The main boy is hideous, why doesn't he have a nose. Looking like some korean browser mmo trash.

I'm just glad they are doing original series and not X sequel. Hopefully it's an actual linear story not interrupted by stupid sidequests and that idiot Tatsu.

My first thought upon noticing it was a Monolith game and probably something in the Xenoblade universe was... WOW the faces actually look good now, haha. So, it's already a big jump forward for me.

I notice some people are not happy about it... but at least acknowledge that the faces were a huge complaint against Xenoblade Chronicles X for a ton of players. It might now look a bit more "standard anime generic" but it's STILL better than what we had, IMO.

Easily one of my most anticipated Switch games.

I figured I might as well check back on Takahashi's past comments on what would end up being Xenoblade 2.

-June 2015
GamesBeat: With Zelda moving into next year, it seems like Xenoblade Chronicles X is a tentpole release for the Wii U this holiday. Does that add any more pressure for you?

Takahashi: To be honest, I don’t feel much pressure in this situation. Maybe it’s just one of my idiosyncrasies, but as soon as I’ve finished a development project, all I can think about is the next one.

GamesBeat: Are you already working on your next game?

Takahashi: Yes, that’s always the case, every time.

-July 2015
“Being several years behind others in the development of an HD title and taking into account Monolith Soft’s company size, there are just some thing that we could not achieve, which couldn’t be helped, but in order to move on towards the next step, there was no avoiding this. And that is the truth,” writes Takahashi.

Takahashi concludes by saying that he’d like to use the experience him and Monolith Soft have obtained in the development of Xenoblade Chronicles X in order to make his next title something that is rich in story.

-December 2015
After two big releases and the New Nintendo 3DS remake, Xenoblade has become a major Nintendo franchise. Where would you like to take the series next, and are there already plans to move it forward?

While Xenoblade Chronicles was a true story-driven JRPG, we took a rather different approach with Xenoblade Chronicles X. You could say it doesn't really feel like a typical JRPG: what really sets it apart from other JRPGs is that the game world - the planet Mira - is really vast. I've heard that some Japanese users who played Xenoblade Chronicles X said they enjoyed a more story-driven type of game. So if we have the opportunity to make another game in the series, I'd like to made another typical JRPG-style game like Xenoblade Chronicles again.

-December 2015
“I tend to get bored with things pretty easily, so I’d like to keep creating things with different approaches every time,” says Takahashi. “Along those lines, I’d definitely like my next project to look and feel pretty different from this one. The ‘Xeno’ name, by the way, really just exists to make it clear that these are Tetsuya Takahashi productions.”

The character design backlash is people being mad for the sake of it.

We are no longer in an era where you can exploit low geometry to release stuff like Xenosaga III (which was a fine compromise), so at that point either you go full realistic (and it often looks embarrassing in Jrpg without the dollars) or aim for generic cartoon style. I mean, they couldn't do it right 1.5 out of two times on decade old hardware, so.

That's a whole load of bull.

They're about as anime as you can get, yet they still looked distinctively unique and not coming off as generic. Don't blame it on budget, blame it on the designer.

Translation thanks to Gessenkou from GameFAQs. He's also a member here, but I don't remember his full name... Something like "caaaaaaaw"?

Rex
YsWXyNA.png

Rex is the main protagonist of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. He goes on a journey to find "Elysium". He also wishes to protect Homura.

Homura

Homura is a/the Blade and is therefore immortal. She has the ability to recover from injuries quickly unless the "core" on her chest is destroyed or her "Driver" dies.

I think I'm going to go on a blackout as soon as more information rolls in. I don't know if I have the willpower to do it, but I'll try. :O

The art style is such a jarring change.

We're going from a style taking some anime influences.

To a ugly generic anime style.

Not giving the title to a random person. They wouldn't be able to thst these games are from the same series.

Or... you could pick a different screenshot...

Yep, I'd say that's the same franchise.

I mean, its not like other majorly popular franchises go through dramatic art style shifts either.

I'm more than okay with what I've seen. "Anime" style is not inherently good nor bad, and I'd even go so far as to say it's not a "style" at all, when anime in general runs the gamut from hyper-cartoony to painstakingly realistic.

And, lest we forget... I adore Xenoblade Chronicles as my favorite game, but its armor designs were, shall we say... unique....

It's so far beyond a breaking point for me that character style and design is almost a non-factor given just how amazing the rest of the game was.

Are you people for real? After the abominations that were the character designs in both XBC and XBCX?

These at the very least don't make my skin crawl. Yeah the costumes look kinda stupid, but the faces at the very least don't look like someone vomited on a flat plane (XBC) or some creepy real-doll that sucks the soul out of anyone staring into their dead eyes (XBCX)

And yeah, compared to XBCs dreadful costume design even Mc Stripper pants looks considerably better.

Wait Homura is the sword???

This is anime as all fuck.

Welcome to Xenoblade.

Multiple characters in the original turned out to be living incarnations of the original Monado sword(s) capable of reshaping the world and breaking the bonds of destiny.

What are you talking about? Nobody was actually the Monado. At most all they did was hold the soul of their creator or some nonsense like that. Shulk wasn't the Monado III.

Edit:
I guess Alvis is. Your picture threw me off
.

Yea I caught that. Him using a picture of Fioria threw me off.

Yeah, sorry. I used that one as just a general sign of the "anime"-ness of Xenblade in general. I should have used the one that actually matched it.

But you still had all the other character wackiness going on. Lol. Xenoblade 1 was "anime" as all hell and I loved it.

Yea but your sword wasn't a waifu.

The game is anime as fuck and this is a good thing, but I don't want to ride shitty lions, I want giant robots... Then it will be the ultimate anime JRPG.

Shulk in pink armor... ugh. The armor in that game baffled me. I hope it's better in Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

I honestly like that particular armor for Shulk. The others are... eh. Anyway, the best thing was a swimsuit having way higher stats than ultra-heavy-looking armors like the one Reyn is wearing.

Heck, for all the "Tales of" complains, I'd say even Tales of look better than that. Even Atelier does, when you look at stuff like the Dusk trilogy.

Can't say I agree; the recent Tales games have looked absolutely dreadful.

I'd honestly describe this as modern Tales if it had something resembling an actual budget and an appealing color scheme.

Yeah, this game is definitely in the hands of Nintendo of Europe. The trailer already has a definitive PEGI rating but not an ESRB one.

Plus, Adam Howden's tease.

Plus, the font type used for the subtitles in the trailer is the exact same font type Nintendo of Europe used for the subtitles in Xenoblade.

I am so happy about this!

Wonder what the chances are that Xenoblade 2 would tie into X?

I know that X was meant to be separate but given the sales of X and from what some people have been saying on my Twitter feed, doesn't seem like we'll get another sequel to that game (which is EXTREMELY disappointing, for me).

There's so much of Mira that they need to clarify. I hope they at least expand on it if they plan to do a port, by adding even more DLC or something.

I've learned to grow on the character models for Xenoblade 2 but I definitely would like to see more. Curious how that mount comes into play, what combat will be like, what party members will be like and definitely what other armor styles will be like. (I think that's why I didn't really like the new models was more because of the actual armor styles portrayed on the main character).

You are confused. It'd be nice if NOE did the English cast, yes, but the trailer does not hint at that.

PEGI allows publishers to put provisional ratings up. The ESRB does not and publishers use RP (rating pending) exclusively.

Yeah, agree regarding X. I hope we get a Megaman/Megaman X kind of thing with 2 series within the same IP coexisting. Let Xenoblade be the traditional story driven jrpg while let Xenoblade X be a more non traditional experimental style jrpg. While X's main story was disappointing the lore and world building was great and has a lot of potential for future growth. Plus I love the more sci-fi setting and weird alien and mecha atmosphere. Hopefully we get more info regarding the future of Xenoblade as a whole at E3.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the info.

Still, the fact that the font type used for the subtitles in the trailer is the exact same font Nintendo of Europe used for the subtitles in Xenoblade must mean something. Perhaps this game really is in the hands of NoE.

As much as I liked Xenoblade Chronicles X, I really wished for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 after beating X. More story driven game is what I always look for in RPGs, and Xenoblade (Wii) offered such an amazing experience, and a direct sequel to it is something thats going to blow me away for sure. Xenoblade was one of the best RPGs ever.

Which... is fine but really, they can't just forget about X and leave it the way it is. That'd be insane. They need to provide some sort of closure.

I think that odds are very good that X is connected to Xenoblade 1 and 2 somehow. There are simply too many teases of possible connections in X to ignore.

Now, if we make the major presumption that 2 and X take place somewhere in the same universe, just seperated by a massive time gap, we might still encounter some of the more mysterious things referenced in X. Perhaps the Vita might appear in some form, or the Ovah. Odds are also extremely high that one or more Telethia will appear, continuing their track record in the series.

Oh wow. I did not catch that....

It'd only make sense, this is a true sequel in the same world apparently, and it's not Neo Los Angeles like X was.

Now granted, I think NOE outsources more now, whereas I think they did stuff in-house back then.
