Xbox 2? No, Xbox 360

I don't find anything wrong with the name. "Xbox 2" sounds boring and I never liked the idea of Sony doing that with the Playstation either. The name could be better, but it's not what I would consider the worst console name ever. It'll probably be changed again.

I've always considered "Dreamcast" to be one of the better console names.

Xbox 360!

doesn't 360 degrees = 1 REVOLUTION!

OHMYGOD! Xbox 360 to play Nintendo Revolution games!

THREE SIX OOOH! This system is gonna be TIGHT YO!
:lol :lol

Xbox, TAG YO MAN! TAG YO MAN!

This sounds entirely believable to me. The flow of thought must have been something as follows:

Microsoft product marketing:
"We have to name the Xbox follower - let's call it Xbox 2."

Consumer studies expert:
"Nah, we can't do that, since it will seem older than PlayStation 3 to those dumb consumers"

Xbox brand manager:
"How about Xbox 3?"

Microsoft product marketing:
"We can't call it Xbox 3 since that would raise questions about a missing second one"

Xbox brand manager
"Ok, let's have an agency create us some different routes of names."

Agency
"We came up with three main routes:
1. Xbox + number(s), for example "Xbox 247"
1. Xbox + Word, for example "Xbox Evolution"
2. Xbox + letter combination "Xbox NE""

Consumer studies expert
"Let's study those alternatives with real gamers."

* results arrive *

"It seems that the letters combinations didn't make much sense, since the consumers couldn't understand that they identify a next generation product"

"The word were considered cool, but could dilute the main Xbox brand - for example if the gamers started to talk of 'Evolution' only."

"The numbers were seen as feeling the most technically advanced, and easy to use. There was some confusion about the meaning of the numbers, however."

Xbox brand manager
"Numbers it is, then. So, would you come up with some combination that would be logical and start with 3, to go against PS3?"

Agency
"We came up with the following number combinations having a three in them: Xbox 3000 (the next millenium), Xbox 365 (days of the year), Xbox 360 (full circle), Xbox G3 (generation three)."

Xbox brand manager
"Hey, Xbox 360 is kinda cool, goes with 3D graphics and immersion and stuff. Yeah, we could do some cool rendered shit for that."

Microsoft product marketing
"That's quite ok. And this is an one generation solution, anyway. We can call the next device simply 'Xbox 4' anyway, since it is the follower to 'Xbox 360'. By 2010 no one will remember that there was no 'Xbox 2'"

To simplify - naming follow-up products is a bitch - incredibly complex task where there never is an optimal solution. Some solutions suck more, some less.

Hence, if you ever see a product naming task moving towards your desk, run for your life and don't look back!

But then MS would release

"Xbox Infinity.... + 1 "

or the

"XBox (PSn1 + Nn2 ..... + 1) <where n1 = sony's number and n2 = nintendo's number>"

That's a bit of a mouthful, so will probably just be called the Xbox Penis Extender

Oh? So I guess the 'Advance' part of the GBA didn't work out either?

Evolution isn't long at all. How is adding Evolution to Xbox splitting the brand? If that were true then Color and Advance should've split the GB brand but it didn't.

Stop making excuses and just admit that 360 is dumb. I mean, what're they going to call the system after that? Xbox 720?

True enough, and I said in my very first post that it was an awful name :P Evolution just doesn't do it for me, there are a lot of syllables in there, it just seems clumsy to me. Though Xbox Advance does sound better, possibly because I'm just so used to the GameBoy tag now ;)

I can think of many things worse then Xbox 360, and oddly calling it xbox 2 is one of them.

From a marketing point of view, they could use that 360 number for the lifespan of the console, they have to make it mean something though- either the system is circular, the logo is a cicle with xbox inside of it maybe , hell idono.

I think Xenon sounds best, make it white like someone mentioned and to avoid confusion about its name make the X in it's logo green but with a line on the top and bottom in a different color to make people think of the letter Z when they see it. Xbox HD is the best name out of those choices though, abbreviate it as X HD, so the actual logo would the be the Xbox X (with the split open paper look, glowing green underneath) and the letters HD next to it.

Honestly though, i could care less what it's called so long as they make the thing a little smaller then the original console and it still gets good games and live support.

THere will be a tilt sensor in the console, so one can pick it up and use it as a steering wheel. And when you pull the cord, you can learn the sound one of the sounds twelve barnyard animals make. And when it's fully powered, the fan will cause it hover millimeters above the floor, which means fun with a hoverboard.

Xbox 360? "We're back to where we started"?

A remake of Halo 1. :lol :lol

Meaning: Only 360 days until Sony releases their console and steals our hype/thunder.

They better not call it Xenon. I will feel embarrassed trying to pronounce it in my language to the clerk behind the counter. :lol

Well that of course made sense since it was 64-bits and done to differentiate from the 32-bit machines. The 360 seemingly has no relevance that we know of yet (who knows, maybe it will spin or something heh).

No relevance? 360? Think about it.

Xbox 360 makes sense... it is the center of your living room and connects to everything around it. I would have preferred HD for high def... but then it seems narrow in scope. 3-6-O will catch on.

Damn, now Meier doesn't have to think about it. Took the thoughts from my head. :lol

i highly doubt this will be the name. it's just terrible. im sure people with some sort of power read through fan sites and forums all the time just to read feedback and theyre going to see nothing but negative reactions to the name. well im hoping at least.

Am I the only one who finds it obvious what the name implies?

360 is the number of days per year I'll be playing Halo 3 on mah XBAWKS THREE SIXT- yeah okay it's a retarded name.

edit: hahahaha, Xenon Warrior Console, I would buy 10 if they had the balls to name it that

They should just market it like the iPod and call it the xBox

[troll]Ya, since there won't be any other title worth buying the system for.[/troll]

I kid, I kid... :)

"XBox 360" is a horrible name. However, something like "X360", or "The X-360", would be pretty cool imo. :) Or maybe it's just as lame... :P

"360 LBS

I can't believe it took this long for a weight reference in an Xbox thread like this. I'm a tad disappointed in you guys! :D

What about the Atari 2600?

Well, that was originally called the Atari VCS, Video Computer System. 2600 was the model number of the first unit, I believe. It later became the official name when they decided to use 5200 as a name for it's successor.

That's the coolest console name I've ever heard. Anyone that doesn't think that way hasn't said it outloud.

If that doesn't do it for you, try to scream it at the top of your lungs.
If that still doesn't do it for you, I don't know what will.
MOOORTAL KOMBAAAAT!!!

Let me first start with names that sound retarded or that should immediately be ruled out.

1) Next Box
2) Xbox next
3) Xenon <-----------stupid retarded how the fark do you even say it?

Now let me guide MS in the direction of smart marketing or catchy marketing that people like.

1) XB2

2) X2

Let me relay this one more time..........people like to abbreviate, they like things that are short and sweet. XB2, and X2 are both short, sweet, and catchy. Pick one of these and you have something instantly recognized and something that's like a catch phrase.

Xenon. Like amazon. Zee-non.

Still sounds like ass, but I don't like 360 either. The only way that could work is if they make the console a circle or something goofy.
