WTF happened to BioShock?

So the psudeo sequal to System Shock 2 by Irrational Games has just kinda disappeared since it was announced on Gamespot a couple months ago. WTF is going on with it? Is it still alive? I wonder if they can't find a publisher.

Kinda hard to find a publisher for an exclusive PC title.

FFvsTR and SWAT 4 didn't do that well either :(
And Tribes: V? ~100K copies sold? How low can you go?

Stupid PC gamers, buying only HL2, WoW and BF2.

It pains me, rips my flesh even to say this but Irrational should go for the simplified console market if they want to stay afloat. You don't make big bucks in the PC area if you aren't Valve, id, Epic, BioWare or Blizzard.

It's quite silly from an economic standpoint at this point to release a PC exclusive FPS, except the likes of bf2 (which might be hard to do on a console) since consoles and PCs are already very similar now and most of the bottlenecks that have been plaguing consoles will be gone. Even a one year late and graphically inferior port of doom 3 sold 1 million copies on a console which doesn't even have the largest base.. Even if you can sell 100-150k worldwide on ps3 and xbox 360 each, that's quite a big boost in income and will more than cover the porting cost.

And the dumbing down thing is just an illusion I think. There's a healthy console base that does buy more complicated games.

you think with the popularity of games like Halo 2 and Doom 3, that they would be willing to do a console SKU.

Borys and I have argued about this in the past. I don't think console games are inherently dumbed down- just the opposite. There's some stuff on the consoles as deep and complex as the most stat laden PC title. But, a lot of games suffer from portitis, especially console titles that get put on the PC because a little reworking of the Xbox code nets the publisher another 20k units sold.

Still, a lot of games really shine on the PC versus the consoles, or vice versa, and I put System Shock 2 firmly in that camp. All that PDA reading and hotkeying items would be a nightmare on a game pad.

I hope these guys are able to get Bioshock made. SS2 is one of my favorite games ever, and I'd love to see a sequel, "spiritual" or otherwise.

But what if they started making design decisions based on other console fpses and decided to go with a game easier to pick up and play than the SS games? We don't need another Deus Ex: Invisible War :(
