Wow... fire the new Sony ad guy!

These new PSP commercials are absolutely fucking terrible!! What about the PSP has anything to do with grafitti? Shouldn't that be Nintendo's gimmick, since you can draw shit on your DS with the lovable stylus? I thought Sony was going for the 'sleek, sophisticated, this isn't a toy for kiddies' angle with PSP? Sony is trying to sell PSP's this Christmas season, for christs sake. Nothing says "BUY THIS PORTABLE!" like grafitti-designed chipmunks and squirrels talking like a couple of meth heads.


I hope whatever assclown came up with this marketing idea (which is arguably worse than the 360 'teaser' commercials) is nowhere near the advertising drawing boards upon PlayStation 3 release.
 
Yeah, I'm not sure who thought these were a good idea, either. There's another one with two balls of hair talking.
 
Possibly a participant of 'The Candidate'.
They got an assignement to market Gran Turismo 4 and the girl decided to make a car graffiti in Harlem. Jack Tretton was not pleased. Donald Trumph: 'You're fired!'
 
I saw that commercial with the squirrel screaming "HELLYA!" Really really retarded.

They also have a commercial out though with the spinning PSP with Movies, Music, and Games which I thought did a much better job at selling it.

Ya and then they have that commercial with those guys tossing a PSP to eachother. Its like they play the PSP for 5 seconds, get bored, and chuck it out the window. Stupid commercial IMO.
 
There is this Playstation ad (dunno if only in Germany) where a guy travels down a road while just standing still (stop-motion technique) and there are cereals at the beginning and the end. And the slogan is like: "For all velocities in life" or something.
And in the background plays some kind of minimalistic electronic chillout music. WHATS THAT TRACK CALLED?


I'll see if I can find it.....
 
Nah, I like the new Sony ad guy. Thanks to those PSP commercials, I immediately went out and bought a DS. I owe him one.
 
My crude PSP commercial- in spoilers for those easily offended:

Front shot, medium distance of a Patrick Bateman-esque Wall Street guy pounding a girl in the bum, his arms resting on her back, PSP in his hands. She's moaning, he's grunting with frustration, arms begin to move side-to-side like when your dad tries to play a video game and thinks moving the controller (or in this case, a PSP) actually affects the gameplay, finally screams out "F*CKING HOMING MIS-ISLES!" - SONY PSP logo/phrase concludes

Simple, affective, crude, pretty terrible, but it gets the point across much better than some damned woodland animals.
 
I wanted to start a thread about this last night, but I was afraid of the "troll" cries. These are really bad, and aren't helping the PSP.

Humor appeals? Not funny.
Target market reached? Not really.

The music ones with multiple functions shown are great, IMO. It shows gameplay, music, movies, all in one commercial. I'm talking about the commercial in which the PSP gets tossed across town. Really good stuff.

I mean, it's so blatantly avant garde that I can't help but feel not retarded. I was like, what the hell is this?!? And then it was a PSP commercial and I was like...YOU JUST BLEW MY MIND.

But I already have one, so FISSION MAILED.

:lol That's exactly what I thought when I saw it, they just tried to cram too many different groups of people in that and created a huge lack of screentime for each one. "Oh neat a PSP, next!" Just terrible.
 
Yeah, that was pretty much the worst thing I've ever seen ever, and Liu Kang Baking A Pie is still a frequent poster.

Worst commercial ever created.

I like the one with the hairballs because unlike previous ads it actually shows the damned games. Socom and Kingdom of Paradise IIRC. Better than the jivey morphing guy with no gameplay commercial they had near launch.

Also, Best Buy now has PSP demo units. ZOMG! Nine months later I see one in person. Too bad the games on display were Hot Shots Golf Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. . . and The Con.

Incidentally the XBox2 kiosk was off. LAUGHS ALL AROUND! :P
 
Yeah WTF took Sony so fcuking long to put PSP demos in stores? I seen DS's in stores on launch day
 
We finally get a PSP demo unit and all they have is The Con which is abysmal. Why?

Get GTA:LCS or a UMD demo compilation in there and sell some systems!

Exactly what i thought. "This thing sucks, toss it"

There's one with squirrels that, though i can't stand the squirrels, the whole ad shows gameplay... at least that's a good thing

I spent more time watching the game load than I did playing it. "The Con" indeed.

Gangstas and graffiti = cool.

Joe Casual sitting at home sees the ad and immediately has a desire to be just as, if not cooler than the people in the ad.

And...that's pretty much it.
 
The funny thing is the advertising seems targeted towards people that don't have the disposable income to blow $250 on a portable gaming system.
 
Saw the dustball ad the other day on TV... was pretty confused up until the end of it, I had no idea it was a PSP commercial. It *WAS* memorable though, which overall is the whole point of advertising. Hell it beats the crap out of the GB Micro commercial which looked more like a Target ad than anything :lol
