XBL: Games with Gold

Surely there can't be that many people left who hasn't played the new TR? I don't think I can be bothered to play it again so close to the new one. Hopefully The Deer God will be good or else it's another meh month for me.

I finished it just two nights ago. I was holding out for a GWG release but I got my hands on it a while back and then jumped into and complete it over the course of three days.

Great game. Excited for Rise of The Tomb Raider which is now a day one buy for me most likely. It's like my new Arkham series.

Seems like most of the negative reviews of The Deer God were from its Early Access release much earlier this year. Interested to hear how it's improved since then and whether it's worth playing now.

You should be able to look at the screens and read the description and make a judgment call as to whether that game would appeal to you or not. It's very clearly a WW2 game, so if that's not your bag, then you can safely pass.

Personally, if I don't think I will actually play a game, I'll still start the download and then cancel it so that the game is in my library if I ever change my mind and want to play it. It's free so why not?

That isn't a Battlefield game.

i know, it was said in jest.

and thanks. the fact that no one here has vouched for it tells me all i need to know.

mostly due to feeling like i shouldnt add something i dont intend on playing ever. Just makes me feel like a digital hoarder

The Deer God is probably the worst title they have released with GWG so far. Game data was corrupted twice already and several achievements are glitched. Now those same achievements are also glitched in the PC version that was released in February and they didn't bother to fix them. Uh yeah fuck this game.

Gave Deer God a crack because it looked cool.

To the "Ready to install" list with you my friend. My 3 year old loved running and jumping around as a baby deer for a while though.

The one thing that bothers me, is that I can't play any of my Xbox Live Arcade games offline, as they will always revert back to demo mode. I don't always have a stable internet connection, so it's irritating that this issue hasn't been resolved in anyway.

Switched to a new Xbox? Did you go through with the DRM transfer tool?

What is preventing you from transferring the licenses?

that battlefield pacific thing isn't worth downloading, right? I just want to feel better on passing on it

It actually is quite good, but it's not a game for everyone. It's mostly about large sea battles in the pacific in WW2. Firing off a full broadside with your volume and bass cranked up high with some of the largest battleships is actually really exciting.

Game is more a tactical game than an action one, you need to send ships into right positions etc. You can control each ship manually too, if you want to get into som cool battles.

I liked the game back in the day, it's not graphical marvel or anything, but it does it's thing well.

Huh? What do you mean?

Do a license transfer to that Xbox 360, then redownload the games. It won't actually redownload them, it'll just check if the installation is ok and give you the license back.
I can play every XBLA game offline just fine, I've never changed my Xbox 360 and did a license transfer before redownloading everything to my new shiny external HDD.

But that's the thing. I didn't download the games to a different console. If anything, they have been sitting on my system since I had purchased them.
You probably deleted them and redownloaded, that's why.

Completed Deer God in a few hours, got some achievements, not going to bother with the rest, it's just not particularly fun to play. Also I kept going out of the scenery which made things a little harder...

Dear God, this game isn't fun to play at all. One of my friend have a sight issue and he can't play the game at all when you start moving because the camera get too far from the character.

I don't have any sight problem but I too find this is way too far from the player. And some perspective problems when you think you can jump on a plateform but you can't because it's slightly in the background (but not too much).

It hasn't improved at all, they didn't even bother to fix the broken achievements when they ported it over to XB1. It's a shit game also, the likes of which can't be fixed by a simple patch. Look on the bright side though; at least we don't have to see this game for 3 months like that Pool Nation debacle.

Darn :-(

I think I am also in the camp of not enjoying Deer God.

Am I not 'getting' it? I just ran around as a Deer double jumping and smashing things with a poorly implemented attack mechanism.

Seriously, am I missing something?

Deer God is so weird lol.

Not weird in a 'good' way either, it mostly looks nice but its just such an odd game that doesn't seem to have a whole lot to it.

How do MS pick these things? Honestly its such an odd choice of a game to be in a spotlight position of everyone look at us and what we offer you for free if you go with our service.

I don't even get Deer God. I just kept going right and I met some people along the way.

Was not fun, basically waiting for Tomb Raider right now.

Deer God is in a unique position of being the only thing worse than that wolf puzzle platformer on PS4.

Neck and neck with Tower of Guns.

Aaru's Awakening is somehow marginally better than those, but I can see where you are coming from.

"We got Tomb Raider this month, dump anything else in there."

...which is kinda fair :p

Yea, Tower of Guns was super boring as well. I thought So Many Me was bad, but really it was just the art style and writing that turned me off. At the very least, the puzzles were generally well thought out. Deer God does a really poor job of explaining what exactly it is. It's not very good as a platformer, it's not very good at being a survival game, and the combat is thoughtless and feels bad.

So Many Me didn't hold my interest because it fails at determining which parts are meant to be platforming, and which parts are meant to be a puzzle in nature.

This is a hard concept to explain, but it comes down to how the levels are designed given the gameplay the game has: You are led into trying to jump, traverse, or think there's a path where actually you are meant to find a puzzle-style solution -- and vice versa. The game does a terrible job of telegraphing the difference between the two, and I think that's essential for a puzzle platformer.

I might go back to it at some point, but it was another clunker IMO. And don't get me started on How To Survive!

I actually felt like How To Survive was the best thing on the service since Massive Challice. At least it was mechanically sound. So Many Me wasn't a very good puzzle platformer, don't get me wrong, but it was better than Deer God.

I agree 100%. That was the major problem I had with it. I also just didn't find it to be that fun or rewarding.

Yup, if we weren't getting Tomb Raider this month I'd be pissed. Not that Tomb Raider makes up for this broken game, but it eases the sting.

I really enjoyed so many me. I never really considered it a platformer in the main game at all due to the platforming being super trivial. The clock tower portion was pretty much pure platforming. I thought it had a clear separation.

Though the final level of the main game was platforming pretty much.

I actually can't wait to try the Deer God now just to see how bad it really is. Gonna whack it on now.

Edit: this is truly awful, I need to turn it off.
