X05: PGR3 Live Gameplay

Whats up with the vibrating cockpit?

I figure that's to simulate the head movement of the driver. I know I've seen that as the explanation for it in some other games.

I can't wait to play this.

I honestly cannot tell if this is 30 or 60 fps, I usually easily do. It looks like 60 to me ...
You can't tell on a video. The frame-rate of the video = the framerate you see, not the games.

I can understand subtle movement due to g-forces but it looks like its driving on a shredded tire.

Well this gets my vote for best looking Xbox 360 game. The visuals are pristine. I don't see a single jagged edge or polygon anywhere.

The video is 50fps, that's sufficiently more than 30 to detect a difference for the people who can easily do so.

I can usually tell the difference but I try not to, because if I don't know, then I'm not really missing out on anything

That actually looks like real 3D motionblur. I wonder when that breakthrough happened, because 3D motionblur totally kills the render time in CG.

I know everyone here is just totally apeshit obsessed about 60fps, but I'd definitely take a solid 30fps with true 3D motionblur over 60fps anyday. Motionblur is going to be what stops videogames from looking like videogames.

definitely the best clip yet, Blim, i need more!

also, whats playable in the demo? can you race all cities? what cars?

i'd kill to see the ring if its featured. the garage and geomtery wars as well. really, just more of everything :)

A little disappointing that there's still no real damage. I was hoping to see pieces of glass and stuff scattered all over the track when he had the big crash.

Otherwise it looks gorgeous and I really really hope this is there at launch so I'll have something to play.

Instead you get a massive framedrop. Thats punish enough to keep you from slamming I would think. ;)

Yeah, I expected more damage too. Maybe damage is turned off in the demo??

the damage looks the same as pgr2 sadly.

it doesnt fit in with the rest of the gorgeous visuals, i think i would have preferred it without it actually

Something's not perfect in PGR3 land. What's the deal with the LOD on the building textures? I saw it on the IGN vids and it's somewhat noticable here too. It's all blurry and then they just pop right in.....kinda like Halo 2.

Hopefully that'll be fixed in the final build. I'm usually pretty forgiving when it comes to graphical glitches but this is one area where I have to make an acception. It bugged the hell out of me in Halo 2 and it'll really drive me nuts here (no pun intended).

it will be. as mentioned somewhere, this build is already about 2 weeks old, and preview discs of pgr2 had the same issues (even worse) just before that came out.

op_ivy summed it up well. PGR2 had it worse when it was being demoed but ran perfect when released.

They are still working on the texture streaming, it will be fixed for the final build. The press conference build was 3 weeks old, the one from the showfloor was 1 week old. It had all the cities btw, I'll try to take some footage of NY, but it's the least optimized city yet so the framerate gets a bit low sometimes. They still have about 10 days to finish the game, it's now feature complete and they only have optimizations and bug fixes to do.

only 10 days left???

Jeez....

If Nintendo was publishing this game, PGR3 would recieve all the time it needed to be the best game it could be....

Don't get me wrong....I am excited for the game, but would it really kill MS to let this game bake for even one month more???

I'm SOOOOO with you. X360 will sell out without PGR3 on launch day. Let PGR3 be the best it can be!

PGR NEW YORK!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!! *faints*

Have you ever driven a car at high speeds?

Yes, I have taken a modified awd eclipse 120mph over an unpaved gravel surface and still the car did not jar that much. Even in a Firehawk going over 150 on a crappy west texas road it seemed comparitively smooth.

Yeah, after having watched it a second time, it does seem like quite a lot of vibration. Maybe they put it in there to further enhance the sense of really being in that car or something. Toning it down just a little would fix it I guess.

The X360 has some USB ports, I don't know why they didn't implement support for a USB wheel. :P

You think microsoft would make any money from you using a USB wheel without their branding on it?

As you may know, there is now a royality surcharge for 3rd party accessory manufacturers.

Btw, looks like 30fps, but i'll have to see it in person before I decide if i'm going to skip it

QFT. I said something similar about sense of speed in another thread as well. If you're car is rocking that much, you probably shouldn't be going that fast. :lol My car feels very nice from 90-120mph. It would feel fine at a higher speed too, if I didn't run out of gear. The same thing with sense of speed. 120mph looks like 70mph on a highway, or any other road that has scenery/objects at least 10 feet off the shoulder. You shouldn't really notice the speed until you see your brake point blow by, and you can't scrub speed in time. PEACE.

Holy shit at the draw distance on the New York track. That's insane.

2 things though

Am I the only bothered by the fact the enviroment does not cast real-time shadows on the car? The car just gets light/dark. Seems lame when there are racers this gen that have environments that cast real-time shadows on vehicles.

The other thing is, the trees on the New York track look totally out of place, static and unrealistic. Here you are driving on a near photo-realistic bridge with an absolutely insane draw distance and then you drive past ten identical trees that look like they were plucked out of an Xbox/ps2 game.

Other than those 2 things the game looks amazing.

yeah, i've hit ~150 on the highway, and if anything, the ride felt smoother, like my car was floating on a cushion of air :)

that said, it looks great in a video game, where you wouldnt otherwise have much of a feeling of motion, to exagerate this sort of stuff.

Haha. You've read the forum, you'd just get the other subset bitching about how it wasn't sped up to make launch.

On a road/street course, with the stiff suspensions used in racing, you will have a shitload of vibration in the cockpit.
These are still production cars, not race models per-se. And anyone that's taken a car to 120+ has a tight suspension to begin with. My car is braced up tight with solid motor mounts, and while it vibrates and rattles, it doesn't alter the view at all. I'm not exactly rocking in my seat. From what I gather, this is the driver's view, not a stationary camera in the cockpit. That said, it's clearly for aesthetic value, nothing more. So it's a meaningless nitpick on my part. PEACE.

Yeah, I have issues.

I actually aggree with you there--the shake in the cockpit is probably a bit much. I have a video somewhere here of someone taking a 360 modena up to 160, and there is SOME jitter, but not quite as much. But I have to admit, it adds to the excitement of the perspective a great deal--yeah, it's exaggerated, much like other aspects of this game. Rightly so, as this IS an arcade game . . .
