Oh much is that like 700$?

$500. A stone's throw away from 60GB iPod Photo (although twice as big in all directions), and the same price as the iRiver and Creative devices, which has much lower res (320x240) and only 16 bit color screens.

And people bitch about the PSP's price... this puppy doesn't even play games ;-)

On a serious note though, why go to all the effort building this baby and then have such restrictive media playback? WHY NO WMV, DIVX, etc etc? It should also play back WMA - I have an increasing WMA library because WMP10 rips CDs to this format on your hard disc.

This thing is a Portable Windows Media Player platform and then some! Maybe it's huge screen wouldn't play nice with the OS for those players, so maybe they decided to nix the whole WMV/A angle entirely.

Lack of WMV support seems a bit odd, but given the fact that visual imperfections like artifacts are less noticeable on a small screen, transcoding your files to any of the included formats should look pretty good, unless your source file was poor to begin with.

wmp10 also rips to Mp3 if you select it.

4:3 screen is a bit sucky, but the size and res are v.nice.

Remember who this is for. It's for professional photographers. They take pictures in 4:3.

Besides, I'd take 640x480 over 480x272 any day of the week.

I just returned the 40GB iPod and ordered this baby at my local CompUSA through their biz sales guy for $606 (including tax and 2 year accidental coverage). I'm spending money like a fiend on electronic in the last couple of weeks. And I still have yet to buy the Cintiq 21UX next month! Someone needs to intervent or something......
