Xbox 360 release date revealed

Valiant effort by MS, though I'm not sure why they're bothering going below 39,800Y; kinda screams 'Please, please buy me, I'll do anything! I can be cool! I'm so cheeeeeeeeap!!'.

Too bad it'll still fail, especially if that game list is the best they can muster for Japan's biggest gaming show. Oh, and the fact that almost half the games won't be out til next year... or will also be on the PS3... or are completely unappealing to Japanese gamers =/

It has been like that since the first DOA4 pics

So you all have a little over 2 months to save up 4 pay cheques, perhaps 5 for some of you. I'll say this, I'd like one but I still think it's pointless to play one without a 720P capable 32 inch widescreen television.

I'd say the date being a week or 2 later then some folks expected has a few reasons- Perhaps the previous week is the deadline to have 1 million systems manufactured and the following tuesday most if not all of those should be in stores. I predict half a million for europe to last until year end and 200,000 for japan with an additional 100,000 showing up every week stateside.

As for the price difference? I think the only folks getting seriously raped here are europeans I haven't checked the exchange rate lately but it was definetly favourable to north america. As for Japan, well honestly for how poorly the original xbox preformed over there it's amazing they are even trying at all, Aren't lifetime sales less then half a million systems ? One way to fix this is to launch this new hardware at a cheaper price , especially when sony will likely throw the PS3 out the door a little later then they first announced and it'll cost 39,999 yen or more. Sure you can look at it in the "aw we got fucked for supporting the first one so well" but that's hardly the case.

Is it just me or are those boxes damn thick?? There's also no sign of retard packs.

well the core packs don't exist for japan, and considering those are asian workers i would assume the units are for the region.

I don't think I'd like the idea of my "brand new" 360 having been sitting on a warehouse shelf for the past 3+ months... It's prolly just some PR teasing though.

um, that's how all console launches are. They need to ensure they have a lot of units first day, it's not like they could do a million in a week.

Possible, but I thought all three manufacturing and assembly plants were in Asia as well.

Yeah, because it would make a ton of sense for Microsoft to show an image of the assembly of the core package at a Japanese press conference when the Japanese market is not getting the core package.

Riiiiiight... So MS just shipped out final kits a couple weeks back, yet is near simultaneously ready to start full scale production on the final consumer systems as of right now?

I'm pretty sure this is a PR thing; I mean really, it won't take them 3 months to make a measly 250,000 units.

my math put the original xbox plant in mexico doing average 8500 units a day. Actually if there's apparently 3 plants in china starting about 1-2 weeks ago they should have roughly 2 million units out there by early december [based on xbox's numbers] and about 2.5 million by the end of the year.

Eh? You do know that when you buy something "new" it's only new as in not used and not new as in age right? :p It's not like they're made to order.

He likes his consoles piping hot, right off of the sweatshops fingers.

Out of town on the 22nd means that IF I actually decide the thing is worth my preorder, I won't be picking it up until after Thanksgiving. Launching the week of Thanksgiving is idiotic.

But it's better than Black Friday. Not much, but better.

You'd better make sure the store is gonig to hold the system so long.

if he prepaid the entire amount just before he left town wouldnt they have to hold it for however long it took? thats what I would do and tell them that I would be outta town and to please hold it.

They will hold it. I was talking to the manager when the rumor came up that MS would launch Thanksgiving week, and he told me that if that happened, I could pick it up when I got back from the holiday.

He agreed with me that it would be stupid to launch then, because many would be in the same situation. Way too close to the holiday, for those of us with a life.

Why are you surprised the box is big? It does come with a bit more than most consoles. Headset, remote, ethernet cable, hard drive (which I'm guessing won't be attached when you open it up). Not too much more, but I think it explains the box being a little bigger.

The console is big, and the box that it comes in is big.

Should I que the "SHOCK AND AWE!" pic, or does anyone else want the honors?
