I've had my 360 since Saturday morning and I've been playing it A LOT (see: copious). However, while playing PDZ last night, I started hearing some clicking noises from the drive and the loads were horrendously loud. Out of curiousity I turned it to the horizontal position and it stopped the clicking and quieted down a tad.

I was worried that my disc had been making contact with the lens or something, so I took it out but there weren't any scratches on the disc (praise be).

To the others with 360s, could you compare the noise between the vertical and horizontal positions? I want to make sure it's a normal thing and not a defect.

How about the sticker covering the drive tray... That damn thing was tedious as hell to pull off - plus it left a lot of adhesive residue shit all over it.

I didn't notice it and it came off when I opened up the tray for the first time. I used the remote, so I didn't see the darn little thing.

Mine wouldn't even open without taking it off. At first I didn't see the sticker...so I thought my 360 was broken.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I've heard a couple people say that the console seems to get much hotter when it's horizontal.

Yeah, I noticed that too. It's because you are blocking off all of the vents that are on that side of the system.

From the pictures of the interior of the 360, the DVD drive lays on top of the GPU heatsink. It's possible on high spin-ups the vibrations rattle the heatsink against the DVD drive. It may be more prevelant vertically because the vibrations don't have to fight the weight of the drive. Well, that's my guess at least.
