Wonder if Hot Topic will go under?

Samuel L Jackson Reaction GIF by Coming to America

I went into a Hot Topic like a month ago. It was all bright and friendly. Felt really weird. They are just gonna transform into Forever 21 before anyone notices, so essentially yes they are gonna go under.

Who knows. Have you been to a mall recently. They are slowly becoming glorified podcast show rooms.

Are goths even still a thing? Been a loooooong time since some sweet piece of "I hate daddy, myself, the world, but mostly daddy" tricked out goth chick has crossed my path. I just figured they have been subsumed into some other group with a different aesthetic.

They used to have t-shirts that were hilarious back in the 90's. Jeff Spicoli shirt will be fondly remembered! Not sure who they are catering to now. Even the employees are barely goth/alternative these days 😄

They're all danger haired trans loonies now unfortunately

I miss the old days too

How many previous goths do we have on gaf I wonder? Had to be a few of ya. We're in the right age range from what I've seen. I wasn't goth, but maybe goth adjacent. Thought the look was cool at times.

The only thing I ever bought at Hot Topic were CDs. When they stopped carrying CDs I stopped going there.

I occasionally buy band tees / merch from online hot topic store, but that's about it. I met up with some friends the other day at the mall to watch Scream, and we went to a few shops including Hot Topic, Vans, Zumiez, Spencers. Hot Topic still looks pretty grungy and gothic depending on your location, and since 90s fashion is back in style, they have some cool shit to keep the Zoomers and TikTok kids happy.

Feels weird to me for anyone to still be labeling it a goth store considering at least in my area for like a decade now my local HT stores have well over half their store focused on anime/superhero/etc. shirts/merch, then maybe 15-20% music band shirts, and maybe a little bit of goth-style clothing with whatever space is left.

If they're like me they haven't really been in a mall in quite a few years. I honestly forgot this store existed.

These girls are like unicorns, most goths are nowhere near this hot unless you're looking at suicide girls website

Na, Goth chicks are still out there and plenty of them. They just don't need to go to dying malls or "soho" alt shops to get their look. They can do that in the comfort of their own homes now. Just hashtag gothgirl / goth into any social media. All that raven hair and fish nets goodness.

Its all about the music, the taste in music, there are quite a number of goths still around and new generation as well 18+. I myself am proficient in the realm of deathrock/goth/post punk music, aesthetics and subculture. I have friends whom range 18 to 60 in the subculture. The stereotype of a goth girl as you mentioned is not necessarily a real one. If you happen upon someone that likes any bands such as Bauhaus, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Joy Division, UK Decay, Christian Death, Sisters Of Mercy, Twin Tribes, Drab Majesty, Light Asylum, Moira Scar, 45 Grave, London After Midnight, Lifeless Past, Ashes Fallen, Roadside Memorial, Altar de Fey, Alien Sex Fiend, Egrets On Ergot, The Frozen Autumn, All Gone Dead, Burning Image, and Tragic Black to name as much as I did, thats about right around the realm of connecting with the interests of most goths. If looking for a "goth chick" be open minded about their personality and whats inside their heart and mind, the aesthetics is a perk of self expression. I know by experience in dating as well. I currently been with the same partner for 6 years. She was more like a punk pop/emo-pop scene girl in her younger days way before we met, yet she was always into Siouxsie and The Banshees and Joy Division as she had told me when we first started dating. She happened to like alot of Goth bands and more over time. By what I noticed is that there are individuals that may be into some music and subculture, then branch out, some had become into goth after being into Punk/Hardcore, Metal, or even the "emo-pop"/scene kid thing. Going to goth clubs or where the bands of the style perform live at is the best way to meet them.

And if these were not enough, they now have Platform Crocs that if you spike and stud them up they be like Demonias lol

I think they are more referencing that most goth girls got about 80lbs+ on this girl.

This isn't what Hot Topic is anymore. Yeah, it does still have a section for band shirts in the back, but it's mostly weeb stuff now. Like Sailor Moon backpacks and Funko pops and shit.

You made the mistake of thinking Hot Topic's core ethos was a store for punks and goths, rather than a store for suburban sad children. Punk is dead, sad teens aren't going anywhere. They just like different shit now.

Hot Topic may die, but Spencer gifts will live on after the apocalypse
It's still the only mainstream place I know of that you can walk in and buy a dildo. That's gotta count for something.

Then again, the old saying goes: Anything's a dildo if you're brave enough
