The only reason why calling it xbone seems childish mockery to some instead of a harmless joke is because it currently is a name of something worth mocking. This might change after E3. I don't think the name will stick, but I don't see why fans of the console couldn't use it.

MS themselves seems to abbreviate to XO.

This is why I think people are getting upset. If you only think of bone=penis, then you'll find the name too simple.

bone has a lot of meanings.

bone = what makes up your skeleton

bone = slang for penis

bone = to have sex with ("I boned your mom")

bone = to be screwed ("I deleted term paper, now I'm totally boned")

bone = dollar ("Lend me 20 bones")

bones = Dr. McCoy

Boner = a jerk, hardass ("People are really being boners about this Xbone thing")

It's in the embarrassing inevitability of the Internet flooding phenomenon you can't stop.

Soon the Xbone moniker will take foot, and Microsoft won't be able to do anything to stop it, no matter how strong they will try to control the message.
