X360 Future Proofed According to Mr. Gates

I read an interview in the new OXM with Billy "Wonder CEO" Gates where he stated, "The X360 is future proofed". Now this is the second time I've heard that statement used, the first in an Allard interview. What possbile ninja like secret does the 360 contain that will make this statement valid? I can't see offering a music service or having to buy a new version of the system for HD-DVD movies being classified as "future proofing". Anyone have any notion of what that might really entail?

...

wait for it

They're going to segment the market!

They'll continue to release"improved" versions every couple of years under the "Xbox 360" Brand, and require devs to make their games compatible across the whole line!

I hope it is built with the ability to play larger size DVD discs.

Although the MS Japan exec hinted at something too as far as a secret we don't know about yet. Who knows. Probably bs.

Why not just have the newer (red laser readable) media just update the system for the new, larger capacity discs? All larger capacity discs could have the update in them so that not a single X360 system misses out, whether they have a broadband connection or not.

isnt that an old interview? anyways, unless there really is some hidden 360 magic (i doubt it), imo the 360 is surprisingly not future proofed, at least home theater-wise... no hdmi, no higher capacity optical drive, only 20gb hd.. etc. they could go with more skus, but i think most owners would be rightly put off... so im not sure what gates is trying to say. still an awesome console, and Live is pure brilliance.

Remember the "expansion port" on the PS2? Well, the 360's expansion port will give blowjobs. Details will be revealed at a later date.

new upgradeable hard drives and the ability to download and purchase high def movies probably.

That's what I was thinking. Didn't Gates say in another interview somewhere that neither HD-DVD or Blu Ray were going to be that important to the future of HD home entertainment, and that downloadable content was what everyone should be looking towards?

What I don't undertand about that is the size contraints (with the X360s Laptop form HDD being 20GB, possible upgrade being only 40GB). Also, if that where the case, I think its a play on words and it should be worded like "Xbox 360 is future proof because of WMC and Windows Vista connectivity to the Xbox 360".

The 360 you see now (Hardware wise) is whats set in stone, unless theres some weird black box about the system, if thats the case, i'm going to go play some Xenogears again.

I highly doubt that considering a 2 minute trailer running at 720p downloaded off of Live takes 150 megs up and 15 minutes to download accross my high speed cable connection. Take those numbers and multiply into hours. No ones gonna do that.

The secret is Microsoft releasing Internet v2.0 alongside Windows Vista! 2GB/s Download speeds

:O

:lol

Anyway, I'm not sure this statement means anything other than that Gates feels he has a product that will stand the test of time just fine. And I don't think he'd say anything except that, so there's probably nothing to be gained from trying to pry apart the comments.

You mean these things called GAMES can be purchased in the future? Even ones that haven't been made yet? WOW!

Well it's true
Do I need to ask who let you in here or are you just going to never speak again?

That statement doesn't mean anything without an explanation behind it.

p.s. Blaster1X doesn't know anything, has never known anything, and will never know anything.

"future proof" = "I have infinite money so I can advertise this bitch for as long as it takes for you to get so sick of it they change a complete circle to 36*1* degrees! yeeuh!"

It's a fantastic console.

Best online service, a media hub, high definition gaming, developer support.

But the 360 has no expansion slot...

Look closely, take a right at the vents, a left at the Glowing Ring of light and then take a U Turn around the power button. That will take you to an old man....

It DOES have an HD-DVD drive built in, they're just not telling anyone yet.

What color light does the DVD (HD-DVD) drive emit? Make sure you point it directly at your retina for confirmation.

Donkey Kong 64 was one of the best selling games of the year it was released.

Anyone remember what that game required to play?

I bought the DK64 N64 Bundle set because I thought it'd be rare.
Then two months later:
HEY! FUN COLORS!

The memory pack came bundled-in...and DK64 was a huge hit because of the DKC series, hype was through the roof. Anyway, if it weren't for Majora's Mask that pack would be completely useless.

Perfect Dark also required it

You don't know shit. They're not making it HD-DVD or Blue-Ray compatible, and they're not offering a DVI/HDMI cable. You don't have intuition, insider knowledge, or even a decent grasp of English.

The color the drive emits can be customized by the user. It's future proof, in case your favorite color changes.
