this is not hygienic,

but I've tried Indian street food mixes at cleaner places, quite delicious and a frequent craving of mine.

Hmm i'll pass, i don't find the risk of cholera or dysentry that appealing. Street food where the population shit on the floor in those same streets isn't somewhere i'd want to eat anything.

It's bad enough how gross that looks.

But imagine being the last customer he serves at the end of the day. Those hands wont be washed all day.

On the one hand, the local populations eat that stuff and survive - it isn’t the instant death some people here think it is.

On the other hand, my stomach isn’t that strong and it would be instant death for the rest of my day.

But i work in close contact with kitchens from many many places and if you think that your average restaurant is cleaner than that, you're a fool.

Always thanks your god of choice that you can't watch the people who make your meals.
I used to work in a three star hotel in Tenerife, and when you turned on the light in the kitchen at night, literally thousands of cockroaches would run away from the light. You know when you used to turn on a TV and you had no reception and had black and white noise on the screen? That's how the floor at that place looked like when you came into the kitchen. I remember there was a dead cockroach that had been smashed between the door and the chassis of the microwave, and they left it like that for like like two months. Cockroaches on Tenerife are just nuts, they're EVERYWHERE in the coastal areas.

Sure Italy has cockroaches, too, but when you see Tenerife mentioned as plagued by American cockroaches on the wikipedia page about those suckers, you know shit's real xD

I would be careful with eating anything related to Indian street food but here in China I eat street food a looooot of times. Never caught anything, never had a problem, and they're fucking delicious.

There's a reason many Asian cultures give a different status to left and right hands, you're not supposed to touch food with your left hand specifically because it's the one you use in the toilets.

It's not like those cultures are unaware of hygiene, they just have different ways of dealing with it.

As for the video in OP, I have no doubt it may be just as healthy as any other food stand in the country. If I were to visit I'd be cautious as a general rule, but not specifically because of the way the guy is touching the food.
As a pure lefty, I had a few weird stares traveling in North Africa when forgetting to use my right hand.
Talking about western hygiene, in France in the last 10 years there has been more and more place where they put on glove to serve you, bakeries for example, but half the time the cashier will take your money in his gloved hand and serves you after with the same hand…

Hell no. Where the gloves at, homie?

I have worked in restaurants and washed my hands religiously in part because of the responsibility inherent to handling people's food. I did what I would want an employee in my position to do if they were serving me.
Everyone knows a whopper doesn’t taste nearly as good unless your chef puts a finger in his ass beforehand.
R U Sure about that?

You know cooks in the states and Europe use there hands and touch your food all the time. Probably more of a chance in usa or euro of a cook scratching there ass then your food.

I'd eat Indian food but never eat it in India. Or be in India for that matter.

Why did you decide to bump a 4 month old thread about Indian street food? Serious question. Honestly, I'm actually really intrigued.

I absolutely LOVE street food. But yeah, you have to know your own limitations as well. Some stuff, we just can't eat. It will blow you up and ruin your trip.
