Just wondering if Marathon would have more interest if it offered PvE only modes. The AI seems pretty aggressive and could scale up based on time in zone, or faction quests complete.

I'm neutral, so I can't really make a selection. I was interested in hearing more about Marathon, and now that I have, I personally feel whelmed and hesitant. I still wanna give the alpha an honest shot to see if anything clicks. But aside from the in your face art style and aesthetic, it sounds like a lot of the mechanics and core components are extremely familiar. The weapons, the abilities, the core game loop, everything.

So, if there were PvE only modes, I can't say it would entice me anymore at the moment. Because there's plenty of games available right now that have PvE experiences that are great and stand on their own. Much like there are extraction shooters that are great and stand on their own.

I look forward to checking out the alpha to come to my own conclusion.

If they changed it to more pure deathmatch like gameplay, muted the color scheme, made some diverse body shapes, gave a robot pronouns and added lots of out of date Guardians of the Galaxy style humor I'd probably buy it.

That's an untapped market for sure, but this game with its garish aesthetic and horrible loot/inventory windows that look worse than WoW 20 years ago is doing nothing for me, even if reviews and sells well.

I think that would turn it into a completely different kind of game. Given enough time, a PvE only experience can be broken and cheesed to the point where any challenge only comes down to "have you watched the latest 'how to speed run this map' video?"

Can't cheese your way out of a fight against a better player or a better team though.

My friend group loves us some PvE. We've all put our time in with sweaty PvP, and we're all pretty much over it. We prefer co-op PvE.

I would need to try it in both modes. I do like the idea of being able to jump people before they extract though sounds fun.

I'm not even considering playing a PvE extraction shooter right now, it'll get boring way too fast if the AI stays as dull as it is

Enemy AI in most games is still incredibly underwhelming, it's rare that I'm ever genuinely surprised by their tactics

For a team based extraction shooter to stay engaging, enemy AI needs a serious evolution

I'm a destiny 2 fan. I'm the target market.

Nobody is buying this shit.

If it had a full fledged SP campaign by Bungie then hell yeah, but that's like asking "if you boyfriend was rich instead of poor would you marry him?"

PvP kept me playing Destiny. I probably spent 3500 hours in Crucible/Trials out of the 5000 hours I've played Destiny.

I've waited for a great extraction shooter on console to come around. DMZ was great but no support for 2 years has left it in a terrible state.

I'll buy Marathon day 1.

The short movie made me simply want a straight campaign.
Put Destiny/Halo-esc co-op and im solid.

If the campaign is good maybe I stick around for the MP stuff.

I think they should have a PvE "league" like tarkov where it's a separate persistent stash from pvp. They could throw in some buffed enemies or bot controlled runners. I don't see why not. Unless you have a 3 man squad you are going to be perpetually disadvantaged.

If it has PvE modes I would be more interested
I have no problem with traditional pvp, but these extraction shooters were you can lose your gear? Feels like it becomes a griefing simulator. Not interested in that.

There is an 'emptiness' to MP only games when you play them solo against bots. The game offers nothing more than competition. Not lore, not world building, not NPCs or even a decent background or a storyline worth a damn. This not going to be like destiny 2 which actually has depth.

It absolutely should have been PvE, it should have just been a remake of the original trilogy. It LITERALLY should have been Playstations System Shock/Prey whatever, a immersive sim.
As it stands, the game could still be good IF the content is there. The shooting looks like typical Bungie polished, smooth with good feedback and movement, so you never know, it could end up being THE Extraction Shooter. Personally think it will be good, review decently, but sell averagely.
Big but is if it means a genuine Marathon Trilogy remake then so be it.
