World of Darkness 20th Anniversary

So I'm reading through Wraith: The Oblivion 20th Anniversary edition pdf and wow does this bring back memories!

What a splendid, well done book. It has all the rules in one book with all the alternate Arcanos and Guilds, playing Spectres, rules to play Risen (inhabiting your dead body as a ghost to exact revenge i.e. The Crow), Orpheus rules, etc.

Also got the pdf of Mage 20th Anniversary, one of my favorite ttrpgs of all time and imo the best representation of Mages ever to bless an RPG.

Last night was nostalgic af as I read through Wraith. They kept everything intact and added a few new things.

I'm so blown away I feel like I'm dragged back into this universe. The original World of Darkness is one of, if not, my favorite settings of all time and reminds me so much of the 90s.

Anyone else out there a fan?

My favorites are Mage, Wraith and Changeling.

Keep in mind I'm talking about the old World of Darkness, not that seemingly generic reboot that came out in the 2000s.

I think MetalAlien MetalAlien first met me in the 90s when I was really into it.

Too bad I could never get you into it, Alien. Think of every type of horror movie creature or trope all sharing the same world (multiverse too since you can count the three layers of the Umbra, etc)

I even briefly did Werewolf LARPing in the woods in the mountains. I played a Stargazer Garou.

Btw the only old WoD I couldn't get into was Demon: The Fallen. Something felt so out of place there. I did like Hunter, Mummy and Kindred of the East though.

I hope the upcoming Werewolf game is good.

One of my favorite books of any tabletop RPG are those going in-depth about the different planes and realms outside of our own.

The World of Darkness, especially Mage: The Ascension, is no exception.

Even the Kindred have their city of Enoch located in the depths of the Dark Umbra, the abode of the Wraiths, Spectres and worse.

Of course we cannot forget the Garou and their never ending fight across the Middle Umbra against the Wyrm.

What you have here is one of the best, most fleshed out cosmologies of any game besides maybe Planescape.

Ha the main guy from that trailer looks like Matthew Mchaney from Reign Of Fire.

Ha ha it kind of does.

I hope the game is good. It's kind of under the radar.

I don't know how many of you are familiar with the setting but it sort of has something for everyone.

Even if you do not like horror, you will probably find something you like. For instance something in Mage or Changeling.

For instance, Mage has a lot of sci-fi elements and Changeling, a lot of obvious fantasy or faerie tale themes. The latter is pretty much modern faerie tales like Labyrinth.

I was up until 4am the other night reading this.

I had the original book - Dirty Secrets of the Black Hand - but this is much needed revision. It sort of takes the whole 'Vissicitude is an alien from the Deep Umbra' but actually expands on it and still leaves the idea it's some kind of dark intelligence, open.

Fwiw, one reason I love all this is because I'm a huge fan if Wraith: The Oblivion and they do a better job of merging the two here.

This, imo, is one of those 5 out of 5 supplements for me.

So this World of Darkness series is a book series that tells a continuous story in three different settings in books but ties everything together for an RPG board game right? And there are also video games for it on PC? The wiki page was kind of confusing

I’ve never read a supernatural horror before, maybe I did when I was young in some Goosebumps tale, but never read anything like that before that I can recall... Is it similar to Stephen King’s horror?
