Xbox 360 hack news from Team Xecuter

It is great to see such a huge community input into the openeing up of the 360. Two websites of note (one a returning old freind) are worth keeping bookmarked, they have some interesting discoveries and observations.
www.xboxhacker.net
www.free60.org
Of course for the latest news and updates you should be looking at www.xbox-scene.com but we shouldn't have to tell you that.

For a completely "hacked" 360 don't expect anything on the scale of the first Xbox - at least not for a long, long time, however you can expect to see a hack of some sort soon - not only from Xecuter(info) but from at least one other group of guys we have spoken to. Unsigned code is looking unlikely atm but booting of raw dumps maybe quite possible - but no where near as much fun or scope as Xbox1 mods. Kudos to M$ for their security on this one, however there is always a way.....

Jeez, how long was it till PS2/XBOX/DC where cracked after their launchs? Just a month after launch and there's modchips in the works, raw images looks like they're going to start being bootable soon. Not good news, not good news at all.. unless you're a pirate that is.

I think the most important part about the news is where they basically say modchips aren't possible and running unsigned code ain't gonna happen.

Where do they say that mod chips aren't possible? Seems like they are saying exactly the opposite ("expect something from us soon").

booting of raw dumps "MAY" be possible.

Sounds like more of a hope than something that's happening right now. Not to mention that they admit defeat on every other level. :lol

Pirates pwned. :)

So if I get it correct... say good bye to homebrew stuff but say hello to running dumps of those signed games like COD 2 and such?

WTF are Raw Dumps?

sounds nasty

They talk about running raw game dumps. This sounds like running a game from a DVD-R somehow.

They specifically say running unsigned code isn't possible. This means homebrew applications (XBMC, emulators, homebrew games) aren't going to work.

Basically you're gonna be able to play burnt games, but the mod chip wont allow you to do shit like you could with your xbox.

What happened to microsoft's every console is different claim?

Isn't that kinda the oposite of what you would want?

I refuse to believe that hackers will ever give up. Maybe it looks dire now, but they'll find a way.

How long did it look like PSP's 2.0 firmware was uncrackable? I know this is a hardware solution, but people are truly ingenious when they want to be.

so i was wondering, could this be the worst possible scenario for MS?

no to homebrew, but yes to piracy?

in other news, i saw that some group managed to release Hexic HD...

i guess all the tard pack users can play it now too...

It took like 6 months for Xbox to be hacked, and its security measures were inferior. The possibility of pirated games after a mere 8 weeks is not exactly a win.

isnt hexic a flash game?

So in other words, they are close to releasing a bare bones modchip.....when an X360 is installed with this chip, you won't be able to run homebrew games or any other fancy stuff, but you *will* be able to burn copies of games on blank DVDRs and they will run on this new chip....

Well, dual layer burners are ~$40 or so at newegg and meritline sells Ritek DL DVD+Rs for $50 for a spindle of 25 disks!!

Heh, if the hakorz can get a modchip to work, MS might meet their sales goals after all :D

They still can't run the games. They are only saying that there MAY be a POSSIBILITY of running ISO's. So, actually, Microsoft's security measures are still intact. Keep counting. :lol

If this was some nobody group, that would be one thing.....but this is Team Xecuter saying they will have a solution available soon (as well as another unamed group)......I wouldn't be so quick to write them off yet....

so yeah wheres xecuters psp's solution theyve been talking about for the past year

why do people keep saying "modchip" when they clearly avoided using that particular word?

yep, but the one on that demo disk wasnt the full version with XBL achievements etc, this one apparently is...

Im kind of glad and sad at the same time. Glad because it means less cheaters messing with files on the hard drive as seen online in Halo 2, and sad because we wont be able to get XBMC on the 360. For us Live players, I think the positives outweight the negatives on this issue.

Edit: Looking at that xboxhacker.net linked in the first post seems to show that its is reasonably easy to modify files on the 360s harddrive providing you have the time, atleast regarding getting Xbox saves onto your 360.

First my... hard wired modchip got disconnected making a hot swap to fix another xbox
The only neighbor that shared the bill of the internet service with me is going to move to another house
I miss the opportunity to get a 50% of disscount in a really cool bike
and now this....F*CK

There's only one spot in the whole paragraph where they could conceivably use the word "modchip", and they use the word "hack" instead.

What else could it be? Maybe something like the PS2 hacks....HDD-Loader type peripheral, boot disc + slot opener...

I'm certainly not into the modchip scene, but do they state WHY they believe that fully cracking the X360 and modding it won't be possible?

I find it hard to believe, that there's NO way it can be done.

Well, I'm pretty sure it's been discussed.

If I remember, all Xbox software runs on top of a hypervisor of some sort. If the hypervisor detects that something is amiss, the system pukes.

If the right security in on the die for the cpu or gpu, it's just not feasible to replace those with hack versions. Nothing's impossible, it's just could be totally impractical and way too costly.

Eh, microsoft will probably have a detection setup that will ban x360's from XBL. Of course modders will have a way to shut off the chips, but.. who knows what MS have done this time..

It's good to see that the "community" is dropping all pretense this time around and fully admitting that they're all just a bunch of thieves.

There was never any pretense to start with -- pretty much all mod chips are marketed explicitly for booting ISOs or DVD-R games. Xbox1 chips were not marketed as having that capability because they were not sold with that capability (you had to add a hacked BIOS after you installed).

Apparently this is all old news, and 1 chip vendor has already received test chips as of last Monday. They are expecting to start selling them in a couple weeks.

Xbox Scene forum admins are calling it fake -- I've seen nothing on their actual site about it. Their specs correlate with exactly what Team Xecuter have said is possible (no homebrew, ISO dumps only).

what "community"?

this is just some site trying to make money selling mods...

the people who actually do stuff like code homebrew only use copyright circumvention devices when their code won't run otherwise...

Seems like they just told us to expect a hack solution in the very near future....
