WLAN question

I have a crazy router problem that I can't figure out.

I'm coming from my modem into my wireless router (linksys) 2.4 GHz 802.11g if I'm connected on my LAN connection I can hit the gateway and get out to the net. If I'm running on just the wireless side I can ping the wireless router (192.168.1.1) but I can't ping the gateway or get onto the net. Where am I going wrong?

if you can ping the router one of two things is happening.

1) your router is blocking your access to the internet somehow.

or

2) you don't have your default route setup correctly on the computer.

your router's IP should be the gatway.

check your TCP/IP settings then turn off any MAC filters & read up on your router. most of these new routers allow you to block inet of wireless connections (some by default) while keeping wired open.

Sometimes when my outside IP address changes, I lose the ability to reach outside IP address for those computers connected wirelessly, even though my desktop (connected physically) reaches the internet OK. Unplugging the wireless router and the cable modem for ten seconds or so and plugging them back in almost always fixes it. I can not figure out why this happens, but it always seems to work. Must be a firewall/NAT issue. Don't know if that's your issue, but maybe worth a shot.
