The Astronauts will release the Early Access version of RPG shooter Witchfire via Steam in 2024, the developer announced.

Witchfire first launched in Early Access for PC via Epic Games Store on September 20, 2023, and The Astronauts just released the game's "The Wailing Tower" update, adding a new map alongside new enemies, loot, gear, and features.

Had on epic since day 1 great and fun romp. Anyone interested in fps and rouge experiences will love this game. Sadly another year or two on EA it seems :( I was hoping it was 1.0 but with them just releasing on steam EA it seems we're in for a long wait..

Early access? This game feels like it's been done for years now. I actually wouldn't have been surprised if you had told me it already released

7 years for Early access mate . Game was in a dev hell .

Unfortunately because of that the game looks very dated now , or Wukong Benchmark had already spoilt me

This game is a fucking dud in my eyes. It was announced like what 10 years ago? It was shown as something similar to Painkiller but now its an early acccess roguelike. 0 chance for this to ever see the light of day. Theyll keep it another 5 years in early access.

what is it similar too? i hate destiny but love doom

it looks kind of like destiny in the trailers.. bulletsponges and loot?
I haven't found the enemies to be too bulletspongey, though a criticism is that bosses are.

It's akin to a rogue like souls extraction shooter fps RPG. You get a different series of buffs on excursions as you progress that only last on that excursion.

You take loot from your excursion and can use that to make various buffs and upgrade your character. You also research weapons and spells in between runs.

A typical run takes you through various enemy packs. If you go without taking damage long enough, you end up in a buffed state and can see enemy weak points, which stun the enemy and lead to you doing double damage. It is kind of similar to doom eternal in that regard, with enemy weak points besides just head shots etc.

Pacing wise, I find it to be in between eternal and 2016.

I'm a huge doom fan (especially the classic ones) and also like the souls games, and it does the trick for me. It can be a bit grindy early on, but I'm having fun since the combat is nice.

Oh, and one more point: it's difficulty progression system is very interesting. Different zones get harder as you unlock them (like levels in older games, you know, e1m1 doom is easier than e4m2 doom) but there is also a progression system which opens up more of the game world in each level, makes enemies stronger, and unlocks more equipment and spells for your character. You choose when you want to upgrade the world difficulty.
