Xbox 360 VGA Woes

Az987

all good things
Ok, after reading the thread about how great the xbox 360's VGA cables were I placed an order for them about a week ago and got them in the mail 2 days ago.

Well I hooked them up, they look significantly worse then the component cables do. What gives ? Shouldnt it look at least as good ? My TV is a Samsung LNR-328w, could the cables be bad or even worse my TV's PC connection be fucked ? I noticed that my TV doesnt offer any options to change the picture on PC except for contrast and brightness.

I figured I'd see what you guys thought before I tryed to take them back to Wal-Mart. Thanks

What's the problem? Is it the picture size? Weird borders around the image? And are you using Project Gotham 3 to test it with?

You didn't read the entire thread then. It's known on every forum that the VGA cable washes out the colors. Much sharper then component but washed out colors ruin it.

Ensure you set your dashboard to 1366x768 resolution, which appears to be that set's native res. Experiment with them if that doesn't work. My Philips has a 1280 native, but for some reason on VGA, wants 1080 x 768. You have loads of otions but your set SHOULD look exactly as good as it does with component, if not better.

And check the manual.

Maybe he didn't set the resolution to 1366x768, which is the native resolution for his LCD TV. Or he doesn't like the fact that VGA kit produces much brighter colors than the component. Who knows?

Resolution is set to 1366x768 which is the native resolution. The picture quality is much darker colored, not as bright as component and colors look darker, not as vivid.

Then it's your TV. They all behave differently. I would choose one of the boosty auto-settings - Movie/Game/etc. And jack everything up. On LCDs that usually makes whites way too bright.

Contrast is jacked way up in the VGA screen.

Since your TV lets you adjust that in PC mode, just take it waaaay down and compare the two.

Here are my 2 guesses as to why it doesn't look good on your TV through VGA:

1. The cable was intended to look its best through the VGA port of a PC monitor, NOT through the VGA port of a TV.

2. The VGA input on your TV isn't calibrated. Just because your component input is calibrated, doesn't mean the VGA input is. It may be totally seperate.

Edit: I turned the contrast and brightness down to about 50 but I still think the component looks better although it is an improvment from before, Thanks.

My Component isnt calibrated either though ..

Turn off DNIe in your component pics and try the comparasin again. With every Sammy set comparo, DNIe is the wild card. Too many Sammy owners are getting use to the over sharp/contrast look that DNIe gives them.

Yeah, to me the picture looked a little crisper, and like someone else said you could see a few things you couldn't before, but I couldn't find a setting that didn't give it that washed out look. So I went back to the component.
