesterday approved a bill granting women easy access to the "morning after" birth-control pill.

In a surprise move, the GOP-controlled Senate dropped its long-standing opposition to the measure and passed it. The Democratic-led Assembly had already OK'd the bill in January.

The measure allows pharmacies to provide the "morning after" pill to women on a walk-in basis without a prescription. The medication could be provided by any pharmacist, as well as nurse or midwife, who gets a blanket prescription from a doctor for any customers.
Seven states have similar measures.

Senate sponsor Nicholas Spano (D-Westchester) called the measure "the most significant bill we've passed this session" and said its passage provides "a safe effective way to prevent pregnancy and reduce the abortion rate."

But opponents feared the contraception, which must be taken within 72 hours after sex, will lead to more unprotected sex among teens, and takes away from parental choice.

Emergency contraceptives, also known as morning-after pills and by the brand name Plan B, are intended to prevent pregnancy by ensuring that an egg does not become fertilized.

It is different from RU-486, often called the French abortion pill, which aborts an already attached embryo.

Gov. Pataki was noncommittal when asked if he would sign the bill.

Because it's cool to be spontaeneous.

They'll forget and blame it on something else though.

As dumb as we all like to think it is, the intentions are very good. The intention is curbing dumbasses from having unprotected sex. My people (white, middle class, 18-24 year olds) are fucking stupid. Many of them fuck without a condom ("Uhh, I didn't have one") or forgets their fucking birth control ("I didn't take my pill today <giggles>") and then they act shocked why their genitals smell like death a week or two later.

I was with a girl who felt free to tell me that she has at least two STDs. I couldn't keep the look of shock and disgust off my face. She wondered what was wrong and I told her that she admitted to having two STDs. She didn't think it was a big deal because everyone she knew had them and figured that it was almost standard. I had to ask how many people and she said at least 30. I stopped the date immediately. For the record, she was very attractive, lived in the suburbs in a big ass house, and smelled very nice.

I hate society. How's the STD rates in Canada? I might have to head up north to get some action because American pussy is like petri dishes. I would say American cock but I don't care and for whatever reason, I'm still clean (got the charts to prove so)

And even i am moderately surprised
eh? and not having the morning after pill is going to help these dumbasses how exactly?

it'll just mean with no morning after pill and no abortion that these rancid little fucktards will actually increase in numbers.

They want morning after pills ? f*cking give them them by the truck load.
They want late term abortions? let's raise the limit to people in there mid 20's - that should be long enough to figure out whether they are worth while or not.

Of course - we should all listen to bush and abstain....

Better that she told you than pull a puritan head in the sand move.

Not sure why people won't get it through their heads. Our bodies actively make us want to have sex, especially in the college age categories. Its natural and can't be prevented except by conscious choice. People who are spontaneous, get drunk at a party, etc. will be looking for options so that they don't have to make much more difficult decisions once they find out they ARE pregnant. This is a relatively responsible move on their parts IMO and curbing people from being able to prevent getting into a position where they might have to consider an abortion is beyond retarded.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
Banning contraceptives will never, ever curb the amount of sex people have, you stupid fucks (you know who you are out there). Not only that, and while I know this isn't exactly something new, the idea of the government trying to prevent people of mature age from having sex is just ludicrous and disturbing, and this particular means of doing so will only lead to more of those things conservatives love so much.......ABORTIONS! Oh wait, but the kind of ignorant fucks who try to pass bills like these think the morning after pill is abortion.....you're aborting a non-existent, future fetus!

Stupid ignorant fucks. God I hate the government (and I'm from Wisconsin). Do something useful with your fucking time.

Its funny that they don't want people to shoot cats but they want this shit banned. It won't curve underage, unprotected sex but if they're stupid enough to do it, they'll do it no matter what.

Better that she told you than pull a puritan head in the sand move.

She called just last night. I didn't pick it up. Condoms are very effective against sex but its clear that she thought the pill or a shot was enough. I'm running out of single, attractive girls my age. I may have to aim for the MILFs.

Wrap your fucking tools and for the ladies, take the fucking pills. Or shot. Whatever.

These states are such bullshit, if the "morning after" pill was made from some derivative of milk/cheese Wisconsin would be touting it on billboards instead of banning it.

This bill doesnt even do much, It just prohibits the campus Health Center from having it. There are so many other options for getting it. There is even a website that will call in a perscription for you.

That being said, this will be vetoed

This makes no sense, do they think banning these pills will make kids stop having sex? Not only will it not chanmge it anything in terms of the people having sex, but it will make things work because it will produce more unwanted pregnancies.
