Yeah, fuck this shit.
So basically, if microsoft turns off the servers when Xbox Two is out, then this entire generation of games is wiped out permanently?
What if MS has an issue like Sony had with the PS3 where the Playstation Network was down for, what, a few weeks?
Everyone loses their games?
It hasn't. You can't even begin to compare this to steam or iOS. There are plenty of posts in this thread and others which prove this comparison is a bad idea. Those services offer benefits to consumers along with little cost, this is benefits for the publisher, not consumer. Hell just look at the 24 hour check in, neither iOS, Steam, or Google do anything like that. It's not a good comparison at all.
I'm on board for the Xbox One boycott. I don't care if only ten of us ever end up boycotting, I'm going to be a part of it.
My guess is that Sony is going to leave this up to the publishers who will implement the same system.
Won't they just include the court-approved, anti consumer clause that bars that very measure? So Microsoft seems to be throwing First-Sale doctrine to the wind. I'm sure someone is going to take them to court over this. I see a Class-Action coming soon.

EAT SHIT dude.
Isn't MS painting a huge target in their backs here?
Won't XbOne become the target du jour for hackers?
i've stuck to my guns and can honestly say that when EA bought out the NFL license and took away NFL2k from me that i didn't buy a single madden game since. I think i'ma have to do the same with this
Haha, I Loled.Hard-hitting Polygon question.
So it sounds like a can sell games to my friends if I want.
Also, I don't need to lug games to my friends' houses.
Makes some things easier, while cutting back the used game market. Obviously, internet-dependent as well.
Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.
We all know how boycotts like these end.
Microsoft's generosity.
I posted the new on Facebook and 3 people replied negatively. 2 confirmed they won't be buying the system because of this.I really don't think people outside of message boards care. Not minimizing anyone's opinion, but I just don't think most care. I think people love gaming so much, they will just adjust. They will find a way to make sure they connect to the internet, they will find a way to jump through the hoops to play used games, to share games with friends, etc. That is their choice, just like it is anyone else's choice not to do those things.
Which ever side of the topic you are on, I think we can all agree this will be a generation like no other before it in terms of technology and in terms of policies.

As someone who has a reliable Internet connection and doesn't purchase used games/borrow games, nothing announced here is really troublesome for me. Having said that, I can totally see why someone would refuse to buy this system. If you have shoddy internet, or heavily rely on used games, then it absolutely makes zero sense to buy this system. I personally lack the moral conviction to protest a console for reasons that don't personally effect me. It's definitely a selfish position, but In a choice between ideals and personal gaming, the latter is going to win every time. Having said that, I think some of these decisions by Microsoft are extremely stupid and definitely going to have a tangible effect on the momentum of their brand.
As much as I enjoy Internet outrage I find it rarely translates to lost sales. Modern Warfare 2 - no dedicated servers, etc.
People will probably still snap this thing up.
Everyone who plans to boycott, sign it, and then we can see how many of them end up posting Forza 5 impressions come November.

You keep saying this, but it contradicts their statements about not needed internet, how can you verify ownership without it? The disc? Ya, that's what we have now.
This is not a useful attitude.
Wait, what? lmaoooooo
@XboxSupport Loaning or renting games wont be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners

If all else fails, I hope the industry crashes, and hard. If so much of this is because of big greedy publishers, I hope the smaller firms and Indies inherit the earth and rebuild.
SOMEONE OPEN A BOYCOTT THREAD, NOW !

I just found it amusing how you are so enamored with Microsoft that you were somehow able to put a positive spin on this nonsense.
Physical games aren't digital games.Have to agree here. People already can't sell, lend, trade apps on their phones and tablets. To them this won't be very different. Xbox One will probably do pretty good sales wise.
people should post this on their Facebook + Twitter...

Ya'll realize that even though you can register up to 10 family members to your XBL account, only one family member may play in addition to the account holder at the same time, right?

The key word is "one".
