Xbox Live 360 features

First feature: You know how Halo 2 has XML feeds of your stats, and how you can put them into certain XML readers? That idea wasn't just for Halo 2--it was more of a test of the XML/RSS feeds. Within the next year every game from Activision, EA, Microsoft, pretty much everybody will put stats into a unified RSS feed for each person's gamertag. These feeds will be read on Xbox 360, MSN Messenger, a RSS program, Windows Vista, or online at certain game sites (perhaps XE).

Second feature: MSN Messenger will be in 360--that is right, the 360 will have MSN Messenger, maybe not out of the box but it will have it. Rumor has it also Microsoft is working to get AOL to make a version of AIM for Xbox 360. So not only can you be playing games on 360, you can also talk to your buddies online in between sessions.

Third Feature: How will you type back to people on Messengers though? That part is easy--specially made Xbox 360 Keyboards and Mouse. The Keyboard and mouse will come in two flavors--wireless or USB. The Wireless ones will use the 360's special signals, and you basically would have to buy the combo, which should cost abou $50 total. the wired one may need a special keyboard, or you might be able to use your own keyboard and mouse.

Fourth Feature: Downloadable music service. MS is working on creating downloadable music service, and the service may actually prevent people from putting pirated MP3s on the system but it is unclear how they would do that.

not to sound like a troll, but none of these features excite me. except maybe the AIM thing

$50 keyboard and mouse....we can use PC kb/mouse, right?

Wait wait wait -

So I was at EA and guess what? I found out about features MS ISN'T telling anyone about just yet. Just for the sake of not getting in trouble with them I'm not posting this on the front page but I will here.

This sounds ass to me.

This article confirms about half of the stuff he said.

First feature is confirmed: Stats for all games will be posted online
There will also be high-score and other ranked leaderboards for every title on Xbox 360 - the statistics have been designed to be displayed on web, so it's easier for publishers to display them on their own site with nifty syndication methods. Here, the speaker pointed out that developers can now call the write function as often as you want for writing scores/info to the network, but the actual write takes place at the end of the session - apparently this had been a possible issue with Xbox Live titles in the past.

AIM on Xbox 360 sounds a little far fetched, but who knows.

Third feature is semi-confirmed: USB keyboards will work with X360
When ending the talk, Vrignaud also took a couple of questions from the audience on esoteric topics, revealing that, though the Xbox 360 has a virtual keyboard, it does also support USB keyboards.

You can plug in a keyboard but this is for text input only - including in massively-multiplayer games. You can't use it to play games and that was a design choice.
What would a mouse be for though? The keyboard will be restricted to only typing, not for gameplay.

Fourth feature seems likely because Robbie Bach has recently been placed in charge of Microsoft's online music program. I can't see them not offering music downloads to Xbox 360.

Ugh. Microsoft promised that two years ago, for the original Xbox Live. And we're still waiting for it.

You sir, are a tool.

This info was compiled from an intimate briefing in London yesterday. About 10 publications were invited from all over Europe. If it's old, it'll be a day old tops. We also have images and a short clip of the Minter visualiser.

Get your facts straight and stop needlessly trolling.

Everything in that post has been known for ages. Whether you just found out about it is another thing.

And I've seen Minter's vids since E3.

***** telling anyone to get their facts str8 is priceless.

You knew all this for ages? Wow! You must have some kind of magic news feed because as far as the rest of the world is concerned, a lot of this hadn't been officially confirmed until yesterday. Nor shown in detail off the actual running hardware.

Shown in detail or confirmed is not news. Its just news to you.

I'll give you the VISA card info though - good job!

Now this is cool..

Default, game independent 'gamer profiles' on Xbox 360 will include some extremely broad, optional settings which all games will check, including difficulty levels, Y-axis inversion setting, preferred car transmission type (automatic or manual), and a handful of other extremely common game settings. There is then a requirement that game, on its first boot, checks those optional settings, so if the player always uses FPSes with inverted controls, he will never have to reset it in individual game cases.

- Quick voice chat with Xbox Live friends will be available at any time on Xbox 360, even if the player is currently using another game. The game will simply pause and the voice conversation will be carried out - the game automatically mutes any other in-game voice.

Xbox360 is going to make alot of our gaming lives easier. They've thought of everything, totally feature packed.

It is if it's confirmed as 'actually true'. People have been speculating shit for ages.

A lot of the info has been discussed before, but not as concrete fact from M$' own mouth, hence the relevance of it as news.

That isn't new either. The only thing new to me in that article is that Microsoft is planning a first-party dance peripheral. Everything else was old, and not just a little old either.

Great. It'll probably suck compared to my LevelSix pad that I can't use because of their goddamn fucking lockout.

I don't care if they sell it for $30, they need to make an official adapter that converts existing Xbox1 controllers to the encrypted interface of 360. They can make a good profit off the adapters.
