Witcher 3 Collector's Edition getting exclusive physical content on XB1 [CDP Comment]

To be fair, he said they do things like this for their partners so that they have exposure. More or less, it sounds like they are doing this to get some free advertising from MSFT.

He says...

What is the reason? Why are we doing this? We need the support of partners to make our game visible worldwide. This should hopefully translate to better sales, which will in consequence allow us to do what we have been doing for the last 10 years, i.e. reinvest this money to make more great RPGs, while still sticking to our values.

Which is essentially saying that they need the exposure to sustain the company as is.

It's just some cards and a cloth map. Nothing in-game or anything calm down people damn.

It'll suck if it's the same price and can understand why people might be pissed, but this doesn't really bother me that much (the extra content doesn't seem that great to me).

Isn't that why people get the collectors editions though? For the stuff you can physically keep? I know I do (CoD remote controlled car-thingy, coins and stuff, Final Fantasy post cards, Watch_Dogs hoody/cap/face mask, Tekken hoody).

Classical PC CRPGs almost always had a printed/cloth map included. It just feels odd to exclude that item from the platform where its users would give it more value. My Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity and Torment of Numera Special editions all have it. It's a nice throwback to the golden age of this sort of games. I honestly expected as I posted before that CDP made it available to at least PC users, for an extra price. Seems they won't and that's ok, but I still find it odd.

Yes, I understand that but it's just two things missing from an already nice collector's edition and nine times out of ten you will probably be able to find those packs/cloth on eBay if you really wanted them.

Yeah it seems odd but that's what happens in deals like this I guess lol.

As a PS4 only owner, I'm perfectly OK with that. If it profits CD Projekt and if it does not lock me out from some ingame content, it's fine. I don't buy collector's editions anyway...

Seems fair enough to me. MS paying for a few extra bits in the box while the game remains identical on all platforms.

Some reactions are way too strong here. This is nothing like the TR situation.

Wow, this is really disappointing and a big coincidence. Was just about to buy Duke Nukem 3D and was thinking about double dipping with the Witcher/Witcher 2 because of the GOG sale this weekend to support them, (I already own them on Steam). But after this I won't. Doesn't mean I will never buy anything on GOG or from CDPR in future, it just happened to be this weekend, I hope they think it over and don't do any platform exclusive deals again. Just voting with my wallet here.
If you've already purchased Witcher 1/2 on another platform, like Steam, then you don't need to double dip. You can redeem them for free on GOG to have access to them on there as well.

I wouldn't take this so literally. "need exposure to sustain company" almost makes it sound like they would go bankrupt without this deal, which is I think not the case. They just did it to get some free marketing by MS, hoping to sell more copies, but I honestly think this game will sell gangbusters even without any deals like this. It has won every most anticipated game poll I have seen, including here on neogaf, everyone is raving about it, and it comes out on three platforms simultaneously. I predict at least 5 million copies sold in first month, which will probably more than pay for itself, twice over.

my gog order gives me paper toys and a paper toy catlog, i think we all know who the real winner is here. this chequebook warfare needs to stop microsoft, pls.

Did you read statement, the guy basically says that they need to do this stuff to sustain the company. So they give away some crummy cards for a co-marketing deal OR they cease to exist as a company.

Which do you prefer?

I prefer honesty. Look up their financial reports, their market capitalisation ($500 million), the dividends paid out to them by GOG, the credit line they have in banks and then read his statement again.

That was my interpretation as well.

Did anyone kick up a stink when the CE was first announced without a map? Why were you willing to buy this before for that price? This is a staple after all!

Yeah, agreed, this isn't so bad.

I think it's more funny than anything since it's CDPR and Microsoft has gotten them to oddly go against several things CDPR love to talk about how great they are for doing, while doing the opposite. Like how the first thing they always sight even now is how they are so vehemently against DRM, and to their credit they do atleast follow through with DRM-less PC releases, but conveniently never mention how they were one of the first on stage supporting the DRM-infested, anti-consumer, original Xbone plans, lol. For being so strongly anti-DRM they sure backed a weird horse at the time until MS finally dropped the DRM, it was one of the reasons I didn't think there was any shot they'd be on MS' stage at that E3 and at one point after the DRM reveal I think it was one point where many thought Witcher 3 might even become PC/PS4 only due to the Xbox DRM prior to that E3, instead they partnered with them even while the DRM still existed which was just plain weird to see.

When ms announce a new pc focus people had no idea that meant keeping tomb raider off pc and announcing xbox would be getting stuff but not the pc version of the witcher.

Never change ms....

LOL.

Yeah I think we should know by now, something like this seems to happen each time right after they tout how much they're suddenly going to be supporting PC games lol.

Yeah, I agree, I think it's going to do extremely well and would have either way.

As I said in the other thread I completly understand Micrtosoft buying a timed exclusive for a game like Tomb Raider. Of course it sucks for other console/PC players, but when having similar things in the market you need to make your console more attractive than the other to get more buyers.

As someone that has already bought the PC collectors edition it really doesnt bother me, of course I would have liked the cards and the map (mostly the cloth map) but it's not the end of the world.

What irks me is why Microsoft thought it was a good idea spending any kind of money on a physical exclusive that its not going to do anything for people to change their minds and buy their console. This two exclusive things are even included in a edition that has already sold out! It doesn't make any sense.
The only think this will do is piss some people off and hate them more.

Not the fault of CD Projeckt here, from what they tell Microsoft said something like, if you want us to advertise the game, give us something in exchange, and they decided, thankfully, to use some physical content and not something actually from the game. It was a needed compromise sadly.

It's going to sell well, theres no doubt of that, but sadly the normal world works like this and they need all the help they can. They are not the biggest devs.

It's quite disappointing. I'm keeping my preorder because I don't really care about the cards but exclusive content annoys me, especially since TW's fanbase is by large on PC.

Lol, a cloth map and playing cards. People can't seriously be upset about this.

Collector's Editions are all about trinkets like that, and The Witcher 3 CE is quite pricey. Of course people can be seriously upset about this, because they paid the same amount for an inferior version of the supposedly collectors edition.

Basically only the Xbox One version will be the true Collector's Edition in a sense that it will contain all of the trinkets.

Dude...

People were angry because you got different physical goodies by preording (e.g. pens, phone cards etc...) at certain places for Persona Q.

It didn't even make sense it wasn't like the price of the game was any higher. You got a bonus. Something you don't normally get. For FREE. That doesn't even affect the game.

And people were still made because "fuk exclusive preorders m i right every1".

Huh? The CE was announced with a map. Paper one, but still.

So, PC players have grievances over a cloth version of a map? I didn't realise cloth maps were a big tradition in physical goods with RPGs, rather than just paper maps. I wasn't much of a cRPG guy.

Too much posts, sorry, i'm lost.
Maybe someone already said it, but the PC/PS4 versions' price will be different?
I don't want to pay the same and get less stuff.
I respect CD projekt, but this thing would make mepretty hostile.

PC and PS4 players don't get a cloth map and playing cards, let's check up the prices.

EDIT: Can't find USA prices, but here in UK amazon says both PS4 and X1 are the same price, £140.

EDIT: Gamestop gives same price for all collectors' editions.

The only problem I have with this is that this should've been announced back when they opened the pre-orders for the CEs.

Where I live the PC version is $20 cheaper just because it's a PC game and not a console game. PS4 version is the same price.

Edit: Speaking of that, EB Games NZ still takes pre-order for CE even though they've run out pretty much everywhere else as far as I know. I hope when they eventually start cancelling pre-orders they cancel them in the right order. I don't want to be left without one because they fucked up.

Changing my PC CE preorder to the standard edition. I buy CE's to get all the extra kit but this one would feel incomplete.

Yeah, I know. If PC and PS4 playes will get less physical stuff (cloth map and cards) so I suppose that they will pay less, right? It would be the right thing to do.
My retailer still hasn't updated the Xbox version, so I really don't have a clue. I checked amazon, but i couldn't find an answer

EDIT: thanks
I will wait, but if the won't drop the price of the PS4 version I will cancell my preorder, I won't spend so much for the ultimate nerd edition and get less stuff for the same price. It would be unaceptable for me. Standard version, then.

- preorder xbox one version
- get $18 steam key of the buy/sell thread
- sell xbox one version of the game

I'd rather this than in game content but it seems odd that it's limited to the CE. Seems like it's just going to annoy the people who are shelling out $150 for the game on other platforms since they're the biggest fans and the ones who care most about physical collectables. Still much less frustrating than most of these deals though and doesn't affect me at all.

The biggest fans would love to play the game in the best possible way, but they are giving more stuff with the version that has the highest chances to be the worst one.
It would be a no win for everyone.
Suck that, I will buying the standard edition.

Or GOG, since you can support them directly, and no DRM. If you still like them.

I registered my copy of W2 on GoG, and the gifted copy of W1 I got from a GAF sale thread (I had to e-mail CDPR to get a GoG key, but they game it to me after a couple days). Having both games in my GoG gave me a 20% discount from my preorder.

So that's pretty cool of them.

This doesnt bother me, whatever. If I buy a versiom, itll be PS4. I really question what the thought process was in making this deal. Maybe I see some benefit in keeping your current console owners satisfied that you get a little something extra? Nobody is going to buy a console for this so...

Probably just an over-reaction on my part but this makes me slightly concerned that they might make a bigger deal for Cyberpunk 2077.

Looking at the heated comments, I believe that our announcement of the physical addition of two decks of Gwent cards and a cloth map, requires a further word from us.
Here at CD Projekt Red, we always put gamers first. That doesn't mean that we are not a business, the game is still the same so please shut the fuck up for once you entitled crybabies.

ftfy

Or at least that is what he should have said. Seriously, if there was ever a statement like this I would probably buy the game just for that.

I was afraid of the same thing but any solid news of that game (let alone news of content exclusives, if any) is probably so far off...no point in sparking that discussion yet.

This thread man....

It's not the content so much as who's getting it. If this was PC only the outcry would be nonexistent.

I have a set of cards from Witcher 2. I'd like the extras for W3, but I wouldn't be too upset if I didn't get them. I've got the digital version ordered, but I'm wondering which bundle to get for the collectors edition. If I got the XB1 version, then I know it would sit until a game comes out for XB1 that's actually exclusive. I'm sure if MS doesn't flaunt the money, then someone else will. TR can make money either way. I'm just sure it would make more being multiplatform. If they want to be real competitive, they'd make different statues, but CDPR isn't that kind of developer. They actually care about what their fans get.

Kind of is incomplete without the two other offerings. It's kind of weird that they'd do that. I love the W2 CE, but they do this in certain parts of the world. Heck the W1 CE was like a treasure hunt.

Well that sucks for people like me who love the old school physical stuff.

I love my TW2 CE with all the collectors items, losing the cloth map is a huge deal to me.

I had planned on grabbing the CE on PS4 since I don't own a X1 so that's gone now unless the PS4 CE is cheaper than the X1 CE to make up for less content.

Ill stick to my cheap, $20 steam preorder thank you. Won't be double/triple dipping at launch like I did with TW2 this time (Gog/retail CE and then 360 version at launch)

It's not really that popular, though. The series (as a whole) sold 6 million until last October. That counting The Witcher 1 for PC and Mac and The Witcher 2 for PC, Mac, Linux and Xbox 360. 3 months after the release, only 450k copies were sold on Xbox 360. We should remember that it's a popular series between us, people who care enough to keep looking at news and forums. But not that much for casual players, who are really the majority.

Probably many of you are unhappy with this because you wanted the map or the mini-game. Or both. Well, it's fair to want that, even if I really don't think they're being anti-consumer, dishonest or broke promises. Hopefully whoever wants them can find a way to buy eventually, but I'm glad CD Projekt is still keeping its principles.

Meh. Not in-game content, s'all good.

I can understand some irritation over the cloth map, that's sort of a classic RPG extra to me, but not a huge deal in my opinion.

I cannot fathom being the kind of person who gets upset at stuff like this. Microsoft wanted to pay to make some cards which WOULD NOT HAVE EXISTED OTHERWISE and would go to their console's buyers.

The logical leaps it takes to twist that into some anti-consumer betrayal are just dumb.
