And I'm glad, too. This movie epitomizes 'sequel disappointment.'

From opening weekend to second weekend, "The Ring" saw a 23.1% increase in it's take, due to great word of mouth ($15 million to $18.5 million) It's sequel (which was an exceptionally horrible follow-up to the greatest horror movie, IMO), saw a 60.6% drop in its take from opening weekend to its second week ($35 million to $13.8 million)

And if you haven't already heard: STAY AWAY FROM THIS MOVIE. If you're a fan of "The Ring," don't ruin your perception of it by seeing this shit.

....might as well post the rest of the box office:

1. Guess Who, $21-million.

2. Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous, $14.5-million.

3. The Ring 2, $13.8-million.

4. Robots, $13-million.

5. The Pacifier, $8.5-million.

6. Hitch, $4.3-million.

7. Hostage, $4.1-million.

8. Ice Princess, $3.7-million.

9. Be Cool, $2.85-million.

10. Million Dollar Baby, $2.6-million

How much did The Ring make overall?

And a bit of topic, but how much did "Million Dollar Baby" make? Saw it yesterday and it was very nice (tough some parts sickned me because they were so well done)

The original Ring movies are the best anyway.
My interest is piqued by the American version of The Grudge though. I hear it's not too hard to watch and like both versions.

It's not uncommon for horror movies to be poorly reviewed, have strong first weekends then drop off substantially the next week.

The U.S. Ring was an exception to that rule.

You know, that phenomenon is by no means exclusive to (or even primarily linked to) the horror genre...

You're right, but genre films have particularly short legs, unless they find a crossover audience, which it seems Ring 2 has sucessfully ditched.

The Ring 2 was one of the worst horror movies I've ever seen. Seriously, what the fuck was the deal with that stupid "deer scene"?
