XBOX360 kicking ass again

I love the fact that the worst console for this upcoming generation (whatever that turns out to be) is going to look assloads better than current mega consoles like XB1 and PS2.....

We are all in for a treat no matter which box we buy.... It's a good time to be a gamer.

seems to me what he said about BC was pretty much on the money. He said MS was trying to do it, but that they weren't likely to do it. The limited BC the 360 has sure seems like a logical development of that conversation...

Wasn't it given as 0% chance of happening, then someone else disagreed and said 100% happening?

Yeah, Peter Moore called me Monday morning to apologize. :)

I was chatting with the Bioware docs at the Sony conference and they said that it was really a last minute decision to announce this. Microsoft was literally unsure about B/C (meaning it was unconfirmed but in the works) until shortly before E3.

Bioware docs got anything to announce or show this E3 beyond pc stuff? I don't care about platform

X360 better be impressing considering they're launching in Fall of this year. Good stuff.

Sad to hear about PD0 though, MS should just delay it and give the PD fans a sequel the series deserves. But yeah, lots of impressive stuff for X360...at least graphically, don't care about most of the multi-plat stuff. But GoW is undeniably awesome looking, might get X360 just for that game if it delivers as promised.

be careful with that kind of reasonable talk you could get banned

How is Perfect Dark Zero rocking again?

I saw it behind closed doors today and umm... well, it looked better than the screens, but still really really underwhelming.

Damn you and your truth. :D

MS PR: Did you say your name is Che?

*Looks down the list:

Chespace: Do not show him the latest build. 1up.com bad publicity over earlier world exclusive screenshots. Show him the 'meh'. *

MS PR: Right this way Chespace. :)

That's what I said in another thread. No more situations like me wishing I could see what PS2 exclusive games would look like from the ground up on Xbox. Both consoles are going to be mega powerful, and it's going to be amazing to see what devs can do on them. Next gen is going to be about amazing engines, but it's going to come down to what devs can do with them.

Ches gotta take alot of hits just for posting those "leaked from a disgruntled Nintendo employee" PD0 screens... and CHAMPIONING them as exclusive. LOL. The B/C was icing on the cake.

Gotta build up your 360 rep asap

Hey kid, put me on ignore if I'm so full of shit. <shrug>

Who got banned for saying they were looking forward to all three consoles?

Hey don't give me too much credit. I'm a Sony whore. :) Mostly because I can't afford (or have time to play) all the games I want for one console, let alone all three. So I try to choose just one and stick with it. Sony, to date, seems to have the most games I like to play, so I am (proudly) their whore..

:lol

so its not Gears of War quality? I think DOuglas got a new HD tv out of his IGN story.

honestly Che usually has more positive takes on xbox games than most reviewers. I completely trust his reviews.

He gave us the heads up on many games before they came out and was right about every one of them IMO.

didn't say that... don't get all touchy.

in NOV we'll know where PD0 stands... not today, next week or next month.

maybe the next PD0 screens you (& 1up) post will be worthwhile... that is what i'm saying.

GashPrex said:
so what did gamespot get for saying it was stunning?

Probably nothing.

Okay, supposing.. just supposing, Che is right. Could it be that other people who saw it were expecting crap and whatever they were shown was impressive in relation to earlier PD0 screenshots and footage.

But still that IGN quote stands out. I mean as good as Gears of War? That's mind blowing. :lol
We need pics and footage to be sure.

Yea we can do it like this...

[Artie Lang from Howard Stern]
Waaaaaaaaaa, my console only looks 15 times better than XB1, VS that guys console which looks 18 times better! Waaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!

And here's what I'm saying:

PDZ looks nothing like Gears of War. It looks better than the screenshots we ran, but I'm puzzled at Doug's hyperbole. I'm not saying the game will suck. I certainly hope it doesn't. But right now, it looks like it needs a lot of work.

Another thing I've been hearing over and over again from developers is that they're all stuck with alpha kits with single-core CPUs and old ATI graphics cards. This was echoed again and again, from 99 Nights to Kameo, everybody said not to judge what we're seeing due to these underpowered alpha kits.

Crap. I feel sort of bad after seeing the Kameo vids, COD2, etc. Also reading more in depth about the features....

I guess it was sort of easy to get hyped about CG films. Now that I'm seeing gameplay. Heh.

Here is where I get confused on the matter. They are runnning on underpowered hardware and developers say to not judge the game. But final kits don't hit till a July. That gives them like 3 months to harness all the 360 power. How do you make such a jump in a short time?

lot of late nights, and hopefully good planning.

A lot of the stuff can be excluded in programming. They are obviously developing with the specs in mind, but they won't show you that because it probably runs at a very low fps. So they won't have just 3 months to harness the power. Most likely it'll be 3 months to tweak it and optimize for it.

I don't care if it doesn't come near Gears of War, as long as it looks better than those baboon-ass screenshots you guys have.

It's probably because Doug has smaller expecations, while Chespace didn't. Not to assume anything, well actually I am...

I mean, it has nothing to do with personal agendas and fanboyism/attachment to something just like every other human being as. I mean, NOTHING LIKE THAT. BTW, this applies to "journalists" who give good remarks AND bad remarks to games.

Simplest answer: You can't.

M$ did not announce a release date for the system eventhough most ppl think it will be released in a few months?

Honestly not announcing a solid street date is a tell tale sign that xbox 360 is not coming out nearly as soon as we expect. That might give developers the time they need.

If you're going to watch PD0 after seeing GoW, I don't see how you could have 'smaller' expectations. He compares PD0 to GoW, so it'd have to be damned amazing, and Che is saying it isn't. I don't know about you, but I'd take Che's word over anyone at IGNXBOX.

we all hear you about GoW.

(hypothetical question) why did 1up leave that "old ATI" info out when posting those PD0 screenshots last week? That was just rediculous. (OK - will stop beating a dead horse).

EVERY next-gen game needs work - except Killzone perhaps - MS said July for the new kits so these guys will be limited for a while longer. :)

Remember Halo 1 at E3 2001 was a complete joke

http://www.gamecritics.com/feature/report/e3expo2001_ben/page06.php

1. Halo (Xbox)
By far the biggest joke of the show for me was Bungie's long-awaited Xbox title, Halo. Basically, it's another first-person shooter—nothing more, nothing less. Halo lead designer, John Howard, did a presentation on the game and failed to say anything to convince the audience otherwise. During his walkthrough of Halo's first level, he couldn't stop talking about different ways to "kick ass." Is that all Bungie could come up with after three years of development—finding new ways to kick ass? Howard's presentation was further marred when he praised the game's graphics. Not only did Halo's frame rate grind to a halt when the action got heavy, but Howard had the gall to point out how amazing the lens flare looked when you stare at the game's sun. Wow, lens flare—we haven't seen that before in games have we?

I thought maybe my opinion of Halo would change upon actually playing the game, which I did when took part in a four-on-four round of "capture the flag." However, playing the game only reinforced my negative reaction to this really ordinary experience. Not only is the control scheme awkward, but the split-screen mode looks like a Nintendo 64 game. The frame rate routinely froze during the action, and it sputtered along the rest of the time. I also wondered how the split-screen mode would look on a normal TV. The high-definition, wide-screen set-up used at E3 left a lot of room to divide the screen four ways, but how many gamers out there own a wide-screen TV? A normal TV display will squeeze the partitioned screen layout into the typical, condensed split-screen we've seen in other console first-person shooters. Kick ass? I just don't see it.

The only difference between Halo and other first-person shooters lies in the graphics design and plot. The hype surrounding this game is totally unfounded. Halo left no more of an impression on me than the other boring first-person shooters showcased at E3, like Red Faction and Tribes 2.

Ok.. I guess that's one interpretation. Seems a bit more matter of fact to me, but potato, potatoe, tomato, tomatoe. It's all in the interpretation. Certainly nothing like the IGN preview.

One of the first game's we saw when E3 opened its doors this morning was Rare's Perfect Dark Zero for the Xbox 360. We weren't allowed to get our hands on the game, but after being given some tidbits of information about the single-player game (including the fact that Zero is a prequel rather than a sequel to the original N64 game, set some three years earlier), we were treated to a lengthy demonstration of some of the multiplayer features you can look forward to.

...

We got to see two of Perfect Dark Zero's six multiplayer levels this morning, one set in a desert and one in a subway. Both of the maps looked pretty stunning and were far too big for the measly two players that were showing us the game.

...

The build of Perfect Dark Zero that we were looking at was eight weeks old and running on alpha development kits that, we were told, have only a fraction of the power that will be available on the Xbox 360. The game still looked really great, although the frame rate was a bit choppy at times. In the final game, Rare is shooting for a solid 30 frames per second, whether you're playing solo or with three other players on the same screen.

But, honestly, I'm glad the Xbox fans are back. It was like a strange bizarro world for a few days.

Haha, funny. I didn't pay much attention to Xbox at E3 2001. I was pissed about Halo leaving the PC arena so I didn't give Xbox a glance. Then I played Halo a week after the Xbox launch and picked one up the next day. :lol So weak.

I trust Chespace's opinion and hope launch games are more than ready for launch. I can't wait for the 360!

i'm not a programmer, but i'd assume they already have upgraded art assets ready. just not put into the current versions. when it's time, they could just be interchanged. modular programming, so to speak.

I wouldnt say its kicking ass. I still see no system sellers. Kameo looks like the 360's answer to Oddworld. EA ports look like a quick cash-in.
bleh.

So maybe PD0 looks better but I still need to see a video.

Good point.

In that case I thank Chespace for his honesty.

I do hope the game comes together well for Xbox 360 supporters.

And I'm sure it well, the general consensus I've been hearing is that most of everything "next-gen" is either choppy or in general not up to snuff.

Chespace, would you mind detailing in what ways were you "meh" about?

Gameplay, visuals? Scope of the game, goals the devs want to achieve etc.

I'm assuming it's that its choppy and looks like an upper-end Xbox 1 game, that hit it pretty much on the nail?
