Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Has Been Upgraded to Unreal Engine 5 for Improved Quality and Performance

Leenzee Games producer Xia Siyuan confirmed that the game is now running on Unreal Engine 5:

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has been upgraded from Unreal Engine 4 to UE5. This brings significant improvements in visual and technical performance. Realistic lighting, scanned models, and physics-based effects, along with a more robust game framework, create a more immersive game experience. This upgrade also allows us to better showcase the cultural essence we aimed to convey.

On the combat system, Siyuan said:

Skyborn Might represents the power of the Feathered clan, the ability to control over karma. As the core of the game's combat system, Skyborn Might seamlessly blends combo mechanics with RPG builds. The game features five weapon types, with 25 unique weapons spread across these categories. Each weapon offers distinct combat style and combo techniques. Players can equip both a main weapon and a secondary one. Switching weapons and quickly unleashing weapon skills further extend the combo chains.

The game features 40 different spells, which can be assigned to four spell slots. Players can integrate spells into their weapon combos or choose to forgo weapon combos entirely and create their own spell-focused combat style. We encourage players to build their own unique playstyles. At the Shrine, players can freely try out different weapon skills, discipline skills, and spell combinations without any cost.

I believe, especially about performance. In the end of the day UE5 is known for its abys... exceptional performance

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Ummm... It's going to look and run worse now, isn't it?

It probably affords them adding UE features like Lumen or Nanite later. If it's a decision made this close to release, it's probably just for future proofing on their part.

UE5 has seen substantial improvements. The games shipping on it so far are using 5.0 or 5.1, which do not have the performance improvements of 5.2 that added support for nanite foliage, of 5.4 which fixed the CPU bottlenecks improving performnace by 50-80% and 5.5 which doubled the Lumen performance allowing devs to use Hardware Lumen instead of Software Lumen at the same cost.

Animations look a bit stiff, but I'm all for more Nioh type action games. Not enough of them. Between this and First Beserker, I'm excited. I think this is on Gamepass day 1 too

Question is, which version did these guys upgrade to

So it's going to look and run like shit on consoles now. Shame.
Can't wait to enjoy amazing 4K visuals (upscaled from 680p) at 60fps (generated from a 30-40fps base)

In actual game release:

The biggest thing EPIC achieved in the past decade was selling the lie that this POS engine is worth any damn.

Wukong, The Talos Principle 2, Silent Hill 2, Robocop, Infinity Nikki... they all look fantastic.

Yeah at 30fps.
If you want 60fps most of these fall apart with a crappy sub 1080p upscaled image full of artifacting and framerate drops (or in the case of Infinity Nikki there isn't even a 60fps option).
I guess Robocop was decent though, at least it managed to reach actual 1080p though it drops frames all over the place when the combat gets heavy.

This looks like a relatively fast paced Soulslike, it's not something I want to play at 30fps

Fortnite runs at 60fps.

“Visual and technical performance.”

They didn’t say frame rate, seems like a bit of not understanding English fully or something.
