Xbox 360: Good, but not great

While grammatically incorrect, it's an absolute media standard to use "their" in cases as these
It's no such thing. The standard is, when possible, to pluralize the antecedent: "gamers raise their eyebrows." If that won't work, then you'd go with one of "his" or "her," as I assume Y2KevBug meant.

I'm really worried by all these negative mainstream articles. :( I really don't think X360 will do that well.
Even speaking as someone who is greatly unimpressed with the 360 so far, don't worry. This is just a rushed launch, nothing more. If a launch truly dictated a system's future, the DS would be DOA, which is obviously not the case.

The system will not fail, but press like this isn't helping, and I won't be surprised if sales slow to a crawl after launch, after the early adopters scoop it up.

popularity does not imply correct or standard grammar usage
standard means proper
the word you are looking for is common
here, it is a quantity mismatch
as you know, the media is full of inept people

My god, this grammatical error drives me crazy.

"It's certainly a sleek piece of equipment, with enough technological oomph to make even the most casual gamer raise their eyebrows."

Their is referring to "gamer," a singular. It should be his or her.

YOU FAIL!

Singular "their"

On subject, are comments like this even heard by casual gamers? I really don't think this will sway any potential buyers. The 360 is only going to get better anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

I have trouble seeing much fault with this article. I had a lady at work ask me about the new system and she had serious doubts based on the murky bc issues and I couldn't really think of a good reason to definitely be an early adopter for casual gamers. It's only the weakest of desirability keeping me in the game.

I remember quite clearly the media being all over the Xbox when it came out as a really cool and powerful system. It happened to Nintendo with the N64 when they were bringing out 3D Mario and 3D Zelda too. Looks like they're backing off a bit like they ended up doing with Nintendo post-1998. Halo 3 should be a big media event though.

Anyway, these Dreamcast comparisons are a bit silly. Sega Saturn. That's the one you mean to compare the 360 to.

Is it who I'm friends with at college... or do people of college age not give a shit about Xbox 360? There is just no popular buzz IMO about it. No Halo, no Super Smash Bros, no Mario 64, no Playstation brand behind it, no absolutely breathtaking leap in graphics like Dreamcast.

And let me add to the "Don't compare this with Dreamcast" sentiment. Soul Calibur completely destroyed every console game ever released before it.

What should worry Microsoft is that they won't have anything special this gen: not the most powerful console, not the only one to provide online gaming, not the cheapest one, no great exclusivity besides halo, less HD capabilities than the PS3, less originality than the Revolution. It will be a good console for sure, but with nothing special. Hard product to market once 3 consoles are released. Mainstream press has already noticed that, thus the bad reviews.
