Experienced games executive to lead Xbox 360 post-launch efforts in Japan.

TOKYO, Feb. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Microsoft today announced the promotion of Mr. Takashi Sensui to the position of general manager of the Xbox Division for Microsoft Co. Ltd. (Microsoft Japan). He succeeds Mr. Yoshihiro Maruyama, who has been appointed to a strategic position within Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division.

"Mr. Maruyama played a key role in launching Xbox 360(TM) in Japan, and he secured vital partner relationships that are crucial to the long-term success of the business in the region. Having achieved this, Mr. Maruyama will transition to a new role where his unique vision and foresight will be applied in a strategic capacity within the Entertainment and Devices organization," said Peter Moore, corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. "Now as we look ahead at the post-launch timeframe for Xbox 360, Mr. Sensui will lead the business forward in Japan to build momentum at a time when key Japanese- developed games for Xbox 360 will soon be available."

"We acknowledge that achieving success in Japan will not come easily or quickly for Xbox®," Mr. Sensui said. "But we are confident that because Xbox 360 is the most powerful video game and entertainment system, delivering the best content for Japanese gamers, enabled by the online capability of Xbox Live®, we will earn more of their business moving forward. I am excited and honored to take on this role."

Mr. Sensui has more than two decades of IT and entertainment industry experience. Before taking his current position, he was director of the marketing department and game content group in Microsoft's Xbox Division in Japan. In this role, Mr. Sensui worked closely with Mr. Maruyama to secure the widespread support of every major third-party publisher in Japan for the Xbox 360 platform.

Mr. Sensui joined Microsoft in 2002 as director of marketing for Xbox in Japan. Before coming to Microsoft, Mr. Sensui was managing director of Internet Capital Group K.K., a subsidiary of the U.S. equity investment company Internet Capital Group Inc. Until 2000, he served as vice president of Marketing and Alliances at SAP Japan Co. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of the German enterprise application software company SAP AG.

nope, around e3 Kikizo published a 30 minute interview with him. He left for the exact reason chappelle left dave chappelle show. Too many people wanted to get involved

I know, I saw the interview. It was conducted at least a year after he left. There was a very different version of events around the time of his departure that isn't publicly known but certainly made the rounds. After more than a decade with the company, I'm sure he had many reasons for leaving. There usually are.

His comments on Rare sounded pretty genuine in the interview to me. However it's no secret that this was his deal, and some explaining would have been needed at some stage. At least, according to his comments in the interview, he believed in the investment and continued to. I guess it could fairly be argued that Rare is a legit reason for his departure overall.

Maruyama - "Fired"
Allard - "Fired"

Two more and we can get a killer barbershop quartet going. They can show up at E3, GDC, TGS, etc. and sing those old-time hits about Mr. Gates' Fantabulous All-Purpose Cures What Ails Ya' Antiseptic Anesthetic XBox 360!

It's got moxy!

Wasn't Allard's new job also in "Entertainment and devices"? OMG, they're both gonna work on the Xboy!!11!

I wonder what Sakaguchi's gonna say now? :lol

Nice, Takashi's decent.

As for Miz, the Gooch, and Okamoto you can thank the MS Japan studio head, highly respected and all-round awesome dude Ray Nakazato (ex-Capcom).

I'm sorry but they havent changed anything?

"Okay, here are your choices, guys. You can join the Blinx 3 Team, the Sudeki 2 team, or the Xbox Japan team."

"So...no one wants Japan? Very well, we'll just flip some of those guys over there around. They won't notice."

Actually, I think I'm going to put myself up for "repositioning" to Xbox Japan.

My management philosophy will be to post on GAF at the end of the day and tally up the votes when I get into work the next morning.

Well Allard was promoted to a wider role, overseeing all entertainment devices, not just xbox.
Maruyama probably got a new position where they think he'll be better at...

Former Xbox JP marketing director? This looks like replacing one clueless guy with another.

How was he clueless?

MS Japan Xbox guy: Hey Square, here is 20 billion dollars. We buy you.

Square guy: Fuck off, freak.

MS Japan Xbox guy: :(

I'm pretty sure he tried his best.

Guess you missed all the threads where people following Xbox situation in Japan would laugh at the nonsense he was telling in interviews.

Nice example:

Maruyama: Most likely when Resident Evil 5 is published in Japan the 360 version will be hi-def quality with next-gen graphics. But PlayStation 2 will be just ordinary graphics. So until PlayStation 3 comes we have an exclusive window to the hi-def gaming experience for the consumer.

GI: Resident Evil 5 is coming to the PS3 and...

Maruyama: PS3? Maybe the PS3 version will come, I hope, later than ours.
:lol

Oh and I don't think 'Fuck off freak' was what Square answered last time MS approached them.

instead of firing a perfectly capable man, they should redesign the console for the Japanese market and call it the ekkusu-bokusu. Japanese women love foreign clothing, and pay incredible amounts for a pair of levis jeans. But on the other hand, no matter how eloquently you can speak Japanese, if you're not actually Japanese, they will always view you as a foreigner. Redesign it. Rebrand it. For them.
