Xbox 360 to feature wireless 360 to 360 connectivity
Posted by Travis A. Brown | Date: August 08, 2005 | Time: 12:01 AM EST

As the all Xbox media site, TeamXbox, recently reported Microsoft's upcoming Xbox 360 console will feature connectivity with a wide range devices. This includes everything from Apple's immensely popular iPod music player, to Sony's sleek Playstation Portable. Something that has been overlooked by some since the console was revealed to the world during the MTV presentation back in May was how the Xbox 360 would interact with other Xbox 360's.

The original black behemoth included a feature called system link that gave users that ability to link up a maximum of four Xboxes together for LAN parties. This feature was praised by players of the popular Xbox first person shooter "Halo: Combat Evolved", a favorite among players that participate in LAN parties.

New information has surfaced from a Spanish presentation for the Xbox 360 held not too long ago by Microsoft that reveals the Xbox 360 will connect wirelessly to other 360 consoles. Although to do this you will most likely have to purchase a wireless adapter. We expect more information on this to be released by Microsoft as the unconfirmed November launch date for the console approaches.

Ridge Racer 6 via System-Link is going to be even better than LIVE play, because there should be little or no LAG!

You'll need to have the USB Wifi adapter though.

Wait. To use wireless networking you have to buy the wireless adapter? Shocking. :P

Cool feature, gonna make LAN games much easier to setup.

unless I'm mistaken, it should be a default feature of the wifi adapter. That's the point. I'd imagine the PS3 and Revolution should be able to do this, as well.

going to the store and buying a wifi adapter is easier than just using the ethernet cables already lying around?

which reminds me... the only thing worse than not having wifi built in... is not having ethernet built in...

Must be a slow news week in the land of X-Box 360.

And yet, for some reason, Sony and Nintendo are royally spanking Microsoft in this department, with PlayStation 3 and Revolution both having Wi-Fi as a standard, built-in feature while X-Box 360 only has it as an add-on that's sold separately. Microsoft loves to talk the talk about "everything is wireless" with this system, but they're evidently taking the cheap route here.

Nintendo is spanking? they dont even have an ethernet jack! wtf?!?

So will Rev/PS3 have the ability to do this out of the box since they have WiFi built-in?

This is actually cool, it will be sweet playing multiplayer games on the next-gen systems with friends in different rooms. And you won't have to move TVs around. :)

True. I suspect the wireless got tossed to optional the same day the HD got added.

Not everyone uses wireless. Keep the system affordable. You want the feature then pay for it. If they include it (and other non mandatory gaming features) then you pay for it. If they don't include it and you want it, then you pay for it. I don't see the problem.

yea, wireless sux. its not like id move the xbox36o around a lot anyway (unless you're one of those LAN party freaks)
