XBOX SF:AC - what button layout do you use for Controller S?

As per title.. I haven't been able to find anything remotely comfortable so far, it's really difficult to go into combos with the triggers so I started using the white/black buttons, but not much luck so far. Here's what I am currently using:

X: LP
A: MP
W: HP

Y: LK
B: MK
B: HK

Is there a more comfortable layout? I'm playing Makoto mostly..

I wonder if the ole SNES layout would be good (probably not though since the triggers on the Controller S are analog):

X: HP
Y: LP
A:HK
B:MK
L trigger:MP
R trigger:LK

This was my tried and true layout for all the SNES Street Fighter's.

I use the YXLBAR (snes terms) layout, though i will also use the black/white buttons for the HP/HKs since it is fairly easy and you have better button press accuracy. *wants snes style triggers again ;( *

I just switched fierce punch and roundhouse kick and use the triggers SNES style (punch left, kick right). It isn't perfect but it's the best I can do. I only use the face buttons for quick combos where you need to hit the button twice quickly.

And about a tournament, I'm all for it, but the LIVE setup really doesn't work well for that kind of thing. It'd be unfair for us S-Controller types but whatever.

I was still competitive against ASM using an “s type controller”, maybe we could load the draw so S-Types play together on one side and Sticks on the other.

Yeah I think it would be best. Using the S is okay for some characters. But try to do Ken's mp -> fp -> dragon punch with the trigger, Ibuki's wp -> mp -> mp -> c.fk -> s.fk quickly. It's really really hard. I can't for those pads for the game come out (which were delayed again till early May). Using the S is fine to have fun with but I don't think I can improve with quicker characters like Yun and Ibuki with it.

Was that you the other night? DTM, ok I get it.

I've played a mere handful of people ever at 3rd Strike, and I've never claimed to be very skilled at it.

And if you wanna call opening every single fight with a hurricane kick, and then following with another, or moving all the way across the screen with Dudley's medium kick or whatever, competitive...

Also, learn to block low, you left the low medium kick door wide open the whole time, even on wakeups.

Oh well. I don't consider myself competitvely skilled at 3S either. We'll play again and hope for a better connection. Some of those rounds were slideshows.

And if anybody was wondering (crickets) I'm not using the SF:AC stick anymore. I'm on a smaller Sanwa mod now.

Rejected his own mod creation! At least I think that was yours.

Putting the mediums on the L and R buttons are really all you need to do; the fact button layout really doesn't matter after that. :) I use X and Y for the punches and A and B for the kicks, but I when I play SF AC, I prefer using a PS2 adaptor and a six-button pad, or an arcade stick (Arcade Stick Monk's FABORITE...the SF Anniversary Joystick..UNMODDED ;) ) instead.

BTW ASM, did you not see the ridiculous post by Leguna in his "Tekken 5 Final Judgment" thread that pads are much better than arcade sticks? You should give him a nice lengthy owning. :lol

I know my socks stole some of the thunder from that thread, but come on...
I didn't mean it in a "you STOLE IT!" kind of way. I just meant I didn't entirely remember if he made it up or if he got it from another site. It's been a while. Good to know he's come up with something better. Does his new creation have Live Mic support though?

BTW, those pads for SF:AC coming out for XBox... do they have Mic support? Dear god do they!?

I didn't really "create" anything, I just did a good mod.
1mb worth of pics here

I saw a lonely Namco arcade stick (really a Hori) that GamePnoy had in the "Post Pics of Your Gaming Setup" thread and he sold it to me. I did a lot of cutting to put a Sanwa JLF stick in there, or at least most of it. The resulting Hori\Sanwa hybrid joystick feels so fucking good to me. It is hands down the best stick I've yet used, or at least my favorite.

This stick is wired up for external encoders, or gamepad PCBs stuffed into project boxes, so it's as universal as I want it to be. I've done boxes for Playstation, Dreamcast, Genesis, Saturn, and one out of a Pelican Real Arcade that does in fact lend me Live support.

BTW, the same day I did most of this Namco mod, I also put a Sanwa JLF in the Tekken 5 stick. This isn't news in and of itself, since Armadillo from SRK did the mod on the way home from the store the day it was released, and he did a guide for it.

I've got all the pics for another fully illustrated tutorial for the T5 stick, and I show how to mod it two ways. One way with NO solder and NO dremel. 'Course, I can't really brag about this because I've been sitting on this info for a solid month like a shithead.

The guide will be up on my site by Monday, I fucking swear. (crickets)

Are there flawed versions of SFAC out?

My friend's copy can't assign anything to the trigger buttons.

Black and White are also the trigger buttons when you're assigning them.

Ugh. So f-ing retarded. Would it have been that much harder to program L/R as seperate buttons?

My PS2 broke so I haven't been able to test out my SFAC arcade stick.

Yeah that was me, i got a headset now (was on Live trail), my old man is going to Hong Kong in a few days so I’m getting him to pick me up a stick or two coz there hard to get in Australia.

I am Itching to pour more time into the game but Halo 2 on live owns me, (expect the British kids that keep having a cry).
