Witcher 3 Collector's Edition getting exclusive physical content on XB1 [CDP Comment]

what does this mean

pc-centric series, exclusive content on xb1 lol

lost some respect for CDPR, although I'll admit I wasn't going to buy the CE anyway.

I can't believe that some people on GAF - full of supposed gaming veterans - are acting outraged about exclusivity. Especially about stuff like cloth maps in collector's editions.

Shit is getting ridiculous.

They issued a statement

Looking at the heated comments, I believe that our announcement of the physical addition of two decks of Gwent cards and a cloth map, requires a further word from us.

Here at CD Projekt Red, we always put gamers first. Our PC versions are released DRM-free, we bend over backwards to give you the most beefed up editions of our games (be it standard or Collector's), and we deliver the same game, regardless of platform or version you buy. Moreover, we promised not have any exclusive DLCs, neither per platform nor per retailer, and we do stand by our promise--nothing has changed, nor will change in this regard.

Don't get me wrong, I do understand that these extra items might be desirable for Witcher fans playing the game on other platforms. However, as we are not offering any platform or retail exclusive DLCs or any other form of gameplay differentiation, we do have to find other ways to support our partners. We are also providing special pre-order items for certain retailers around the world, including Witcher comic books, posters, steel books or medallions. Funnily enough, we did not notice any heated comments on the pre-order specials.

What is the reason? Why are we doing this? We need the support of partners to make our game visible worldwide. This should hopefully translate to better sales, which will in consequence allow us to do what we have been doing for the last 10 years, i.e. reinvest this money to make more great RPGs, while still sticking to our values.

If you still consider that adding two decks of Gwent cards and a map of the in-game world to the Xbox One CE equals us betraying our values and not fulfilling our promises, well, it does make us sad, but the final call is always yours to make.

Still, I do hope that what we offer is unique and we can ask you to give us the benefit of the doubt. We have more great things to announce for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the coming months and I promise you won't be disappointed (yes, yes, there are no more exclusives coming).

Cool I guess, but I've been thinking about cancelling my PC CE order anyway. I'm just not sure what I'd do with another obnoxious statue. I may just go straight digital on Steam.

Anyone who boycotts CD Projekt Red over something like this and buys games like Destiny/Batman/Assassins' Creed is a hypocrite.

CD Projekt Red remains one of the least exploitative companies in the industry.

Good and honest statement. Like I said, they didn't break any promises. I honestly can't understand the outrage for doing something they've been doing since 2011 at least.

Go for GOG! You support them, get more bonuses and it's DRM-free.

If you don't have love for the board/card game community that's fine but it hurts so bad man. It's so painful... At least let us BUY the extra stuff! I'd pay $100 for it!
I'd be surprised if they don't release it through some web store as well. Might just take a few months

Now I wonder why...

Agreed.

CD Projekt Red remains one of the least exploitative companies in the industry.

The problem here is that they are constantly shifting their position, abandoning their past promises. If this trend continues, they won't be "one of the least exploitative companies in the industry" much longer.

Out of curiosity, which promise they broke? They said they would keep game parity between different platforms. It's still the same. No exclusive in-game content.

They gotta do what they gotta do. Just means I won't pick up the CE at launch and just pick up the game on PS4. Then I'll wait for the CE to drop in price and pick it up on Xbox One once the price is comparable to buying the PS4 game + CE for the same price the CE was originally.

The price to pay for an additional marketing push.
Considering how consumer friendly they usually are I think people should give them a break, though I do understand that people who have ordered the CE on other systems have every right to be upset.
CDPR have a lot riding on TW3. They should've seen the backlash coming a mile away though.

I'd start with:

- No regional pricing on GOG
- No exclusive content on different platforms (they didn't say in-game, and refer to CE items as "physical-content")
- No microtransactions (will be introduced in the MOBA game)

Don't understand why they can't sell them as a pack separately to us.

So much this. His statement is level headed, and honest. CD Projekt RED are some of the best devs and I trust them entirely. The DRM free approach on GOG, the amount of extras, the Director's Cut- they've worked wonders. I guess putting in these physical exclusives was a good deal between them and Microsoft, but I don't hold it against them in any way. I just hope they allow us to purchase the items separately after some time.

Ordered the CE on PS4, will probably play mostly on PC.

Pretty classy statement from CDPR.

Personally this kind of stuff doesn't bother me. If it keeps the monkeys off their backs for another day then they can do what they need to do as far as I'm concerned.

More exclusives are coming, good. Give me something for preordering the pc version.

- No exclusive content on different platforms (they didn't say in-game, and refer to CE items as "physical-content")
- No microtransactions (will be introduced in the MOBA game)

- They won't use regional pricing anymore and, in fact, will pay for themselves any differences.

- No in-game exclusive content was clear from the start. The Witcher 2 had exclusive content for GOG and the Xbox 360 version was also different. Never in-game content. They've been doing the same since 2011 at least.

- MOBA game isn't The Witcher 3. I know they've said any game from them wouldn't feature microtransactions and that was a mistake, but the "main" games still don't feature them. Besides, at least it's not pay-to-win.

Absolutely, although that tells us a lot about the sorry state the industry is in.

That is a fair statement. I still don't like it, and it does leave a bad taste in my mouth (simply put, paying 250 bucks and not getting full CE causes that), but at least they directly and quickly addressed the issue. I like that.

what does this mean

It means I'm watching, enjoying a smoke, and deciding how much of a graveyard I'm going to turn this thread into.

I'm frankly a little tired of the whining and wailing in every MS related thread. I am not alone in this on the moderation team. People are not required to like or purchase anything from MS, but they are required to not act like jerks in every single MS news thread.

I've been focused on OT for awhile, but it seems clear I need to spend some more time on the gaming side.

Not sure how I feel about the CD Projekt statement, they are my favourite PC company and while I can see were they are coming from it still conflicts imo with the stance they like to show on parity. I love what they have done and achieved with GOG, I only found about about GOG from the Monk incident, and IIRC that's the only other time they did something i'll just say questionable for now. I know they asked for the benefit of the doubt and if anyone has earned that right it's them, but I can't say my trust is at the same level as it was.

Thank you!

As a solely PS4 owner who hasn't played a Witcher game before, this doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'll take this over exclusive in-game DLC every time. I do feel for the hardcore PC Witcher fans that will miss out though.

Hasn't the CE been sold out for ages? Did they really have trouble moving the Xbox One version? I'm a little confused as to how this is beneficial from a business standpoint.

Anyway, I just hope they didn't put too much effort into this "Gwent" in-game. Mini games are okay, but I came for the Witcher action-RPG, not a Magic the Gathering clone.

I'm ok with this. Long as they keep their word about in-game content, I don't care if they give a free Triss Merigold Blow up doll to the bone owners.

Niceee, I swear moving in with a non gaming gf is the worst.

She would not appreciate how awesome this is and would moan.

Already had a battle to get the Destiny Ghost edition

lol, I like how you turned this news into an unrelated axe to grind with your girlfriend

I hope people realize that this is not the first time CDPR has given a certain CE more goodies over another. The retail edition tracking for The Witcher 1 is nightmarish:

I believe there may have been something similar for The Witcher 2, but I am unable to find an easily accessible post somewhere that displays this so for now let's assume only The Witcher 1 had physical content division.

I can certainly understand people being upset. I myself would hate to see CDPR start doing worse. But this is not an unprecedented move and, as someone else pointed out here, they may offer that card game on the web store later on. Sucks, but not the end of the world.
