I'm guessing that was PSP-Gameplay Footage shown, but its obvious that the game probably will be better on the DS.

Dunno about that, the lack of pixels available on the DS screen has really hurt the look of the worms. They should have gone for the original worms instead of the mangled worms - worms 2 bloaty head crossbreed.

It surprised me that the worms were at all different, but they are. Not that its immediately obvious.

At first impression the DS shots just looked like cropped down shots of the PSP ones. And in a way, they sort of are: PSP backgrounds are clearer and animated, DS ones are blurred for an out-of-focus effect, but they do seem to be the same backgrounds! And, all of the foreground landmass/texture seems to be the same across both games as well. Obviously the PSP will have nicer explosion effects n' what not...

what matters most to me is whether Team 17 will have taken care of touch screen control. That is OBVIOUSLY what makes this a contender for greatness on DS... I hope they haven't fucked it up.

Neither has online play, I'll pass.

I mean come on, the N-Gage version had online play for crying out loud.

I may actually buy this on DS instead of PSP due to the controls. O_o

Are there links to DS screenshots?

2D worms FTW.

I'm certainly looking forward to this game, but do you think they could've possibly made that video window on JeuxFrance any smaller?

WTF? Are those really DS shots? Looks like they didn't give a shit what the end result was there. Initiate graphics downgrade algorithm then publish.

edit: Hm. Horrible jpeg artifacting aswell of course.

The PSP version looks so good that they have to put in a "IN-GAME" clarification on the screenshots

Go PSP :D

No online sucks. If they can pull out some of the old voice themes, PSP would be infinitely better for presentation purposes. Speeded up pulp fiction clips and south park clips made this a great game with friends. Nothing was better then hitting your teammate and having the Jules clip saying 'I'll never forgive your ass for this shit'.

But the control scheme will probably be perfect for DS. I'm looking for it.

Edit: Wait, WTF? Why no online? Seriously. Who signed off on that?

From one of the Team17 guys on their forums:

Actually, I run the studio these days, I'm not an engineer "on the front line", but tend to give replies that give a general drift of the situation.

For Worms PSP and infrastructure mode it was as simple as this is in europe - the libraries and support code to deliver what some of you expected simply wasn't there when we needed it to be.

We've had enough problems supporting some features of Lemmings (regarding user levels) never mind infrastructure mode in Worms - and Lemmings is a SCEE product where we've worked with them extremely closely.

We got there in the end with Lemmings, but for Worms we were on a very tight deadline and adding Infrastructure mode play for Worms would have taken us way beyond that - and unless our publisher makes that call, it doesn't go in.

For the record, both Lemmings & Worms are now "gold" (for want of a better phrase, given UMD media) although both are now in submission/test at SCEE (awaiting approval) before their release in the Spring.

For DS, the same situation was present, i.e. lack of usable libraries and actual methodology via Nintendo at the time of development (the DS version is in final throes before submission too). I know Mario Kart has wireless, but the small point of this being driven by Nintendo (and all the support that musters) should be enough information as to why we didnt' have it.

Ok..

I also note that Nintendo are bemoaning that many players are quitting when losing and there's nothing you can do - and nothing to repremand the players that do it.

Oh boo hoo.

I might grab this for DS if any of my friends get it.

It would be great if this game were to offer Game Sharing on PSP, or whatever the equivalent feature is called on DS (where local Wi-Fi multiplayer games can be played using only one physical copy of the game). Then you wouldn't need to worry about whether any of your friends get it, as long as at least one member of your group gets it. :)

They'll probably set it up so you could play a multiplayer game on a single system, with players passing around the system in between turns. But, it might not be easy for everyone to watch the screen when someone is taking his turn.

What would also be great is if there was a way for DS and PSP users to play multiplayer games together. But, I doubt Nintendo and Sony would want that.

I'm thinking the DS version has multiple control schemes because in those DS screen shots the action is on the top screen, ie not the touch screen.
You can select which weapon you want by touching it though, doesn't that count for something?
