Xbox 360 controller rechargeable?

I dont have a pic but someone posted one the other day showing a small port on the bottom of the Xbox 360 controller.

Its a USB cable probably connects to the Xbox 360 to recharge the controller.
I've seen adapters like this to recharge your cell phone from your laptop.

People are worrying too much. Look how long a Wavebird lasts on 2 AA batteries, I think i've changed mine about 4 times since getting them. Xbox 360 pads with proper rechargable batteries will last a long time. We've already seen screens of a USB cable that plugs into the pads, it's quite obvious they'll charge from the machine.

yes, you know some of us actually do play four player games quite often.

yeah but all of em going dead at the same time? like i said, i guess it could happen but it seems like it would be very rare to need to recharge 4 all at the same time.

If you have 4 friends playing games for long periods of time, then you might need 4 cables.

And I think a cradle would be much less hassle than the USB shit.
I'd put my cradle on the end table by my sofa and keep it there.

I don't see the problem with 3 as long as you can play and recharge at the same time. I don't see any reason for this to not be the case.

I can't really see how 3 controllers could die simulaneously in the very moment you are about to play a more than 3 players gaming session. I mean, it's like once in a lifetime.

Well, is there no extra room for one more USB 2.0 port?

4 controller, 3 USB 2.0 ports, this is a small wtf moment. It makes sense to have 4 USB ports to cover all four controllers. Seems like a move of Nintendo proportions to sell an add on accessory. I hope the USB 2.0 port number isn't finalized and they add one more.

The Xbox controller in this pic seems docked into something. Might be a charger.

FWIW, there is only one USB port on the front of the console.. two are on the back, so I imagine one is for the camera, the other is likely for the possibility of some future peripheral, and the sole one on the front is for recharging the controllers... but if its a concern, Im sure a third party will come up with a splitter for you, or even a cradle type solution..

as far as Im concerened... 1 charger would be fine. 90% of the time I am the only one playing games, so 1 controller would likely die faster than the others which would sit in my entertainment center and only brought out occasionally (one or twice a week tops?) so the odds of all of them dying at once are slim to none.

Xbox 360 controller rechargeable?

A little optimistic aren't you?

I expect we'll be required to throw away the drained controllers and replace them. But to make the process easier and friendlier, the controllers will be constructed out of biodegradable rice paper.

Well... MS needs something to try and appeal to the Japanese market.

it's two USB slots for controllers, 1 extra for the camera. Are we even sure MS is gonna support more than 2 players on one 360 box? I'd get ready for a(nother) wallet rape if you want 4 player split screen on 360.

basically what oli said is what im talking about

you play a long 4 player session (hello halo?) 3 of us are on usb and the other guy is not, his controller dies. then we have to switch his controller to the usb and yada yada yada this is retarded.

and theoretically if you play a 4 player game with all controllers at equally full charge, and then play alot over a few days youre gonna have to recharge one of them.

It's all about selling add ons. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a USB 2.0 hub or splitter available for sale at launch with the s ystem.

Unless.

im sure there will be...

also ghost is probably right about the camera n stuff. maybe the 360 is only two players?

Just give me a damn cord Microsoft.

Personally, in my situation, I really have no need for wireless. A game controller dying on me mid game is really going to piss me off.

yeah but the Wavebird doesn't have rumble. If it had rumble and the batteries die like once a week it would become a problem.

I think it's pretty safe to say it supports four-players wirelessly.

Jesus, let's not bitch about this. If you play 4-player that often, you just hot-swap the charging cable around. One person plugs in for half an hour, then swaps that cable to another person during a quick game pause, and they charge for a half hour, and so on and so forth. Seems pretty simple to me, and cuts down on the number of ugly USB ports cluttering the system's case. This is assuming the controllers really are rechargeable, which I'm not really betting on. I really do hope to be proven wrong though.

BTW, I bet the way they make people buy new controllers is when the batteries die, you won't be able to service the battery. But I'm hoping that if someone does eventually make a rechargeable controller stock, that there'll be a way to mod it with a better battery. I'd love to be able to upgrade to a higher capacity LiPo or something if need be. PEACE.

A long time... like a couple of days? Playing 40 hours straight or something? Wavebird batteries last pretty long, I'd expect similar from these pads.

how hard would it be to have an auto-pause hard coded to the sytem if it loses connection with the controller? That seems like the likely solution.. in which case you go "aww fuck, the controller died, go get the wire".. it would suck a ton during multiplayer, but for single player outings I dont think it would be a big deal.

Perhaps part of the dashboard could be a way for the controller to tell the xbox how much power it has so you could check on its status (like the little icon on a cell phone) or the Xbox could give you a pop up warning when you had less than half an hour on a given controller.

I think they will just use standard AAA rechargeable batteries. They are easier to swap, cheaper and you don't really need a huge capacity battery for a controller in the first place. I recall one of the early leaked pics showing a quite big battery slot underneth the controller (hence the AAA assumption).

Interrupting gameplay because of recharging is bullshit IMO.

Hey, were not talking about Sony. They're the ones with the long track record in that arena.

I'm sure that you can use a hub to charge all 4 controllers at the same time. This also works out great for BC since Xbox 1 controllers are really just re-wired USB devices anyway. A simple adapter (already available for PCs) and all your old Xbox accesories work on 360.

I can't believe people would have anything to complain about regarding the 360 coming with a standard wireless controller. Sure you may not be able to recharge four at once, but so what? No more tangled cords, no more people or pets waliking by and ripping the cord out of your console while in the middle of playing....

The only drawback would be if you had to constantly buy batteries, but it looks like thats not the case. MS is really going all out for the 360.

Hopefully the controllers will have auto-off functions. I've drained the batteries in my wavebirds more than once from just leaving them on. :lol
It does seem odd that MS would only add three ports but if it comes down to it, you could always use your PC to charge one of the controllers. :lol

Why not? Things have to be well done to be appreciated.
If the wireless controller lasted 2 hours on 4 9v batteries would you still be happy just because it was wireless?

Of course I would'nt. But I am quite positive that MS wouldn't be that stupid. And if anyone thinks MS is a stupid company, that just shows how stupid they are.

The charge should last 30+ hours. How long are your Halo sessions exactly?

Good to know!

I am excited to get a console that is practically wire free.

I should clarify that this is simply speculation on my part. I don't know what the number will be, but I'm 99% certain that if you charge your pads while you sleep, it will be enough to last an entire day. I don't see how anyone can complain.

the logitech wireless controllers rumble, and they last forever too. i don't think recharging is going to be a major issue.

Lets hope that wi-fi built-in pans out. If so MS is teh awesome.

I don't think 360 is Wi-Fi built-in... it's just Wi-Fi enabled.

2 USB ports on the back.
1 for the camera and 1 for the wireless (or wired) ethernet adapter... like the Series 2 TiVo's.

1 USB port on the front for a controller.

Before people start bitchin', you can usually get a USB wireless G adapter for FAR (free after rebate).

So what?

Whats the difference between people/pets ripping the cord out and the battery dying on the controller?

There is none.
