Xbox controller issues on Windows 11?

I also get random disconnects when I'm on another room (wall in the middle).

Having line of sight from the dongle to the controller helps a lot.

On a side note if you type joy.cpl into the search there is a hidden controller calibration program. I do mine every few weeks and it defo makes a difference

I didn't like how BT would drop my Series controller in the middle of a game on Windows 11, so I got the official dongle. The newer, smaller version. It still dropped.

The old 360 dongle has never failed once in my life, I'm still using it.

I have the new version (used with X1 controller first) but it dropped signal maybe 2, 3 times over several years?

This was an issue I had when I was on PC gaming and it drove me crazy. Even got a brand new controller and adapter and it still happened but less frequently. Like once a month. Was one of the major reasons I said fuck no to PC gaming.

The 360 controller\adapter worked perfectly.

It dropped twice in the first month I had it and I almost never used it after that. But, it all came from wanting to make controllers on my laptop smoother, which I was too aloof about leaving on its stock install of 11. Seems to be a bigger deal on 11 than 10, according to this thread. So actually, I might give the dongle another chance on 10, lol

I think these are useful for multiplayer games because you can connect multiple controllers through the one dongle and it just works without all the Windows BT menu fiddling. It's the LAST time you want it to drop, so I have a low tolerance for failure here.

The sad answer is that when I want rock solid reliability I use the Xbox 360 wireless adapter...

used for decades, never had a single connection drop
still using it

Slight relation here:

Is controller support in The Outer Worlds 2 on PC just completely broken? It recognizes the controller, and it changes the icons in the game, but the controller inputs just do not work. At all. Issue not present in other games.

Version played: TOW2 in the Gamepass PC app.

I can confirm have had this issue, but usually its due to wireless interference. Just needed to unplug the dongle, uninstall it via device manager and then re-insert to allow it to auto set up. And all was back to normal. In fairness, It happens to me purely because i have so many wireless devices and dongles etc. Also has only happen once since owning the dongle from launch. Connectivity issues can happen with ANY device. Could also just switch to using Bluetooth. Its awesome that the Series X controllers can be switched protocols... And its awesome how you can quick switch from your gaming pc to xbox series at a press of the button.
