EvilAvatar's editor, bapenguin, chatted today over the phone with Dave Ried, Director of Marketing for XBox 360.

Here's the newspost, straight from EA.com site:

I got a chance to chat with Dave Ried, Director of Marketing for XBox 360. There was a press release floating around earlier today that a lot of news site didn't quite get right.

Basically the press release announced a few new titles for the XBox 360; Wolfenstein from id, Mass Effect from Bioware, Superman from EA as well as Splinter Cell 4 from UbiSoft. It also laid out Microsoft's Launch Window titles.
Their launch window include release day through the X-Mas Holiday season 2005. Right now there are 15-20 titles that will be available on Launch Day. While Dave wasn't specific on these titles
he did say that most titles are in the certification process right now, so it really depends on how things go there. He did mention that there would be a steady stream of titles from launch through the holiday season.

He confirmed that from Microsoft, we will be seeing Kameo: Elements of Power, Perfect Dark 0 and Project Gotham Racing 3 all in the 2005 launch window.

In 2006 we should see the following exclusive titles: Gears of War from Epic, Too Human from Silicon Knights, Crackdown from Realtime Worlds, and Mass Effect from Bioware.

FIFA: Road to the World Cup is going to be an XBox 360 Exclusive title as well.

Be on the lookout for the XBox 360 marketting campaign to really take off in the coming weeks as more magazine, outdoor and TV spots are launched.

This is such a load of crap. Can't publishers announce these dates?

I WANT OBLIVION ON DAY ONE!

Delay PD0 until it resembles a next gen game. As it is now, it looks like awful.

Who started this launch window shit... what manufacturer... Nintendo? Sony?!?!?! and WTF IS A ^%#^%)$#^) LAUNCH WINDOW????

Other than oblivion I don't think any game interest me at all in the 2005 launch window. Gears Of War is a rental, Too HUman? Could be awesome, they need more original titles, and I remember Xbox fans making fun of all the sony sequels. Microsoft has reached #4 and 5's even before sony.

where the fuck is the launch games?

this post gets a big "no shit" from me.

we already knew 15-20 games at launch, and we already knew abut what "launch window" means.

Yep.

So basically, none of them are launch titles.

Seems even MS doesn't know yet which games will make it.

But yeah, I'd like some friendly mod to remove the *OFFICIAL* part from thread's title.

This clears up nothing.

I don't want to have to open up my free copy of NFS because PGR3 and Oblivion aren't in stores at launch.

I have to say, i have always been supporting X360. to the point i've been called an xbot more than once, but this launch is sounding more and more like a catastrophe.
They are not ready

I feel for you. I really, really do.

it definitely seems like they are waiting to the last minute, probably cause that really is how close they are cutting it, but even still, it should be a good launch. most system launches are pretty barren

Given the high price of the system and games, does anyone else think 15-20 games at launch is just asking for a world of hurt for publishers? People will only buy 1 or 2 of the most hyped up games on launch day, and the rest will probably be ignored all through the holiday season.

"Launch window" is a platform owner term to "shit that is scheduled for launch but could slip a month if certification manager is having a bad day and won't waive stuff".

They really do not know at this point. Maybe the developer missed that part of SGR that says that button B must cancel and A confirm. Or maybe the game crashes when four USB devices are simultaneously inserted during live cooperative play.

I'm expecting and announcement on launch day titles towards the end of October.

Well I didn't... so what the hell is the launch window? 1 month after launch? 2? End of the year? Hell is there an uniform definition?

It means first 6 months IIRC since there was some list of 'launch window' games that had mid-2006 stuff listed.

I believe that the launch window term was around from the time the PS1 launched. The only reason it's more noticeable now is that with Xbox, it's launching in the US first so there's no six months worth of Japanese titles to be sure bets.

Microsoft sent a PR called 'Xbox 360 Launch Lineup announced'. But the PR doesn't say anything about launch titles. It only says that PD0, PGR 3 and Kameo will be available before Christmas. Are they ready for this launch ?
