I've seen some confusion about private chat and how it works, so i thought i would post a small "guide" to it..

Using private chat you can chat with other xbox live members at any point - over games, dvds, the dashboard, and even while going between them.

You could liken private chats to instant messages. They happen between exactly 2 people. You can have up to 4 private chats going at the same time, but you can only be chatting with one person at a time. To go back to the instant message analogy, you can have 4 IM windows open at the same time, but you can only be typing in & reading one of them.
