WTF happened to San Andreas??

I loved the whole first few hours of San Andreas, and I don't even like rap or any of that. I'm more of a metalhead. :D Anyways, I just loved the experience of driving around with "homies" killing all that oppose. Now, about 30 or 40 hours later, it sucks. Right after I was dropped off at Angel Pine it went downhill. What happened? The missions seemed to get lame, it wasn't nearly as cool. I'm now about 5 missions away from beating the main story, and I don't have any potential to beat it. :( I mean, stealing the Hydra and jet pack and stuff was cool, but WTF?

I don't want to finish SA.
 
I felt the same way, man. I got up to the Caligula's Casino heist and lost interest. It was no longer about rolling with my homies, so I found it harder to stay interested. I absolutely loved the "ghetto" portion of the game though. Nothing else like that anywhere. Riding bikes around, robbing houses, capping suckaz, etc. That shit was awesome. Then it just got lost on me. Though Catalina was cool. :)

Heck no..GTA is the only one of the 3 I DID finish... I just don't feel the need to announce to the f'n world about it.

Most people don't make it a regular point to post "hay guys this game sucks don't you agree?" topics; why should this one get cut any slack?
 
Well i can top that TeTr1C. I bought a PSTwo just to play GTA:SA, and after playign it for a week or so, i haven't turned on the machine in over two months....

The heist is a side quest, and the last few missions of the game are all about rollin with your homies..

I haven't felt compelled to beat any of the GTA games. Not because I don't enjoy them, but because to me the missions are only a means for opening up the rest of the map. Once that's done, the plot is dead to me and it's time to wreak havoc of biblical proportions.

Why would I continue to go around completing tedious and annoying missions when there is no more real or enjoyable reward?
 
GTA SA could have benefited from having the whole city open and allowing you to take different missions in different cities from the get go. The intial part with the homies was awesome, I wish in every city you had a crew you could roll with and your homies were all over the state instead of one city.

After RE4 I need to finish that game.
 
Right after I was dropped off at Angel Pine it went downhill.

Funny, because right when I got dropped off at Angel Pine is when I realized San Andreas was GOTY. Driving through the countryside or by the coast on a hog listening to country watching the sun set makes it one of the most unique experinces in gaming history.
 
the missions in the game were the most disappointing aspect to me. i'd rather they'd just allow you to go all over the place and do anything at the start of the game instead of having to beat missions. i'd gladly just wander around and kill things for 30-50 hours.
 
GTA3 is one of my favorite games of all time, and I never beat it. I really liked SA, and I only got to about 70% complete. You don't have to beat such a long and expansive game to enjoy it. Just play how you like to play the most. Whenever I play GTA3, I do vigilante missions, because that's the aspect of the game I enjoy most. For SA, it's gambling in the casino and flying around.

I love the game, and I do drive around and do stuff, but of course it gets boring with no missions. This is the worst story out of all of them IMO. Vice City hit it directly.
 
i just traded SA in and bought RE4 the other day. i got to the casino and suddenly i knew i was finished with it. the missions in the second half of the game are lame and tedious. the zero missions were so bad that i couldn't forgive rockstar for putting them in, even if they weren't mandatory. later in the game it seems like every mission has three or four steps you have to go through and most of them aren't any fun. when i first started playing it, i thought SA was the bomb... and i still think i got my moneys worth out of it, but eventually the little flaws built up and wore me out.
 
I just got the game for Xmas, myself. I'm still doing missions in San Fierro, but I'm still having a pretty good time.

A few random comments, though (keep in mind that I've never played VC)...

What was so bad about Zero's missions? Are there more after the first three you do to get his shop as an Asset? The middle one (where you're flying around and blowing up the couriers) gave me a little trouble with the fuel limit, but once I figured out a good order to hit the targets in, I had it done after a few more attempts. His first mission was seriously simple, and I found his last one to be a neat change of pace after dealing with drug lords and such.

Along those lines, my main problem so far has been the serious lack of difficulty in the missions. I just finished the one where you've got to swim out to that barge and plant a bug for Woozie, and the only missions I've had to try more than once was Zero's second one, and the one where you and OG Loc are chasing the guy on a bike. I didn't realize until a few attempts in that it was impossible to kill him until he got to his destination, so I didn't concentrate so much on staying within firing range.

There also could have been more missions in Los Santos, too. Just as I was getting into the missions there, they were over. Although it was nice to not have the huge amount of simple "tutorial" missions up front like there were in GTA3.

The turf war stuff was neat, and it was a great way to build up the weapon skills on the SMG and AK47. It also made a nice source of income once you captured a good amount of area. Of course, now all that work I put into it seems to have been erased, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to eventually have turf wars in SF. If nothing else, they really helped you recognize different areas.

At first, I thought that the spraypainting stuff would be equivalent to the packages in GTA3, with me getting free weapons and such at my hideouts after getting a certain amount. I've found 25 tags so far, and haven't seen any benefit. Also, is there any other place to get spraypaint or a camera other than at CJ's house in LS? I've long since lost the camera I got in a mission, and the game hinted that there's something "special" to do with it in SF, yet I don't feel like having to trudge all the way back to LS every time I die or get busted.

I love the flying, though. Tooling around in the little remote controlled Red Baron was pretty fun once I got the hang of the controls (is there any way to get one without a time limit?), and I snagged a helicopter earlier today after doing some creative truck placement and jumping to sneak into the SF airport. After struggling with the Dodo's controls in GTA3, just flying around and seeing familiar territory from a new perspective was just cool. Too bad all of the planes at the airport were locked, though :(.
 
Heh, I have the GTA Double Pack for Xbox, and I (coincidently enough) only got 33% into both games. I guess I got bored with a mission and started messing around, and then that's all I did. Sooo many more hours of doing nothing than doing missions, for sure.

well you must be a better gamer than me.... i did that middle mission so many times i lost count before i finally beat it. The way the plane controlled was unforgivable... the fuel limit was way too harsh, and the random way the vehicles spread out made it impossible to have a reliable game plan. i did the mission perfect several times and still ended up running out of fuel just a few feet from my landing point. i came to the conclusion that it was pure luck. the final vehicle you attacked had to be close enough to the building to allow you to get back on your remaining fuel and that was randomly determined depending on the path it took. i honestly think that mission is the main reason i stopped playing the game. after i finished it, i never enjoyed the game in the same way. i was completley burnt out, i probably should have just left it alone.
 
San Andreas is awesome, but it in the end the game became too freaking huge for its own good. I did finish it, though. :P

Really? That's too bad. Had they resurfaced sometime before Las Venturas, I might have bothered finishing it before I traded it in for Baten Kaitos. Turf wars were the spice that made Los Santos so fun to play in, the general geography of San Fierro made its missions exciting (lameass Zero missions excluded) ... but between the late Truth missions and the first few LV missions, the whole thing just fizzled out.

Maybe it was the boring, flat environment of LV (#1 reason I hated Vice City) or the fact that I had to level my gambling skill to play fucking Blackjack. Either way, the mission structure had begun to wear down to the point of tedious and the pacing was just bad. One mistake and its a nine mile drive to pick up the drunken Brits again.

I may go back and finish it later, before DMC3 hits, but I got better games to play right now..

What did you find so hard about it? I admit, it did feel a little floaty at first. Maybe it's all the practice flying floaty planes in BF1942, but I got used to it pretty quickly. The biggest thing to remember is that moving the stick to the left and right doesn't turn the plane like it would a car, but rolls it instead. So to do a turn, you need to roll the plane to the side a little bit, then pull back on the stick, or use the rudder control (L2/R2) for a more shallow turn.

I do agree with you about the fuel limit being a bit low. Before I had a good order down, I would knock out the targets as soon as I got to them, yet still would run out a few blocks before the roof (it was always right when the baseball fields would come into view).

However, I'm pretty sure that the vehicle spread isn't random. The starting points are all definitely the same, and the couriers all tend to hang out near the area they start in. I found that taking out the first three targets correctly is essential to completing the mission:

First, you take out the van that's right in front of the starting point. Since the driver will always get out to shoot at you once he knows you're there, it's best to start firing from a distance to get him out of his car early, then just fly straight towards him with guns blazing. This will kill him pretty quickly.

Then, fly straight to the west towards the other van that's near your starting point (NOT towards the bike which is actually closer to your current position). This makes your current flight path from the starting point almost a straight line. Once you get to the second van, don't shoot at it until you're really close to it. None of the couriers will start shooting back or running until you fire on them, so when you're attacking ones that don't leave their vehicles, it's best not to shoot until you're right on top of them, as the machine gun bullets spread out quite a bit. If you did it right, you'll have taken out the first two targets in about ten seconds.

Next, turn around and head straight to the east. By this time, the guy on the bike will have turned west, and be most likely headed straight at you. Like the first target, he'll walk around and try and shoot you once you hit him, so start shooting from a distance and he'll be down quickly.

Once you get that down, you can have the first three targets destroyed REALLY quickly, leaving plenty of time to fly all the way up north for the last two (on my last two attempts, I hit half fuel just as I was killing target #4). The problem is that the last two targets are tougher to kill, especially the two guys on the motorcycle. They have really good accuracy, and start to run as soon as you hit them. I ended up just landing the plane behind them and opening fire at point blank range and hitting the gas so I could keep up. As soon as they burst into flames, get out of there to reduce the amount of damage they do to you (they'll keep shooting until they explode).

WTF happened to San Andreas? I set it aside after first getting 100% and then spending some time having fun with the cheat codes! :D

Anyone getting bored with the main story and whatnot might want to take a break and mess around with the cheats. I turned on the pedestrian riot/weapons/hate you codes, and then picked a series of landmarks to photograph and went on a tourist jaunt with a self-imposed time limit. I also used the BMX bike super high jump code and found a couple routes jumping from building to building to get to the top of the tallest skyscraper in Los Santos. Then there's stunt flying/air combat with the harrier with the faster game speed cheat turned on. Lots of stuff to do if you apply a little imagination. Just make sure you don't save with cheats enabled!

As for Supply Lines, I really don't get the complaints about the difficulty. I finished it on my third attempt, with my flight skill only at about 20%. First try, I ran out of fuel since I was getting used to the more sensitive controls of the RC plane as opposed to the normal planes. Second try, I took too long to line up with the fourth enemy and got shot down. I had noticed by this time that the enemies behaved the exact same way every time, and the three closest to the base were the easiest, so I started my third attempt by going north instead and taking out the two aggressive guys first. Then I hit the remaining ones in whatever order they were closest and landed with a good quarter tank of fuel to spare. I thought the mission was a lot of fun. I guess if more people played Sky Odyssey and Dropship, they'd be more adjusted to using a light touch on the control in tight spaces and taking out ground targets efficiently. ;) BUY DROPSHIP.

Vlad, there are camera icons you can get in San Fierro,
one in the train station across from CJ's garage, one in front of the Burger Shot on the south side of the city, one at a corner of the big pointy building, and I think there was one inside the building with the huge atrium sculpture. You don't need spraypaint outside of Los Santos, so don't worry about that.
