Who the hell does that?!! o_O

So I asked someone to help me out with this artist fellowship I'm trying for it is highly competitive. (The National Endowment for the Arts is one of the sponsors)

I need letters of Recommendations

I only need two.

I have 4 choices.

A Gallery Owner.
A Doctor
The Mayor
A Congressman

Ok. Here's how this has to work. You write the letter; make it really
exceptional and then I will sign it. Really swamped but want to help of
course.

This sucks! I hate having to write things about myself.
I understand she is a very busy person and all but it kinda takes out the legitimacy of the Letter.

Heh. If you do it, go to the grave with that secret :)

If the people who required the LORs find out, they'll repeal any pending funds and I've seen several cases where they will ask for any issued money back.

I have heard of people asking candidates to provide a list of accomplishments or a brief refresher on their background before writing a letter of recommendation, and that's probably OK from an ethical point of view. People often ARE busy, and since you know the evaluation criteria better than they do, it can be very helpful to steer the letter writer in the right direction. For example, if the position asking for the LOR is a managerial role, and you ask your pastor to write the letter, it would be acceptable to ask him to discuss your leadership of the yearly fundraiser, or remind him that you doubled the amount raised over the last two years.

However, writing the text of the letter is a VERY bad idea. Even if there are no specific rules against the practice, it is a bad choice from an ethical point of view. I would ask the person if they would be willing to write the letter themselves, given some bullet point style input from you, or solicit someone else on your list who has more time.

Yeah... it is done I hear of it all the time. But writing this is not my style.
I want to know that I got in because I deserved it not because I wrote my way in.

I'll write it for you.

Smiles and Cries is good. He likes Nintendogs. They are cute. Please hire him.

:lol :lol :lol

It is not a Job though.

It is to study art and culture in Japan for 6 months. :)

I want it badly but not bad enough to write my own letter.
I will ask the others on my list, that was the Gallery Owner.

I can try the Mayor

The Doctor is very busy but have been a long time supporter of my work.

This is why you always ask someone who knows you really well to write a recommendation so they know what to say about you. Even then, some people are just lazy bastards and will still ask you to write it. It is pretty standard for some people to ask you to write it, but they don't want you making up stuff, though they don't mind you making yourself look good. And from my experience there is usually some editing done as well.

I'm trying to read your response but your Avatar :lol

I have to check if they only want letters from fellow Artists and people in the Arts, that is my only problem now waiting to the reply and I will ask others who know me better.

The doctor will do it, she knows me very well.

No doubt it is hard to believe the word of anyone who is a fan of Jordan, but trust me when I say that I did not choose this thing of my own volition.

Is this not the way it is always done? I've seen a resume that state Letters of reference will be written by me if required. Instead of your standard available upon request. We even hired the guy.

It is strange to hear all of this... So thats how it is?

Write whatever you want. Say you're the greatest student/person this signee has ever met. Seriously, if s/he says they'll sign it, and they said write whatever, then they have to write it.

Take advantage of her offer. Ask a good friend who's a good writer and give him/her the main points about your relationship and ask them to write the letter from the Gallery Owner point of view.
