Watching First Class right now to get ready for tonight!

Everything with magneto and charles is so good, magneto especially. Bacon does great as well. January Jones is so horrible.

I don't know where the budget went on that movie but the special effects are so dodgy.

Really took me out of the film. Everything else was fine.

...Psylock IS in the x-men trilogy =P

January Jones' child support.

This might be a bit too celeb gossipy for this thread (and to be honest, I don't care too much myself), but I was at a mixer last night that had a few people that worked on this film and First class in attendance.

One of them told me it was an "open secret" in Hollywood that Matthew Vaughn knocked up January Jones, and Fox went to great lengths to cover that shit up. I had no idea. Am I just missing something? Is this actually a thing?

Also, apparently Matthew Vaughn went nuts on set once and called Jennifer Lawrence fat. She hated him. Bonus points: She also doesn't like American Hustle, and thinks she was miscast.

That's the extent of what I heard.

Yeah Vaughn's affair and pregnancy with Jones on First Class is well known. He fucked up good.

X2 (2003)

Everything is awesome!

A few effects here and there didn't aged very well, but nothing big enoght to take you out of the experience.

Still a marvelous experience from begining to end.

Full of cool action scenes (OMFG NIGHTCRAWLER) and touching moments, even a few easter eggs here and there

Tomorrow should I see X3 and see DoFP on saturday ... or see First Class and see DoFP as soon as possible ????
Only time (and work) will tell =O

See you there o/

Some box office tracking news: Nikki Finke is predicting a four day weekend of at least $100 million while MTC is predicting a $91 million three day weekend and a $115 million 4 day weekend.

Enjoyed the trilogy as a whole, but that was a long time ago, gonna have to watch them again. First Class may be my favorite solely because of McAvoy and Fassbender, but I'm gonna marathon the trilogy this week and see if that still stands.

X2 has aged incredibly well. So many badass scenes, but the ones that stand out for me are Nightcrawler's breaking into the White House and Magneto's plastic prison escape.

Just got out of watching it and it was pretty epic. Like Marvel is going to have to step up their game epic. I think I still liked First Class better but this well so well done and for the most part carried the same atmosphere with it.

The main focus is the story (yay good plots and well written stuff!) but the action can get outright brutal and crazy. At one point I was wondering what movie I was watching. I would be very upset if Fox lost this franchise.

My only disappointment is that I feel they gave Colossus the short end of the stick. Definitely doesn't have time to shine.

That seemed likely and okay in my book. There are so many characters from the past films to cover here and the future material seemed like a book-end piece.

Going to go watch it in about 6 hours. I wasn't excited for this movie few month ago but latest trailers and reviews got me excited again.

I watched X-2 again just to prepare myself. The movie does hold up well but the battle scene with Wolverine and Deathstrike didn't look too good watching it now.

There is post-credit scene in DOTFP, right?

I watch First Class again last week when it was shown on TV. I remember being really underwhelmed by it first time around, and a second viewing does nothing to improve things. The two main downers are the effects, and weak performances from otherwise capable actors. Fassbender and Law seem to phone in some scenes, and Fassbender's wonky accent yo-yoing from Irish to semi-American and back again is awful.

The VFX ranges from OK to really bad. In a film that relies heavily on CGI, having ropey effects ruins any sense of immersion. There are genuinely moments in the film that look on a par with the effects in Agents of SHILED.

I just pre-ordered my reserved seating for Thursday 10PM and I am shocked...the amounts of seats left were surprisingly few. I got the last good seats, a pair that is 3 rows down from the top (usually my preferred location).

I'll make two posts, the spoiler free review which will be this one and then the spoiler filled extravaganza where I can really explain why I felt the way I did.

This is a great movie, I think in general crowds will greatly enjoy it. I feel like this movie has moments that match some of the best moments of X2. I think it has some very good character moments as well. I personalty don't feel that the whole movie flows as well as X2 or even First Class. I think it was the lack of a central villain character, as well as a few choices that I will get into in the other post.

I loved almost everything that took place in the future. Quicksilver is the new Nightcrawler, he steals the show and has the best scene in the movie. This movie has the spirit of X2 far more than the more loose comic booky First Class, it is Singer through and through. I am split with Lawrence in this film, there are parts where she nails the mystique of the old movies, and other times,,.. Fassbender wow. McAvoy great as well.

Of course Jackman is Wolverine, he does everything the movie needs him to do. If he needs to be badass no one is more badass. If he needs to be the heart of the film he can carry the emotional weight. If he needs to be funny he gets some of the funniest lines. I have watched most of the movies back to back and what we have with Jackman is so special, no actor in movie history has put more into any comic book character than he has, and he still finds ways to excite and surprise us.

The movie has all the elements of a great film it just didn't fit all together as I would have liked and I will get into that in the next post. I feel there will be a split between those that think this is the best one and those that think X2 is. For me X2 is still the standard and I am not sure where I place this one with respect to First Class which I loved, I may need to watch it again before I decide which I like more, probably Days.

Spoiler time

As I said everything in the future I loved, it was mutant power porn and I eat that shit up. I felt First Class got the whole team mutant battle better than any of the Singer films did, well singer stepped up his action game as this stuff is the best mutant fights I have ever seen. Iceman making the bridge, blink making crazy portals for Colossus, Bishop using his absorbing powers. It was all so badass. And the sentinels, holy shit they were scary as hell. Absorbing the mutants powers was a great idea as the sentinels as is are pretty easy to kill, but these things, DAMN. The kills were crazy, Colossus ripped in half. Warpath's head melted. Iceman beheaded. Crazy stuff, loved it all.

The stuff in the 70s started off great and hilarious as you get a bit of the comedy that comes with the man out of time scenario. Quicksilver breaking out Magneto is the best scene in the film, the entire theater was going nuts, what a way to make a memorable character. I liked most everything up through the assassination attempt which was a pretty dramatic epic scene.

After that it dragged for me, I am not a fan of the whole "super hero losing their powers for a chunk of the movie cause of emotional distress" storylines. The whole melodrama with Professor X did nothing for me, you are Xavier, snap of this stupid shit and get on with it. It did give us a great moment between Wolverine and Xavier where he explains what he means to the X-Men that I loved, the rest was just padding to me. Even the old to young Xavier talk didn't do much for me.

The focus on Mystique didn't fit right to me. The first time you see her in the movie she is doing her best Romiin impression and it worked, she was badass. Then they started to play on the whole you can still be good garbage, and oh should she or shouldn't she. Lawrence wasn't handling the emotional scenes that well at all. It bothers me that Mystique is this swing vote for the Xavier side and the Magneto side when that isn't what her character is about at all.

Magneto was excellent in this movie as he goes full on evil bastard mode. Straight up trying to murder Mystique as if she means nothing to him was pretty brutal. He finally takes his role as the true villain as he is supposed to. So here we have Magneto in all his glory, the scene we have been waiting for since these movies were created BUT no X-Men to fight him. And that to me is probably why the movie fell sort of flat at the end to me.

Here he is with Sentinels, carrying an entire stadium, about to kill the president and what do we have, Wolverine and Beast. That's it. That is not the X-Men, that is just Wolverine and Beast and they get their asses whopped as they should. The Wolverine scene was brutal, a nice nod to the Fatal Attractions moment, wow. Then what stops him, Mystique, come on. There was no true X-Men presence in the past, it was simply scattered characters on a crazy Mystique chase. I think for others they will love this whole sequence, I think part of my disappointment is my expectations for seeing a classic X-men versus Magneto battle.

At least the payoff for it all was epic. The final scenes of this movie are PERFECT. I will admit I got emotional. When he sees Beast and its Kelsey Grammar it's like wow they got him back! Then you see Rogue! And Storm! Omg omg omg and there she is... wow what a moment. Jean Grey and then the big reveal CYCLOPS! The theater went NUTS!

They are all back! The entire point of this movie was basically to erase Xmen 3 from existence. Finally Singer can make the epic grand finale he always wanted to, with all the best characters...well if stays out of jail.

The final shot of Apocalypse was perfect! Ancient pyramids, four horsemen! I just hope the kid look was just for the tease, he better be much bigger in the next one.

My twitter feed just lit up with all the Portland press getting out of the film.

Not a single unkind word to be read. Not one.

That hasn't happened with a summer blockbuster in quite awhile.
