Xbox 360 Preorder Chances

Yesterday I went to the local Gamestop and put down $50 for the non retard pack. I asked the clerk how many pre-orders do you have for the system already and he showed me two huge stacks of slips. :( Those were all taken before the split SKU scandal though.

What do you think my chances are getting one at launch? You guys who preordered for PSPs and other systems (that wasn't the super limited PS2), were you all able to pick your system up at launch day successfully?

I work so I can't wait in line in the morning and I would love to order it online but damn if I'm going to pay $700 for crap I don't want. I'm shocked that so many people were willing to pay $50 without so much as knowing how much it will cost. I guess I should've put down a preorder for PS3 while I was there. I'm sure they've got a big list for that already too. This sucks.

I think your chances are pretty good. My EB has upped their pre-order allotment 3 times in the last month and I'm sure it'll go higher the closer we get to launch. Just make sure that you have one pre-ordered and if they're not taking any more pre-orders then keep checking back because they'll be upping their allotment.

That's why you go AFTER WORK... seriously not all department stores are going to sell out of this thing. Unless you only have like 2 stores within 30 minutes of you, a bit of phone calling that afternoon before you leave work should net you a system... just call your local Wal-Marts, Targets, Best Buys', Circuit Cities, etc before you leave work... and if you live in the suburbs... there's gotta be like 4 million of those stores around you. ;)

I'd go to Wal-Mart but there's no 24 hour store near me. Besides, I'm not thrilled about the idea of waiting for hours at a super center.
 
Or you could just pick one up when you have some time. No one is going to die if you don't get an Xbox 360 on launch dude. :D

Well, just go there at 7 or 8 am.

I bet you can stroll in and out in 5 minutes with your new tree sitty.

I learned my lesson with the Dreamcast. Not going to a gamestore for the launch of a system. I can go to a department store and be done in like 10 minutes. Also, unless MS ships 400K at launch I wouldn't be too worried of a sell out. This isn't going to be the PS2 launch.

Guess I'll try. Hopefully MS gets enough units come launch. Just wish I could preorder the damn thing online and forget about it. F-ing forced bundles.
 
Join those of us in N.O.W.B. (Never Preorder Without Bribes)... there will be a way to get your hands on any gaming commodity you seek come launch day, if you are resourceful enough.

That being said, Wal-Mart works.

I have a preorder at the local EB but i'd cancel that bitch in a minute if I could pre-order at in-store prices online and have it Fed Exd to me in the morning.
 
A Wal-Mart midnighter is definitely my plan. I hate waiting at Wal-Mart as well but it's not as bad if you have friends accompany you. I know three or four of mine plan on being there too so s'good.
 
I'm on the "second shipment" at my local Gamestop. They said that if it's like the Xbox launch, the first and second shipment both arrive on launch date.

Same here. My local Gamestop in upstate New Jersey told me I'm on the second or *maybe* third shipment, but that's the worst case scenario as their latest information is old, and claims they'll only get 10 units per shipment. They're expecting updated shipment info shortly, post-SKU split.
 
Seems like as good a place as any to ask this question. Anyone know if there will be xbox tradein deals towards xbox 360 or am I better off selling it now?
 
MS is gonna launch with no less than a million units in the US. Yes, it's the holidays and it'll be tough to find as the weeks pass, but go day one and you shouldn't have a problem.
 
uhh my local EB had 60% of their pre-orders cancelled cause 499.99CAD for the non retard pack is too expensive. I say this is going to be just like the PSP launch, wealthy areas will sell out while low income areas will have a big supply.

Good question. Didn't they say they were going to drop the XBOX1 price with the 360 launch. If they go 99.99 near the 360 launch a "deal" I doubt a deal will be any better than trading in now for at the "149.99" price point.

i mean, gamestore clerks arent really the most accurate of sources and also, they can be fanboys who exagerrate. 60%? did you see these numbers? just askin.
 
I got mine locked up for the launch date, and I am getting the retard pack... It doesnt pay not to. Why would I spend $299 on the system, and then buy the HDD seperately for $100, which equals the price of the $399 bundle, and then I am getting a wireless controller, component cables, remote, and enet cable....

My EB guy said they are getting 70 premium systems on launch day and only 5 core systems. So I am good.
 
Try Gamerush; I went there yesterday, and they had just started filling preorders, first shipment. There's no bundle either; either the 299, or 399 one. You do have to put 100 down, which is 50 more than the other places though.
 
If microsoft ships as many systems as they say it won't be hard to pick one up. I was so scared that there wouldn't be any psp's on launch day, walked into Best Buy and they had about 100 sitting there at the end of the day still....

What does that have to do with where you pick up the system? I W-O-R-K too, and I managed to pick up a PSP on launch day at a store not named EB or Gamestop. No pre-order, either.

Well if by retard pack you mean the $700 one, then NO, because that is ONLINE ONLY!!! but people dont seem to listen to that, and they keep bitching that they have to spend this enourmous amount of money...

those dumb ass bundles are ONLINE ONLY so I am just getting the $399 premium pack.

That's not the retard pack. The retard pack is the $299 "core" system.

Exactly. Haven't bought a launch system from a game store in forever. I usually have no problem strolling into Best Buy or Circuit City during my lunch break to pick it up. If they're out, I've just gone to a dept. store like yourself. Don't have to bother with bundle bullshit that way, either. :)
 
Here in France it's the same problem, MS France annouce only 80.000 units for launch period. Here, lot of shop are even stop pre-order. Xbox 360 will be sold-out before launch.

I found an EB with a few first shipment non-retard pack preorder slots left. It's right across from San Jose State on San Carlos (408-289-8601).
 
Anyone know if Xbox360 will support VGA out for monitors this time and have an official cable for it? Or will I have to go with the VGA box again. There's a strong need for outputting to computer monitors so console manufacturers should start supporting it already, damn it. =P

Gamerush kinda pissed me off. I've amassed about 300 in credit there, and went in one day to ask if they started taking preorders, or had a call list to get on. They said no to both, and then overnight I found out they were going to take preorders the next day. I literally went up there within 15 minutes of the store opening, and they said they were "pre-ordered" out.
 
I really strongly reccomend not comparing PSP preorders to xbox 360, seeing how my store has already tripled out PSP preorders with XBOX360 ones and theres still 2-3 months to go :lol

And when will the 24 hour wal-marts be selling it? If they start selling right at midnight, I'll be there (assuming I don't win one).
 
If I decide to pick one up I'll swing by the local Best Buy or whatnot. I don't think it will be that bad unless MS ships low numbers to try and alter perception.

It seems unlikely as the whole point for them launching early is to get as many systems in homes as possible. So, unless they have some kind of manufacturing issue it only makes sense for MS to crank as many out as possible.

I'm also pretty shocked that the site admins and mods seem to condone it.
 
I went to my local EB the other day to pick up Moto GP 3. Back in June I had asked if they had an pre-orders left and he told me no, he said they received only 10 units at first. So I asked again the other day and he said they were given 22 more units for pre-order and that I could get one on day #1 if I put the $50 down. That was music to my ears, I put the $50 down and now I'm guaranteed a non retard pack on day one.

So don't give up on gamestores just yet, but if you can't find a pre-order the only choice is Walmart. I came two hours early for the original Xbox and sat in line at the back of the store with everyone else for the midnight launch. They had 70+ units and only 50 people were getting one. I think the tree sitty will be more popular though.
