100% truth. I was looking forward to this, but I wanted the orignal Power Ranger designs - which still work IMO - of course they can modernize the Zords and have to take the enemies that resemble ordinary animals or household items away - when I want to watch a movie that only use a bit similar designs I can watch one of the tv shows.
I think a big part of why Power rangers didn't do better is that it got too far away from the source material for something that was relying so heavily on nostalgia.
When I say getting away from the source, I mean in the looks department not the actual movie itself.
A lot of people like me took one look at the new suits and zords and went "not my power rangers" and will never give the new movie the time of day to actually go see it in theaters.
It's a big problem when they are depending on people's fondness of the original to sell tickets only to have all the marketing material basically be "this isn't your fathers Power rangers"
are pretty good, could be great with some simplification.
yep. I hope it's a John Carter/Lone Ranger/Speed Racer bomb though where I end up really enjoying it despite the inevitable poor reviews and financial failure.
trailers look a lot cooler than I expected when it was announced. Its about time they brought back this high fantasy cheese to the king arthur tale.
power rangers didn't do well because it was always fucking stupid and all versions deserve to do badly
Ghost in the Shell would have work so much better as a Netflix series around 13 episodes.
Cast an actual Asian actress, find a great script and director, keep the look and feel of the movie as it is (within budget) and you could have had a big hit.
I decided to check out Snow White and the Huntsman after seeing Ghost in the Shell, movie's not the best but hot damn does it look amazing. Apparently studios have had an ungodly amount of faith in Rupert Sanders because according to Box Office Mojo, that thing made $150 million domestic off of a massive $170 million budget!
Also I completely forget a sequel/prequel came out last year starring Chris Hemsworth.
Holy shit, the same guy directed those? No wonder GitS sucked. All I remember from Snow White was Charlize Theron showing up to scream every 30 minutes and an acid trip second act that literally served no purpose.
Tangentially, I loved that the studio chucked Stewart from the sequel after that cheating scandal when Rupert was the 40-year-old married dude (Edit: guess they both got chucked? Thought he still wound up directing).

He didn't do the sequel cuz he was doing GitS.
Its a balance.
If the movie was exactly as is but with

I wouldn't have been remotely interested in the first place.
I was done with that 20 years ago..
Also a large portion of people think Power Rangers is absolutely stupid and childish,
Movie Couldn't live on the fans alone with that budget.
For what they are meant to be
are pretty good, could be great with some simplification.
He didn't do the sequel because he was fired due to the scandal with Kristin Stewart.
Nah they're horrendous overdesiged monstrosities. It's not even that hard to translate. Make the suits look more like power armour with a racing suit flair and have similar colours schemes and your done. Instead they went with that. Its a ibalance.

How much money is there in a Netflix or HBO series? Maybe these studios should start looking at adapting shit toward TV series instead of blowing their money on a movie with diminishing returns.
Watched Gits yesterday with some friends. As a fan of the original, i liked the movie. Was much better than i thought. The theater was also more filled than i expected. I Hope ir pays itself on world tickets.
OK.It won't.
Well, we can always hope, right? Gits bombing wouldn't even be the biggest Injustice related to the box office of live Action anime flicks (that would be the glorious speed racer), but it wasn't a bad movie to me either, so...I mean you can hope but it's pretty close to guaranteed it won't at this point.
From the article in the OP
Meanwhile, the movie hit 124 million worldwide so it recouped its production budget already +14 million on top.
So it's 50% return on domestic, 25% from China, and what about Internationally?

Any chance that Netflix would pick up a series adaptation of the Power Rangers movie? I want that continuity to continue. I thought the movie was fantastic.
I always imagined the suits in a Power Rangers reboot looking like the Tron Legacy suits (black armor suits with neon trim).Nah they're horrendous overdesiged monstrosities. The movie version is a completely separate audience, this version would be right at home on CW for example.Pretty much no chance whatsoever. They already have an on-going Power Rangers tv series. The brand is nowhere big enough to sustain two on-going tv shows. Especially one that can't lean on Super Sentai footage and thus be far more expensive.

I didn't think GitS would bomb so I don't know shit, but King Arthur IMO has bomb written all over it because its trailers are trying to be some weird mix of medieval fantasy and straight up superhero musou shit. It has no cohesive identity at all.
What are the odds Kong made money?
If there was an audience for this people would have shown up in theaters. There is a reason you never really see franchises start out as a film and finish as a tv series with the same cast and continuity in tact.
Will the right lessons be learned from GiTS?
lol no

Same can be also be said of a lot of video game properties. Assassin's Creed and Hitman would do gangbusters on Netflix or Amazon.
I would be interested in a Jin-Roh Live action movie.
But then again, the animation was one part that really sold me on the movie when I saw it friday.
You can't do a Power Rangers movie and have it not be for kids. Make it like live action big Hero 6.
It should be silly and lighthearted. Putting "grounded" teens in there with Alpha and Zordon and big flying monsters makes the movie for no one.
That sounds kind of...like what we got? Maybe not with "racing suit flair", but we already did Power Armor.
