Excellent. I can't wait for the chance to drive out into the middle of the desert, pay for my logging, drive home, and tell my friends I spent more than 24 hours at the epicenter of the gaming universe!

Maybe this is old news, but that's definately down the from the 64 I kept hearing about several months ago. Still a good number, tho.

And where the fuck am I going to lodge in the middle of the desert?!?~

Yeah, it's definitely old news.

It WAS 52 players, but then they switched it down to 32. To get it for launch. Although I hear there will be a patch to fix that down the line.

yep, certainly looking like a cult

I'm confused by the "first come first served" wording here... how does this work?

In order to win credentials and attend this exclusive event, gamers must visit http://www.microsoft.com/xbox/zerohour.htm on November 10 to see a list of participating registration sites for a chance to win free tickets for themselves and a friend.

Tickets are limited and distributed on a first come, first served basis. Hopeful attendees should check participating sites frequently since sign-up forms will be posted at unspecified times throughout the day. After registration ends, the 3,000 lucky winners will join VIPs from the U.S. “Hex 168” and European “Origen” campaigns to be the first gamers in the world to fully experience all that Xbox 360 has to offer.

This contest is idiotic. How are they going to guarantee that the place will actually have people there. TONS will enter, win tix and never show up of course.

Big Empty Hanger Hour is more like it.

Figures, I kinda tuned out of PD0 news for a while. I get motion sick and all that up and down just got to me. :P

:lol :lol Yeah.....That'll be fun, once you get there. I'm curious how many people show up and where they'll be staying (and how they're paying for it)

I'd love some other contests to copy the fine print of this one.

"Win a free tip to Hawaii!*"

*Airfare, gound transport and lodging not included

If the picutre floating around of the building the event is going to be held in is correct, then I know exactly where it's being held...hell I lived 15 minutes away from that hangar...maybe on the 19th I'll go home for Thanksgiving...

This is a cool contest, and I'm sure if it weren't an XBox 360 event it would be seen that way!

what, were there just too many people at the events in NY/LA in 2001?

The "invite only" events you mean?

Shit, you know, I take it back. If J Allard and Peter Moore are there and talking to the guests, I'm going to try my damnedest to get a ticket. :p

If you go to the event you can be one of the few who can say "I bought my 360 in the desert, where'd you buy yours?"

I don't favor large, lame press events like this.

On the other hand, I like the desert and if no one showed up it would be nice to play games and eat catered food for a day or so. I assume there might be booze as well. Yea, beats work.

At least they can do is give you a free 360. This contest is terrible. I have to pay for airfare and lodging just to get an opportunity to buy a 360 from Best Buy. WTF???

Maybe if I lived in New Mexico.

The contest to win tickets + a 360 + lodging, airfare and all that was the Hex168 photo contest. That one is over though. I would enter this but I can't get off of work on the 21st so its sort of pointless.

Edit: So there should be at least 360 people there... plus Peter Moore and J Allard (?) so say 362.

November 21st is my birthday. Novermber 22nd is my good friend Jake's (who worked on Space Channel 5 and Rez at UI) birthday. We wanted to do something special for 360 launch and this is it. We're both in LA.

Godammit. I wanna go to this. Anyone got a hook up for tickets?

Why is everyone bashing this. If this guarantees you a 360 and you close to the area, why wouldn't you go unless you a fanboy of other systems?

Don't blame Microsoft. They didn't make the universe, just identified where the center was. Blame God for locating it in the middle of the desert. Be glad it's not underwater.

It's just that not everyone lives close to that desert. You're not gonna travel for 10 hours to get a 360, are you? It's kind of stupid to make this THE BIG LAUNCHEVENT and then not even giving away some free 360's. I know, that's still quite expensive but if you give one 360 away every 10 minutes, then 3000 for free in 24 hours shouldn't be that hard.

But they aren't trying to get everyone there, they just want 3000. I'm sure there are alot people out there who would rather go than spend tons of money on ebay for a system or wait in long lines in the cold. Why give them away when there are plenty who will pay for them?

Yep, old news. And the number is still expected to be raised after the game is released. Patches? Microtransactions?! wtf?!

Because now you create 3000 people who enter the competition just because they see it, they win a ticket, and then see they have to provide the transport and will get nothing more than the chance to play the 360 a day earlier. I'm quite sure at least 50% does this, which means at least 1500 empty places. Great for the other people, not so great for Microsoft when the place is half empty and press takes pictures.

Don't think anyone will care or even notice the difference between 1500 and 3000 people.

Wait, will the Best Buy in the middle of the desert have enough systems to sell to everyone in attendance? So there's a chance you could drive forever to the middle of nowhere for the big launch event and not be able to buy one? =/
